Anyone interested in a White Noise turnout to this? Maybe get on the lash Friday after work and then shuttle out to the game and give it some noise?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Keen on this. Good time to get some solid prep in at the pub before we take our seats. I imagine the ASB will be good for noise if we can get a cabal of White Noise.

This.

Meet at Kings. Sink a few. YF will pick up the shuttle out to the game (prob - depending on numbers).

Read the details on the banner in the first post on the thread.

Or Door sales only, $10 per game or all 3 games for $20.

I went to the saturday game which we lost 6-0....Aussie was way too good. Leo didn't look cut out for indoor!

Before the game on Saturday we went for dinner in town. Saw a dude on Cuba Street dressed up in NZ tracksuit with a NZ football bag. He was eating a kebab and drinking a fanta...turns out he was one of the starters! Great pre-match nutrition

Some unfit over weight dudes in the squad would make good pressie grade rugby props though.

Get Shane Heal in as coach at least would be able to come up with a game plan for defense.

So what are you suggesting, that futsal goes back to private providers?

Don't really mind who is doing it as long as it's user pays.

Futsal is still largely viewed by many people as being an after work thing done during the week. Hence the calibre of players (reading the above posts etc)

Grumpy old bastard alert

Many of the top footballing countries in the world (excluding Brasil now?) use futsal as a development tool and many top players played street football/futsal when they were younger. I think it has a role in NZ football however at the moment the quality of players in the national team is terrible. Having overweight guys represent your country is not a good look nor is it going to get results.

Tactically they look out of place, ball speed is too slow and the defensive structure is not coherent and leaves too many gaps.

If futsal had better funding would things change? Maybe, but if a player decides to not apply proper nutritional guidelines to his/her preparation then all the money in the world is not going to help.

It'll be interesting to see if the program comes under review.

Thing is, loads of successful countries don't use futsal at all and at higher levels/ages you don't get great futsal players crossing over to football.  You can get all the benefits of futsal from normal small sided games and other skill acquisition techniques.  To me, it's just a distraction from the other NZF programmes to develop better skilled players.  I'm sure it's a lot of fun to play and clearly some of the people involved are really passionate about it, but it's basically a different sport.  I don't really see why it's something NZF is taking seriously and funding.

I could not agree more with James Dean.

Seems like a bit of a luxury item for NZF. I'd much rather see that money in the All Whites budget, or mitigating the costs they keep heaping on youth players.

Futsal Whites playing in New Caledonia this week 11th to 17th all funded by NZF.

Let's hope Martin puts the same funding into the ASB Premiership as they are spending on Futsal in a year.

Next Futsal comp is a Four Nations Cup in Wellington 9th October according to NZF.

Must be spending as much on this team as the AWs.

Futsal Whites out to defend top spotThe Futsal Whites head into next week’s Oceania Futsal Championship Invitational in New Caledonia looking to retain top spot in the Pacific region.

The event – the second consecutive invitational futsal tournament run by OFC – will feature four Oceania nations; New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti and Vanuatu as well as one special guest from the Asian Football Confederation, last year’s runners-up Malaysia.

The Futsal Whites finished third in the 2013 tournament held at the Trusts Stadium in Henderson with the New Zealand side beaten 2-0 the semi-finals by Australia.

The home side won the third-placed playoff 1-0 over Tahiti, confirming the Futsal Whites as Oceania champions.

The 12-player Futsal Whites squad for the 2014 event was confirmed earlier this week and includes two players not involved in the recent Trans-Tasman Cup series loss to Australia with James Vaughan and Lucas Da Silva joining the side while captain Marvin Eakins will be on deck for the entire tournament.

Six players from the clash with Australia won’t travel to New Caledonia with Leo Bertos – who has left for India to link up with his new football club East Bengal, Josh Stevenson, Ryan Batty, Tai Barham and Bakr Al-Saudi not included while Miroslav Malivuk is ruled out through injury.

After their third-placed finish last year in an event which also included Australia, Futsal Whites coach Scott Gilligan says the team has a point to prove with Malaysia part of the 2014 tournament.

“This tournament is very important,” Gilligan says, “we finished top of the Oceania teams in this tournament last year, so for us to maintain that is important.

“The first game against Malaysia will be important to show how far we’ve come and Vanuatu has been training four times a week and they are a little bit of a sleeping giant.”

Gilligan says having Eakins back in the mix is a big boost for his side.

“Marvin makes a big difference, just with the steadying influence he brings and his movement as well.”

The first game of the tournament for Eakins and the Futsal Whites is against Malaysia on Tuesday 12 August.

Meanwhile, New Zealand FIFA level futsal referee Chris Sinclair will be one of the 11 match officials for the tournament.

Malaysia challenge in front of Futsal WhitesFutsal Whites coach Scott Gilligan is expecting another tight tussle on Tuesday as his side go up against guest nation Malaysia at the Oceania Futsal Championship Invitational in New Caledonia.

Futsal Whites coach Scott Gilligan. Photo by Photosport.

Gilligan has been in charge since February 2012 and the results of his hard work with a number of these players is starting to show.

“We’re expecting a very tough game, as it was last year,” Gilligan said of the opening encounter.

“We know that all the Asian teams are a lot better than the Oceania teams at the moment but I think the four countries that are here from Oceania will certainly put their best foot forward and try and give Malaysia a good game.

“We’re the first game off the rank and hopefully we can prove to not just Malaysia, but the rest of Oceania that we do have the team to compete.

Gilligan’s Futsal Whites consists of the vast majority of the side that beat Tahiti 1-0 to claim a podium finish in 2013, Gilligan is confident he has a strong core that can continue improving to challenge for Oceania’s FIFA Futsal World Cup berth next year.

“Obviously the first two years I was in charge we chopped and changed quite a lot as we were looking for the right players. It’s only a year now until the next tournament, and that’s the World Cup qualifiers, so pretty much from this year we selected a core of 24 players and they’re the 24 who will work through to the final 12 next year.”

Captain Marvin Eakins will be key to controlling the pace of the game on the pitch, while the inclusion of the skilful Lucas Cordeiro Osorio Da Silva will surely bring some added flair alongside 2013 Golden Boot winner Dylan Manickum.
