Just watching the game again... i cant help but feel the whole nz game plan was to defend and survive.... for 80 minutes then maybe atack.

Reading some of stu's comments plus what was said by the commentaqtor it sounds like he expected a thrashing and planned damage control.

Hope not... where was Roddy on the forum he's been talked up alot, and he was named as the third keeper for us for that game!

Difficult though, do you go out and attack against one of the best teams in the tournament, get a hiding and demoralise the fellahs and also ruin your goasl difference so you have no way of going through as one of the best 3rd placed teams?

Normo's coming home

We need to win against Gambia. If that doesn't happen. Then we may as well go home.

We just need to be confident and knock the ball around. And stop giving it away.

I am expecting to see a different style of play against Gambia. If they play the same way then I will be very dissapointed and Stu Jacobs has been day dreaming this whole trip and obviously just wanted a holiday.

If we build it, they will come...

Talked up Gambia alot aswell.... can u say long ball????

Can't win if you don't try to score goals.

I think we're in a very tough group.  From the highlights I saw of the Gambia-Mexico game, they (the Gambians) are fast and strong, as you would expect from a good African team.  They gave Mexico a serious go.  The scoreline definitely doesn't reflect how the game went.  I think Stu is right to be careful.  Hopefully we get more than just three or four opportunities against them (as he was quoted), but I think we need to build from the back and keep possession.  No panic, no hoofing it forward, just patience and determination.

In saying that I agree that it a game we have to win, but against Mexico they came out firing (against one of the tournament favorites) and faded more as the game went on.  I think if we are going to win against them we will need to wait for the chances, not go charging up the field.

Mexico are a different thing again.  I think it will be damage limitation against them.  Gio Dos Santos and Vela will be tightly marked and if we come away with a draw I will be over the moon.  Still looking forward to the game though.

I think the Long ball might actually work against the Gambians. Two reasons.

1) We nearly scored with the long ball tactic against portugal.

2) Mexico scored two of their goals with a long ball through.

We are going to need to defend and play out of our skins. Gambia are no doubt a better side than us. They had 15 shots against Mexico. They will put some of those past us. They will prob get 20 chances against us. They could beat us 5-0.

I am going to be happy with anything from a kiwi victory to a 2-0 loss. Anymore of a loss than that and it is a nothing game. Although if we lose 4-2 but managed to play well and get on the score sheet twice I would be quite happy too.

Lets get some goals in this tournement.

I hope he plays Brockie and Draper up front. He would be stupid not to.
