Singing v Bahrain

Try and find some footage of the Newcastle fan wandering around the pitch with a microphone and a flag singing songs to get the supporters up for it before a relegation clash with Portsmouth (I think) last season.  It really is shockingly embarrassing.

People will chant if they are that way inclined.  Having someone do it with a microphone or having the words printed in front of them is not going to make someone who won't chant do it.  You cannot force an atmosphere - it will either come or it won't.  People will join in with the very basic ones like "All Whites clap clap clap", and then listen to the other ones that the white noise do, and join in if they want.  People are not going to join in because no one is doing it with a microphone (oh-er), and if they cannot pick up the words to something like "Ricki Herberts All White Army" then there really isn't any hope for them.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

People chanting in other aisles will be interesting. Ive heard of instances in nix games when people have been told to keep quiet when not in the YF zone.

its security,so probably not a good idea if you want to stay and watch the game?

seems a bit odd that security would tell people to be quiet - perhaps Buzz24/7 (or Buzz with his correct numbers) could confirm or deny that one for us

if they do, then surely Nix management shouldtell them  to back off

as for the 14th you'd need a team of several hundred black belt psycho librarians to sush our crowd

Except when the Bahraini keeper takes a goal kick.

Dead quiet please (likewise at Phoenix matches).

The Newcastle guy is a muppet, sure - but that's because he's from Newcastle!

I said Miles if it HAS to be - I'd prefer 5 "esteemed" (read: not-good-to-drive) Fever members did it - or at least someone on the PA point out that people should chant?

Honestly, I know what you mean about seeming cheesy or lame or forced, but a lot of people packed in one place behave like sheep, and I'm sure there's a non-embarrassing-yet-effective way of drawing to their attention that you want them to yell out "Who are ya?"...

i think thats why the feverzone was created though. So that there was a place people could stand up and chant and make noise, and other places where people can go just to watch the game without having a loudmouth shouting for 90mins behind them. Though from what ive heard security were over the top at areas outside of the feverzone for a while there (though note this was a while ago so may have changed since).

But Im more saying itll be interesting if the same measures are employed outside of the feverzone of people chanting and shouting all game,or if theyll let it slide since its sold out and they dont have the option of the feverzone if they want to make some noise.

Just to give an example of the security's previous exuberance, my partner and I at the LA Galaxy game. We were literally the other side of the steps from the main group of Yellow Fever, standing up waiting for the game to start, and the Johnny-come-latelys showed up sitting behind us bitched and moaned to security that they couldn't see.

And this was when the tickets said our seats were explicitly Yellow Fever zone in Aisle 21, we were told to sit down or we had to move!!

I was seriously ready to turn around and smack someone, but was the better man, and we moved down towards the front in aisle 22 (ironically close to where I now have my season seat).

The seats we ended up in were vacated by yet another group of Johnny-come-latelys who vacated them because they didn't like the crowd standing up and all the noise they were making.

I hope the security people don't get overzealous at the All Whites game. And I hope NZF are making that clear to Westpac Stadium management.

The last thing we want to hear after the game is that people were forced to refrain from celebrations because the boring egg ball watching fraternity turned up expecting to watch a nice game of cricket (polite appluase only please), and had to endure people actually trying to enjoy themselves.Ard Righ2009-10-29 21:53:08

Yeh itll certainly be interesting. At nix games the problem is mostly solved by the clear boundaries of the feverzone and the rest of the stadium, and easy access to the zone. With this game there will be a lot of people wanting to make noise etc outside of the zone, having not been able to get white noise tickets quick enough.

Hopefully they are a bit more tolerant than they have been at nix games in the past.

Brings back memories of the Aus fans email bombardment of the Knights and the FFA to get vuvuzuelas (sp ?) banned from Knights games.  Good times.

Back on topic though, the Ultra is talking up chants again http://bloc5.blogspot.com/

If you can convince a crowd of 35,000 to stay completely quiet when their keeper takes a goal kick, I will give you $100. You can quote me on that. Its impossible enough with the Shhhing at the Nix matches with 7000.

Exactly.  Some people won't want to stand and chant during the match and that's fine, it's more about getting on the other teams back, geeing up at corners etc, put pressure on the ref when fouls are given etc etc, make it an intimidating atmosphere

Getting it to work is another thing.

i'd be gutted if i get told to sit down and be quiet cause tag alongs don't like the noise. i didn't know about the white noise zone when i bought my tickets (pre-sale) and when i saw there was an option, i had no idea of how to get them.
people need to realize football supporters are passionate and can't help but get vocal

ok everyone, you make good points.

