is anyone else concerned that a guy with next to no record that we know bugger all about has come out on top of a very poor pool of options?
yes. But funnily enough I don't think anyone else is. Now he is in (allegedly) a couple of people seem to be going hmmm. But until now everyone hears 'young Mourinho' and creams their pants. Rediculous
What I do like is that it's a break from the past. We need some different influences in NZ football beyond the traditional British approach and values. It's a positive step that guys like Ramon and this guy subscribe to a different version of the game. If we had Van Egmond or Farina, while I don't think it would be a disaster, it would be more of the same. Not guarantee of success, but at least what this guy should do with the team is going to be a lot closer to what the better European based players are hearing week in and week out at their clubs

If you checkout this guys interviews on YT you get a sense where he is at football wise. He is actually very non traditional British in his outlook. He adores modern Spanish football and the way Latins countries play the game. He has studied with Beilsa in Argentina and under Mourinho.
One thing that really comes across is his passion for the game and the way he thinks it should be played. I would support his appointment on two levels
1, He's not Sanchez or Butcher or Farina or any of the other hacks mooted
2, His football philosophy is in perfect alignment with the young talent that is coming through in NZ football.
The only doubts I would have would be on his commitment time wise. He is hugely ambitious(which is great) and he said he wants to be a coach at senior European level within five years. So it appears that he may not be around for long. You don't make it to coaching big time in Europe by swanning around in the backwaters of Oceania for too long. He will expect and demand All White games...and it will be interesting to see how NZF respond.
However his job includes overseeing and coordinating football across the age groups in NZ. If he can stay long enough to implement a modern football style on the NZ game then he may have a significant impact on the game here.
