I actually don't have an issue with putting tickets on Trademe and getting what the market is prepared to pay for them. If you have the good fortune of have a spare ticket or 2 (maybe due to someone pulling out of going or buying more than you thought you needed) and someone is prepared to pay over the odds for them then well done.
What I do take issue with is the people who buy as many tickets as possible with the sole intention of making as much money as possible. This kind of thing prevents true fans from getting the tickets at face value.
However, having had to find tickets after the sold out sign went up and having closely scrutinised the Trademe listings I have seen no real evidence of the latter behaviour.

So scalping one is ok,but more than one not? yeah right. If you have a spare ticket, dont scalp it,sell it at the price you paid for it,trademe does have a buy now price option you know.
By selling it over the price you are preventing a fan from getting to the game at face value,id still argue that while its not as bad as ripping 100s off,its still bad.
but hey as long as you make yourself a cool $100 at someone else expense. When those 500 tickets come on sale i might just buy one and post it on trademe, because apparently its ok to do so,as long as its only one or two.

Where is the "No, scalpers are blood sucking scum who deserve to be strung up and stoned by those who were unable to get a ticket at face value" option?

You also like selling decent players to build a stadium and don't like trophies, apparently.

So why should anyone run an auction on Trade-Me? Surely the "fair" thing to do would be to sell all items with a buy now at face value.
I presume Tegal that if you were selling your house, you wouldn't take a cent over GV?

I'm just enjoying the fact that we have scalpers for NZ football tickets! When did that ever happen?!?
I know, I know, its serious!

In the UK scalpers are awesome - it means that you can get tickets to almost any event if you are willing to pay the money. Having a liquid secondary market, when you take the emotion out of it, is actually a good thing for fans

Except either way fans are going to get their hands on the tickets anyway, just with the 2nd market itll cost more people more money than it should.
But yeah if you personally can afford it,itd be handy as. Just overall, its not exactly ideal is it.

I don't mind scalpers. They are the only reason I have ever been inside the San Siro. WE payed around 200-250 euros for the 5 tickets (which was way over priced) but we got to see a great game of football with the best atmosphere I have ever seen or felt. So scalpers took me and my family to the best game I have ever been to.

Except without scalpers those tickets may still have been on sale for 30 euro a ticket, so scalpers may have cost you 100 euro. ( I acknowledge this doesn't take into account season tickets and the like that are sold by those that can't go to a particular game.)

as i said,on a personal basis it is handy. But as on overall view, its taking a ticket away from a fan who intends to go to the game, and making them pay more for it. Its just getting an illegal middleman/agent in there, who makes a quick buck off of the ticket. Either way the ticket ends up in the hands of someone who wants to go to the game, but with scalpers the fans end up paying more.

scalping has been around for ages!! get over it for those who think its not ok. If trademe decide to pull those who do it well good. if they dont...well then good. life goes on. Atleast its a sell out. dam. better then a half empty stadium.

Of course its good that its a sell out, no ones arguing that. I don't think anyone is even arguing that it is a big deal in this instance as a sell out was unexpected, thus a very limited number are being scalped (although I do think it will be interesting to see how many show up at midday on Wednesday on trademe). However the principal of thing sucks.

I think scalping is ok in some instances, but when you have some people who don't actually give a dam about football coming in and making people who actually care pay hand over fist for them that annoys me.

Could've bought your ticket earlier.....someone else has a spare or two, or bought more than they needed and you REALLY want to go.....how much do you want to go....show someone the money?
There was plenty of time to buy tickets, then still a huge demand after a week of warnings it was selling out.....yet "real" fans still missed out....hmmmmm
He who stumbles.....
Get them when they ARE available, don't wait to see what happens...or how ticket sales go....if you want to go, buy them as soon as they become available....
Scalpers....if we give them a marketplace they will buy....and then re-sell....with margin!!

You guys are just racist against American Indians.
I like tautologies because I like them.

Ha! they could have fixed the scalping problem real easy. For each ticket you bought for the Bahrain match you had to buy a ticket for the next AW's vs Vanuatu game....... try scalping those.

I still don't think they are getting scalped, although I will be interested to see what happens on Wednesday. Because people now know the demand, and If they sell out in minutes, then I expect to see many scalpers on match day and on sites like Trademe.

Ahem /historical fact alert/ While scalping by American Indians arguably existed before colonial times, it was "popularised" by Europeans. The European military paid friendly tribes to kill unfriendly tribes, with scalps required as proof of kill. Apparently, the payment for scalps law is officially still in place (obviously not used) in some parts of North America. /ends/

Agreed. Now this game is known to have demand exceeding supply, the Wednesday tickets will be prime scalping targets.

selling a ticket at more than its face value = scalping, whether its innocent or not. Doesnt have to be done on mass.

In that case, I've got no problem with scalping. None at all. What I do have a problem with is buying tickets for the sole purpose of selling on. That is the proper definition of scalping that a lot of people are working with.
Given that we have two camps, one working with a pragmatic intent definition and one working with a dogmatic puritanical definition, this discussion is never going to generate any sort of agreement.
