I've just watched a replay of the match.  Time on clock 92.25, we get a foul in our own half.

Ryan takes the free kick and knocks the ball way down into their half.  REFEREE BLOWS OUR GUYS OFF SIDE!

From the free kick Bahrain get the glancing header which Paston saves.

It is the most clear case of not interfering with play that you will see, the ball is over their heads they don't chase and rolls into touch.  A small part of the story of the match that could have had a huge bearing on the outcome

I was wondering what that was for.  I figured it couldn't be offside with nobody having a go at it, but there you go.

Yeah, I think Bahrain were hard done by with their infringement on Paston.  It really should have been a goal for them, having watched it over and over, thank god for a bad refereeing call. disco_mart2009-11-17 01:12:02

On the UK coverage I was watching I never saw a proper replay of that - was wondering about it.

I guess you have to be realistic, anywhere near the keeper in the 6 yard box and you're likely to be pinged

Hang on - are we talking about two different things here?

Firstly (OP) about the offside in the penultimate play of the match?

And the Bahraini's effort into the back of our net that was disallowed for an infringement that I didn't understand? (and what a spooky deflection/bounce that was!).

Keepers get overprotected in my opinion.  I'm not going to jump up and down over the issue now though.

Glory have had a goal for and against them this season for this exact thing!

A cold shiver runs down the spine every time I think of this.

But apparently the ref did blow well before the Bahraini "shot".

Yes, if you watch the replay, the ref blows, and Mark Paston is just standing there when the Bahrainis put the ball in the net, because he knows the call was already made.

it was pretty silly of us to get offiside, evenif we weren't interfering. The Bahraini line was ridiculously high so we prob should have been safe and dropped to our own half. Would have made a for a great sprint for the ball. The header off the free kick was decent.

Pasty would have saved that shot if the whistle hadn't of gone

But what if Paston hadnt saved the penalty or what if Rory had scored from his first header or if the crossbar had been a bit narrower Killens shot might have gone in.

No worries for our very own God!

When I first saw this I thought you were gonna be complaining about Nelsen's poor decision to kick the ball out and I thought "Jeez, that's pretty harsh"! But yeah, whatever. Decent header and I thought it was going to go in... But Paston coolly claimed it!
