Thought it would be a good idea to have a thread for people who are looking at going to the World Cup next year to share whta theyre doing, good deals etc.

Ive got a quote on my airfares now and am thinking of just booking flights into rio or sao paulo and booking accomodation depending on whether the AW's qualify and what other gamesI get tickets for.

The thing that has suprised me is how ridiculous accomodation is going to cost. Whats everyone else up to?

about 4k to rio. Think we're going to base ourselves in rio but arent going to book accommodation untill after the playoff incase the AW's get there. Going to apply for tickets this week, applying to all the games in rio, a few in Sao Paulo, and a couple in Brasilia.

It was a few years ago now but I flew to Rio via BA with Aerolineas Argentinas and then got a South American Airfare that allowed me so many stops within SA for a reasonable amount. It was a Star Alliance fare that I bought here. I went from BA to Iguasu Falls, drove across the broder to the Brasilian side and flew to Rio, then after that did a bit of hopping to La Paz, from Cusco back to BA via La Paz. Sure I was touring around but thinking a little outside the square might find a cheaper option. From memory I saved quite a bit by taking a 30 minute taxi ride across the border rather than flying from the Argentina side of the falls to Rio. You might be able to do something similar by using AA or Lan Chile to get on the continent in the first place.
