Accordingly to the news, starting line up seems to be:

                      Moss

Mulligan Boyens Vicelich Scott

            Oughton Elliot
   Barron                      Smith

               James
                            Killen

but they are aware of the new grass . . . slow and soft patches may be painful.

South Africa are beating Poland 1-0, my hope of getting a result against SA is now all but gone.  they are under huge pressure within SA to make the semis though, so if we don't lose to Botswana, i'll keep dreaming.

according to the Botswana FA site, all Botswana Premier League matches were postponed this weekend because of the match against the Allwhites.  you've gotta love any country that holds NZ in such high esteem!

There's nothing. It's sad times being an All Whites supporter.

Yeah it's definitely a difference to the other team I support (Argentina by marriage). Oh well.. I will always dream of a day when the All Whites will be more publicised! Bring on the Confed & World Cup :) At least you know you're a loyal fan when you're sitting there for the whole game with no news, constantly reloading the page.

Obviously I haven't seen the matches, but it's a bit of a concern we could only score once (and from a penalty) against those two. A draw is better than a loss, but considering we are about to be playing in the confed cup, a win would have been a lot more respectable.

Maybe we can be the Greece (from the Euro a while back) of the tournament and just hold on for a bunch of miraculous 0-0 draws.

Well on the radio stream the AW's played very very defending type of game. I'm sure its because of the pitch that the game was slow - but damn defending for 90+ min suxs.
If you listen to radio Africa's sports news you will hear that the AW's just defended and played long ball all game.

from what i saw of Uzbekistan today, they looked not at all bad, and they currently lie at the bottom of the Aus/Japan group.  my positivity RE our playoff against 5th Asian side is melting fast.

Not a great warm up so far to say the least.

Three for me, and two for them.

pretty dissapointing. Haven't heard the words all whites and win together for a while and dunno if we will for some time with the quality of the upcoming teams. Hopefully we can get results againgst SA and Iraq.

And I would have thought Ricki would have given the Smeltz/ Killen strikfe force a run because we always hear how they have little game time together

Oh well.
The bench was almost all nix past and present players

Smeltz was carrying a groin niggle apparently - probably best not to risk him

I think that 0-0 aint all bad at least we did defend haha...we have only played two games together as a team all year so hopefully the more we play the better the results.

[QUOTE=convict]Well on the radio stream the AW's played a very very defending type of game. ...

Will be good practice for the next 4 games then, wont it!!!.. strong defence will be key to prevent humiliation, would hope they dispense with long ball and get serious up front too.
The key here is they are getting quality game time together against some of the best football teams in the world.
Sure I'd love to see some good results with the Confederations Cup and every game they represent New Zealand is important, but the ones that matter are the WC play offs.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

I would have to agree here. We have to be on top of our defensive formation before we could try and set up sweeping attacks. We are being cautious with the newly sowed ground which is brown, soft and slow with holes. We don't want injuries and we want to have a team communicating with each other.

I imagine for the game against Italy we will have a near to full strength line-up and work on the same defensive tactics and introduce counter measures in the first half and see whether we can get our passing game going in some form in the second half without losing back tracking. It would give us a big picture what we can and cannot do at that level.
