That was my understanding as well - which means its probably only going to be played once.  However most are used to it twice now, leading to the situation of both languages being sung  at once by different parts of the crowd.

At risk of sounding like a broken record. Who cares if its lame, it'll be loud.  We also should just treat Bahrain like crap, Boo them for everything, sing over their anthem. Just generally show them no respect and get in their heads. If you can hear their travelling fans at all I'll be gutted.

How did they treat our national anthem there ?

From memory it was with respect.  I'm not sure we need to go doing something that will help them bond and focus against us before the match even starts.

Even then I wouldn't join in. Perhaps I'm sitting on some sort of high horse but to me National Anthems are all about a nations identity around the world and while I don't want the opposition to win I don't think its right to disrespect that identity.

Also, FIFA don't look too kindly on this kind of behaviour. Serbs copped a big fine for whistling during the Marseillese in Belgrade a couple of months ago. And with the financial state NZF is in, that's the last thing we need.

I too do not want to show disrespect when the national athems are played but it would be embarassing if we hear there supporters during the game.

I was thinking today anyway, imagine full noise around the ground leading up to anthems, full noise NZ anthem and silence during Bahrain anthem. Would send a rather hostile message. Being in a country surrounded by water and having rather limited support.

Two definites for me are the AW's Spain 82 song and Leo B chant.
 
As for our national anthem it is supposed to be in English AND Maori. That is the proper anthem so if you don't like it then get over it. it is correctly sung English first and Maori last, and I'm pretty sure the tune they played in Bahrain allowed for the Maori verse to be sung.

Yep. This is an international with a team we've never had any association - not a league match where you would expect grudges. So some respect is warranted.

It would be different if they had done a Talay on us and scored or had been hostile or had, oh I dunno, invaded Poland or tried to set up Pan-Asia sphere of "co-prosperity".
