What do you guys and gals make of him.  I'm a big fan but am starting to question his allegencies to NZ, he reminds me very much of Rufer who never appeared to do NZ its dues for helping him out.

Ok, Nelsen has pulled out due to birth but shurely he should be available for the second game, me thinks we won't see him not play for Blackburn.

Maybe its time to put his "money where his mouth is" and come out with his real stance over his future playing for NZ.

If it wasn't the pending birth it would have been something else I am sure.

"the baby is due any day now" means he won't be available for the second match either. Understandably if you wife has just given brith one day, you can't fly over the other side of the world the next.

I would be interested to know when the baby actually arrives..If it is born in December I will be well pissed off with him. LOL

Also funny that Ricki mentioned 3 days ago that he had heard no reason for Killen and Nelsen not coming back. You think Nelsen might have mentioned his wife is 8months and 25 days pregnant!

If we build it, they will come...

Of course you can't argue with legitimate reasons, but it'll be very disappointing if he doesn't play sometime soon.

We all know it's a big trip to get back home to play against teams we should beat without him but, like the Beckham factor, having him there would be a great drawcard. Football seems to be getting such great support back home and him being there would help to keep it in the spotlight. Go on, do the fans a favour....

Everytime its a another reason from Ryan! Granted, this one is acceptable, BUT he might as well stop trying to lie about his intentions and just say NO MORE to his AW career. It at least gives Ricki a chance to focus on the squad without having to worry about whether Mr "Too good to represent his country" is coming or not.

I would much rather he focus on his Blackburn career than bother with AW games.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

they are not mutually exclusive though FM, players throughout the Prem'ship will be playing for their countries this weekend.

if ryan's wife is due, that is a perfectly reasonable excuse, but it may now we dont see him at all during this qualification phase - which is bloomin disappointing

Would you fly 48 hours in Economy Class to play two matches on the other side of the world in less than a week?
As much as we all like to think patriotism is the motivator of all decisions the reality is Ryan jeopardises his actual playing opportunities and long term career if he were to travel back to NZ.

The reality is he earns +$7.5 million a year for playing for Blackburn. If he doesn't get to a World Cup it will put him in the company of other great players such as Best & Giggs.

As for Rufer - he flew back on a number of occasions at his own expense. Was promised he would be re-imbursed and never was.

The problem (and it is not really a problem -it's just a fact)with our game, is the players don't actually aspire to be All Whites they aspire to being professionals and invariably European based.

So while we are all patriotic the players on the pitch don't always carry the same motivation.

If he's earning $144,230 a week as your numbers suggest I think he can probably afford to pay, by himself, for an upgrade to business.    Just a little thank you to the country that raised him.

I was reading an article about 82 last night and Rufer straight up said that he was only using NZ as his path to Europe and couldn't care less about the results in Spain and in his own words gave the impression that it was only in his later years when his career was coming to an end that playing for NZ became more inportant.

just watch him flock to us if we get into the world cup tho, then he will be keen as to play, same with Killen, once Clubs and the travel are taken out he'll play, looks like we just have to make the world cup before they will

They'll play the qualifiers outside Oceania as well I imagine.  Hope we make it, we've failed before, even with both of them.

I maybe misunderstanding you bro but I think Killy is a very loyal kiwi, if one of these two would be turning NZ down, surely Killen needs to be at his club more due to competition etc.

What a load of arse.

"In the first match, he guided the Kiwis to their first win in Sydney in 50 years before being part of their narrow loss to Australia in Auckland. He set up 4 tries in the first match in England which the Kiwis won by 42-26. He then missed the fourth Kiwi game, instead returning to New Zealand to be with his wife for the birth of their son."

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Careful Smithy - Wikipedia is not always 100%

Check this out from the Times Online

"So it was fitting that he was there last month when the Kiwis thrashed the mighty Kangaroos to take the tri series title in England despite initially only agreeing to play the first two matches because of the pending birth of his third child and commitments to his new club team.

But Jones is first and foremost a team man, so when injuries started to impact on the Kiwis with few other options at halfback, the number seven didnt hesitate to fly thousands of miles to stand by his comrades, even if it meant wife Rachelle having a caesarean."

Wonder if Ryan would do that?

Did he or didn't he miss the fourth game for the birth of the child?

I think you're completely mental if you think Nelsen should put what should be a straightforward game for us ahead of the birth of his first kid.

I'm not saying that Ryan should drop everything for this game, but like previous posters (postees?)I am starting to have some doubts as to his future International intentions - there always seems to be something coming up that prevents his playing for NZ.

Disappointed to see that I have a mental state because I hold a different opinion though.

In your last two posts you've gone from "lacks passion" to "I'm not saying he should drop everything"...

Initially you weren't "having some doubts" you were as good as accusing him of treason and then in the same breath comparing him with Stacy Jones who did exactly the same thing.

Sounds fairly mental to me.

If it was a dodgy injury (a la Killen) I'd be right there with you, but the birth of a child is a free pass as far as I'm concerned.  Good luck to him.  Let's see what he does for the next game he should be available for.

To be fair I guess he could orchestrate to get his wife pregnant each time we have world cup qualifiers.  THAT would be quality work.

It's also called disrespect, callousness, lousy parenting, and divorce  - (all depends on your perspective i guess)

Anyway enough of us being the moral guardians of Ryan and Stacey, you can talk up the kind of parenting and partnerhood you wish and so can i

enjoy the game, Ed

Yeah I think he left Moss with the Nix because he's been there all year and it'd disrupt the team even more.

Yeah, as soon as we are totally stuffed for top four me thinks Mossey will start playing for AWs

If this was isolated sure.  But he hasn't played for the AWs in years and as someone said above, if he thought his wife might be pregnant then why didn't that come up ages ago?  And that completely ignores the other "dodgy injuries" that have been pulled out every time the All Whites line up a game.  He's not the only premiership player who has international commitments with a small side, look at the Sth American guys.  If he doesn't want to play he should retire, which would be ok.  It just looks shambolic with the current situation.

And Stacey Jones was in the UK, flew to NZ when his wife gave birth missed a test, got on a plane 2 hours later, flew back to the UK and lead the Kiwis to a memorable tri-nations victory so leave him out of it

I thought it was FIFA regulations that players had to be available for internationals if requested.  Due to injuries and the birth of his child he hasnt been able to play the last few games.
If he plays for his club before playing for the All Whites thats when I will be dissapointed in him.
Country before club ALWAYS

I don't care if he plays these games against the Pacific countries, but if he needs to be versus Asia, Sth America whoever we have to play to get through.

That's the test.
