For those with Sky I just saw that the special guest on ESPN Soccernet Press Pass tonight is our very own Ricki Herbert.

Channel 34 at 7pm.

Yeah, Derek Rae gave Rory his star turn of the week last night and said RIci was on tonight.

And that bald French twat had Anelka in there... Ridiculous! I like Derek Rae. Should be a good show. It'll be great if Tommy Smyth isn't on there.

Nah, the ex-Chelsea lad. Hahaha, such soft words could not do Tommy Smyth justice!

Frank 'The Beef' LeBouef or whatever his name is

Yeah, that's the one. Anelka did nothing against Ireland- excepting obviously his deflected goal. But nothing else!  But anyway, hopefully Ricki will come across well. It'll be cool for him!

I'd love to see Tommy Smyth's face if Ricki drops an 'F bomb' on Press Pass.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It's 9pm, Malky got it slightly wrong. It's 7pm in Australia, 9pm here.

yeah its at 9pm.

we got about 5 minutes last night, they came back after a break and shwoed ricki's post match interview, then had a laugh about it. Derek gave us a good plug and covered the game, including rave mentions for paston and fallon. Tommy Smyth then said that he was a big fan of Ricki and his style of attacking play and admired how we took to bahrain.
They then made the mistake of asking Frank LeBouef who said that he was happy for us, but that we would get trashed at the world cup, and that every team would want to draw us in their pool.
Seeing as Derek Rae is the only person on that show who actually knows what he is on about, it was very positive coverage of us

You may not like it, but that's 100% true.

As to whether we'll get thrashed, that depends on the draw. A good draw, and we could surprise a few people, a bad draw....el grapadura2009-11-16 18:48:11

Hmm, NZ draws Spain, Portugal and Germany.... Worst goal difference in a pool ever???

I don't care who we get though... i'm just happy to be there... although England, Aussie and the sh*ttiest other Europe team would be nice. Nick a draw and a win and go crazy!!!!!!

El Grap, loving your recently developed optimism! That's the story. With our full squad, could be more than a niggle for 2nd and 3rd tier sides at the cup.

in response to el grap here's a cut and paste from another post

... Paston wants England and Aussie and Ricki wants England

and The Admiral wants a weak group we can make an impression on

I'm with Ryan on this - if we can pick up a few points we will have had an influence on the World Cup -that, to me, is worth more than a game vs someone we admire/know/hold a grudge against

with football being a difficult game to predict I would not be surprised if we pick up a point of the third seeded group member, and I won't die of shock if we get two draws (not likely perhaps - but possible)

a win would have me seeking a psychiatrist

three draws and I'd by a lotto ticket

9pm NZT

don't know where you get the 7pm time unless you're in Aussie

also Tommy is an Irish not French

but i think we are moving el grap along, if slowly.

he had almost no faith in our ability to beat the 5th placed asian side 6 months ago. But we do love him and i think in some ways he just likes to beat down his own expectations.

btw, i dont want to draw anybody for the sake of saying we played them. f off Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy. It would be pretty legendary to play England but other than that I just want the easiest draw possible. I want us to nick something at this world cup.

Exactly, I want Honduras, Slovenia*, and South Africa.

They are all very good squads but they are probably the weakest (bar us) of what I can think of off the top of my head.

*Assuming they topple Russia.

Gah, everybody thinks I mean Tommy Smyth when I say the French bald twat- that's NOT who I meant. I know he's Irish.

Anyway. Ricki was pretty well-behaved tonight.

On that day we would all be outside the ceremony demanding a big screen, waiting for him to come outside so we can carry him  around town, chanting the whole way.

There will be churches built in his name just like Maradona who!!!!

what a beautiful sight it would be.

Couldn't help but crack up with Ricki's F-bombs.. but who really cared.. when was the last time you saw Graeme Henry show any emotion about his team winning a match

Man you really could not get a bigger disparity between Rikci's interview after the game, and then that interview then.

The drunken haze I've been in for the last few days has opened up a whole new world for me. Hope it stays with me.

And I'm with you on the draw. Let's get teams we can nick something off.

Agreed. The pure emotion was like one of us was speaking! That's how much it meant to them! But that one last was night was a little bit more...composed!

Bring on anybody! If we get teams we can steal points from then great. But equally, if we get Spain, Russia and whoever else then that's a great experience for the players!

Yeah...Ricki looked like he had just taken some horse tranquileser....totaly sedated...

As for the draw...love to get SA...we could take them. Worse would be someone like Germany. They would be totally relentless. Lots of European sides get two goals up and then cruise a bit. The Krauts would just keep on steam rolling. The really good African sides could tear you up too. Drogba, Essien and co....there are some bloody good players coming out of Africa.
