Just done some trawling of the Net:
Some interesting facts on Reid:
1. Regular starter in this and the previous season for FC Midtjylland in the Danish "SAS Ligaen" (i.e their top league): This season: 18 games so far. Last season: 25 games.
2. Ranked the fourth best player in the league at the end of last season (and the 10th best so far this season- but his side are having an absolute crap season, lying 10th in the 12 team league).
3.Gives up the most free kicks of anyone on his team: 29 so far this season. Suggests he's a tough, no-nonsense player and involved a lot.
4. Is valued at 1.25 million Euros transfer value by transfermarket.com
5.Italian Serie A sides Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Palermo are currently interested in him. See Tribal Football.com
6.Here is an example of the level of interest in our Winnie Reid from Italian clubs, this news item from Serie A side Catania's supporters' site last June when their CEO was chasing his signature:
"Object of Desire of Monaco [their CEO] Revealed"
This story quotes the Danish FA's Director of Football Stein Lein Claus as saying that Reid "looking ahead can become stronger than Simon Kjaer." Apparently in Denmark that's like saying a young player could become better than Ronaldo in Portugal. Kjaer is the hot young talent over there, is Reid's Denmark U-21 team-mate, and already plays for Palermo in Serie A.
See (the translation from Italian is muddled but still understandable):
7.There could be extra bite in the All Whites- Serbia friendly on the eve of the World Cup considering, as the above article reveals, Reid was subjected to racist taunting by Serbian louts during the Serbia- Denmark U-21 international last year. This sort of Neanderthal (and that's being unfair to Neanderthals) behaviour makes you glad to be a Kiwi really... In photos Reid looks really, really Maori- much more so than e.g. Wynton Rufer or Vaughan Coveney.
8. Reid is giving up quite a lot to play for us and the Danes will be disappointed, especially considering Denmark are hosting the next European U-21 Finals and Reid is eligible for that. (He's played 10 times for Denmark's U-21s).
