The next set of FIFA rankings are released this week.
I think i read somewhere that one of those ranking predictors have us moving up half a dozen or so places based on the Jordan friendly. Today's result will give us a small bump also and nudge Bahrain the other way.

It may be more like 70 plays 90 in Wellington.

I was just about to start a topic for this..got an email from fifa earlier saying 16th it will be updated.

should be interesting to see how far we move. I don't think Bahrain will move as they have only drawn. and have not lost anything.

Nice rise of 17 places... should move up further when we qualify?

I would think we would probably move another 15 if we qualify.

funny that we are now higher than South Africa and DPR Korea.

I'd have to say up to atleast 60 after the win. Several factors including beating a higher team, drawing with a higher team away and qualifying for the WC finals will all help. Am I right that WC qualifiers and games count more than other games?

Its no longer a problem.

COMPARISON OF BASIC CALCULATION CRITERIA

 Revised World Ranking
Existing world ranking Matches  All international "A" matches  All international "A" matches Result: Win-Draw-Defeat  3 points -1 points 0 points  Complex points allocation Importance of match  1 (friendly match) to 4 (FIFA World Cup)  1 (friendly match) to 2 (FIFA World Cup) Strength of opponent  Position in world ranking (no. 1 = 2.00, no. 30 = 1.70, no. 118 = 0.82 etc.)
Formula: [200 - Position] / 100  Complex calculation based on difference in strength of teams Regional strength  Based on results in last three FIFA World Cups (wins per confederation per match)  Complex calculation based on all inter-continental matches played in the previous 12 months Period  Last four years, gradual decline in importance of results: 100%- 50% - 30% - 20%  Last 8 years with linear importance of results Number of matches considered per year  Average points gained from all matches in last 12 months (minimum: 5 matches)  Complex calculation (average between best 7 matches and all matches) Number of goals  --  Points value from the difference between goals for and goals against Home and away matches  --  3-point bonus for away team

Its no longer a problem.

well i think we just earned 886.125 points for that win - but no idea how that then translates into ranking movements - you would need to know our average points earned in recent years and apply the sliding scale to work that out.Marius Lacatus2009-11-17 15:28:47

Well I'm not even going to contemplate trying to work it out with all those factors.

South Africa have been playing a lot of friendly games since being knocked out of ACN qualifying. Just that they have not been playing very well. I think they have only won 1 out their last 9 games since the confed cup, the other 8 I think may have been losses but can't remember off the top of my head. Though, those games were against teams like Chile, Germany, Serbia, Norway etc. though should have done better against Iceland.

Parreira is back coaching Bafana after the bad run saw the demise of Santana. They played and drew 0-0 with Japan in P.E. over the weekend and have a game against Jamaica this week. I just dont think they have the talent in crucial positions to make an impact and too many of their players are playing in the local league when I think they should be testing themselves in tougher leagues overseas.

Aussie moving up steadily, up 3 to 21st

When you look at the table, there are a lot of really good teams in there ahead of us who are not going to the cup