I am in Aisle ***, I will be chanting and if some one is upset because i am being passionate they can move, Its entirely those "johnny come alongs" - or whatevers fault (well at least 80% their fault, 20% mine at least I'll be in the stadium) that people like me missed out on the A21 zone, I'll be with 7 mates and we will be chanting and heck im going to do my best to encourage others around me to chant. Once people realise how fun it is and how it moves the team they'll play along....besides isnt that the reason they are going?? to experience something new and exciting???

I must also add that I can understand why some people are "against" chants. This is because they have the misconception that "ultras" are hooligans. I have been at matches where youths who think itl be cool to go drunk and swear and yell nasty things and yes they would ruin the astmosphere even in the zone.

Im keeping to the chants i know, may break of with a "LETS GO **** MENTAL NA NA NA NA NA" once in a while.

anyway i hope we all go in good voice

I'll be completely ropeable if I'm told to shut it on the night.

White Noise is unsuitable for us as we have children in our group, but nowhere did I see that sitting outside of White Noise means we can't get vocal.

Can someone actually clarify if the fears expressed here are valid or if it is paranoia? And perhaps someone from YF with any connections to NZ Football raise this point to pre-empt any ridiculous security on the night??

P.S If I can convince the other 11 in my group to get vocal then I'm happy to be an unofficial satellite White Noise Zone from Aisle 30.

In fact if there are others here sitting outside white noise in a group, could we create other "cells" throughout the ground??

its a ligitamate concern, i know of people who have been asked to be quiet (even next to the ZONE)

the truth is, if everyone who wants to chant does the general public will just have to sit  back and enjoy the show.

people just dont get the importance of this match.

Yeah me, I'll be in aisle 11, with a group of 11 down the front trying to rev people up.
Fingers crossed I don't get bottled.
It would be a real shame if people were like "Sit down! Be quiet!" etc.
It would really taint the whole affair...

On another note, was there any sarcasm involved in keeping quiet while their keeper is taking goal kicks or do you mean seriously show them respect? Just so I know.

like i said before ill be trying to lead some, and really there is no excuse for not following along, they are soooooooooooo easy and suuuuch well known melodies most tone deaf people will still pick them up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW is there any interest in changing the chants to be directed at bahrain?? ie same old arabs always cheating??? or "Shar-mou-ta!!!!" instead of "who are ya"

I wouldnt blame people for not wanting to do that sort of stuff but this is a HUGE match....and from supporting a Greek club we all know chants in various languages and use them at uefa matches etc.....very effective!!!

I'm serious about being an unofficial White Noise representative in the main bowl, and now Dwyer is keen too.

Could some of your experienced guys give us a "cheat sheet" on what to do/not to do/basic chants/etc?

And I am presuming that shirts come off at 80 minutes under the appropriate conditions??

Seriously it would be lol-tastic if 34,900 people take their shirts off simultaneously.

IMO no negative chants.

Remember many of us will be trying to get timid people in the crowd to join in - "Same old Arabs" isn't going to work towards that end.

With you mostly ahmad.  No to the variants suggested above, but I think "Who are Ya" is good for intimitading opponents and standard at least in league comps.

General view is that we have no history with Bahrain so no need to get personal and should treat them with respect...until they start doing dodgy stuff on the field (e.g. she fell over, doing a Talay, studs up etc)

Sheik fell over....

Sorry, that was in bad taste.
Junior82's hit the nail on the head - I thought maybe it was over-prudence about racism that makes "same old arabs" sound bad, but it's the lack of history thing. With Aussies we've had over a hundred years to know all to well that yes, they are "always cheating". With the Bahraini's we should give them the unprejudiced benefit of the doubt... initially at least

Sheik fell over is quite funny and not at all offensive. The "Same Old Arabs" sort of chant however fails the historical context test, as progeny observes. No way can we use that sort of thing.

"Shiek fell over"= C-Diddy classic

here's a few I  prepared earlier

to the tune of 'score in a minute"

"light up a camel,
it's time to light up a camel
light up a camel,
it's time to light up a camel

-----------

to tune of  Rock the Casbah

" Bahrainians won't like it
Score 1 Smeltzy, score 1 Rory

 Bahrainians won't like it
Score 1 Smeltzy, score 1 Rory

Now over in the White Noise
Oh! they really pack em in
The Noise Boys say its cool
To dig this All Whites thing

Macala he dont like it,
Rock the 4 Kings
Rock the Bencher

-------

there is a tune - i can't remember it's name

Macala's got a camel
he's had it 15 years
and when we beat you Bahrain
we'll see that camel's tears

(he's been  coaching over that part of the world since 1994)
