(adapted from an earlier post I made in  Home of NZ Football thread)
Comments welcome...Facts, Fantasy,Humour, Fears..... your call.
''''''
In 3 weeks and 3 days and counting, Football in NZ may have its very best opportunity in 28 years to promote itself. All those years ago it was away in Singapore. This time it's here at home.
The Bahrain away game drawn result means a very lively home encounter with everything on the line and huge local interest.
Unprecedented media attention, focussed on NZ football, began in the lead-up to that away game in Manama, has continued with the surge in ticket sales to the lightning quick sell-out at the stadium and extra seating/no extra seating discussions in recent days.

And what about afterwards? Here's hoping NZFootball are organised to capitalise fully on the opportunity this time.

My fantasy list for Football in NZ if the AW's win.....

NZFootball announce a fantastic set of fixtures, against quality teams, both in NZ and away for the AW's, leading up to  South Africa, including a home and away,  NZ v Australia series..which we win!..and guess who we get to play,.. and beat..in the World Cup in South Africa!!??

NZFootball also announce some big hitting sponsorship(s) that will
a) take the AW's to South Africa and beyond...
b) fund a full NZFC, that includes the Nix reserves (if they aren't already accepted into the A-League youth comp)

The Nix push on from the huge surge in football publicity in Wellington with record crowds, excellent results and finals playoffs..this leads to ...

Simultaneous successful bids from fully-funded Auckland and Christchurch A-League syndicates that lead to almighty Kiwi derby clashes between NZ based clubs...

Media coverage of Football in NZ exceeds, then settles to match that of all other major sports in NZ...(with severe gnashing of teeth etc. from those bureaux without football expertise, as they scramble about to find persons suitably qualified, while their more enlightened competitors outstrip them in the ratings and readership stakes!)

A proliferation of NZ Football TV programmes and tv channels -free to air, subscription and/or online, all heavily subscribed with keen advertisers and sponsors.

All Kiwi kids put their AW heroes right up there with the AB's, Kiwi Olympian Gold medallists, Sir Ed et al.

One day we all look back to a time when it all started with a game in Wellington...

What else could be possible for Football in NZ?

Its true, News..I know daring to even think about what might be possible, before the deeds done on November 14th, could be seen by some to be tempting fate.

I'm discouraging anyone from being rude or showing any lack of respect for NZ's fellow competitors Bahrain in this contest. There is no room here to arrogantly presume NZ will win. Bahrain want this win just as much and they have their proud nation behind them also.

My hope is that every New Zealander, whether you are here in Wellington on the day,... whether you are on the field in the team giving your all,... or on the sidelines coaching, assisting, officiating,organising.. or in the RoF cheering and encouraging...Whether elsewhere in New Zealand or somewhere in the rest of the world...what ever you're doing.
Allow yourself to think for a second what could be if NZ wins...
...then commit to contribute positively, in whatever way you can,
 to make it so.

I hope that provided we win we really get some quality friendlies.  I know in the past Tunisia were keen to play us, they even offered to pay for our team to fly to Tunis, can't remember the reason we didn't take them up on it.  There was talk about a friendly against China and possibly Denmark (in the paper at least) a number of years ago.  Maybe the All Whites management can see if we can make some of these games happen now as well as a few games against Australia (this is an absolute must).

On the topic of Australia, does anybody think we could get a sell-out against them if it was our top team vs their top team (and both of us had qualified for the world cup)?

I reckon we could and that would be great for football here.  I mean, people were doubting we'd better 25 000 for the Bahrain game and we got a full house almost a month before kick-off.  Obviously a friendly vs Australia wouldn't matter as much but there'd be so many quality players on show.

I hope that they will learn from the mistakes form the past, wishful thinking. After '82 football was on a high, but the powers then thought they were high and mighty and would be there forever,we all know what happened , internal bickering , everybody thought of themselves and not the bigger picture ,doing things for the better of the game.

The Nix reserves are farmed out to NZFC teams, the way quality NPC players are shared around.

Superstitions are a part of following a sports team.  Ignore them at your own peril.

Not to mention how it can motivate your opposition and make you look foolish if it doesn't occur.

I reckon the next  best thing for NZ after qualifing for the world cup is to get another NZ based franchise in the a-league.( Not going to happen for a long time but the Nix have showed the way how it should be done.)

Cheers Blattersballs. I hear where you are coming from, but in fact, I'll disagree.

I think what we type here actually has the potential to dramatically and positively affect the events of November 14th.

With all due respect to those who seriously believe in such things, my intention is to positively contribute to, rather than jinx, this special occasion.I can be superstitious as well but recognise my superstitions are based around the fear of failure in this.
Rather than give power to the fear perhaps by confronting it and concentrating fully on hope and positive encouragement, it can make a difference.

We can inspire our mates and our families. We can inspire those people who make the decisions for our game in NZ.We can inspire those that surround and support the team.. Most of all, we can inspire each and every New Zealand player on the field to give their very best and let them know we are right beside them

This is the bit I'm hoping for, especially an extra couple of franchises in the A League as it keeps expanding.

I've decided I won't sabotage the players sleep based solely on their good treatment of our players over there (not worried about this karma stuff).

But, I think putting large images of female genitalia around the players hotel would be so very funny it'd be more than justified.
