yeah I thought 75mins was a close call but manageable

Google says in Normal traffic its 16mins so I thought allow 45mins we should be sweet!

By the time we get in a taxi will have about 30mins

Same for me Ticketec should refund ...should they not ?
Typical NZF ...should expect nothing less....

"normal traffic" time is 16 mins?

That would be at 5 am rather than when there is moderate traffic.

You might need to ask the driver if it will be quicker to go "around the bays" instead of through the Mt Vic tunnel at that time of day if you think the traffic will be mental.

Yep go round the bays. If you got to oriental parade (bout a 5-10 min drive from the airport) and found that the traffic was really bad and you were going nowhere, I would .just run it It would probably be like a 15-20 min run from Oriental Parade. Seeing the magnitude of the event, I wouldn't feel embarressed at all to stretch the legs to get there in time..

LOL! Hopefully not into a howling northerly. Your kids might get there before you do.

So does this mean if any of these players receive a yellow they will miss the home leg?? Or do they not carry though to the play offs

Also did Ian Hogg receive a second yellow in the last game against Solomon Islands that carry's through? I seem to remember reading that somewhere..

Answered by Piney here (and yes, I believe Hogg is out for the play-off first leg too).

(Cards only carry through if they were acquired in World Cup qualifiers - so I'm assuming all those cards were picked up in earlier qualifiers?)

Nine frontline #allwhites are on a yellow card. Another booking in the away leg at the Azteca mean they'll miss the home leg #WC2014

Winston Reid will get given a yellow card in the first leg.

I'll bet my balls on it.

What happened with Tommy Smith, he wanted to play center midfield for the All whites, actually he promoted himself with the manager to play alongside McGlinchey , but never given the chance,  Do you know why?

Does anyone here have any idea why Javier Hernandez no longer has a yellow card and will no longer miss the Azteca game?

Maybe they had their chance to have their card count wiped at the end of the CONCACAF qualifying. OFC used ours after stage 1 rather than at the end of stage 3

Thats my guess.

that would be a smart time to cancel them for Mexico but it wouldn't effect someone who had already reached the card limit.
From memory I think they wipe cards at the point where Concaf goes into the top 6 group?  could be wrong.

No idea Chopah. I just think that from an OFC stand point, knowing that they have a guaranteed play off spot against someone, they would do the team that qualifies a favour in wiping before the playoff. Being pressured by American Samoa has done no one any favours. Also when you look at Hogg, he has not been touched by Ricki since he got suspended (and oddly, both Phoenix and ACFC don't want him either) It has had a spin off effect although like you say, he had reached the limit.

Unfortunately there's much worse from Mexican fans on the All Whites Facebook page threatening what they will do to the All Whites' anus etc. (those posts have now been removed for obscenity).
C'mon guys following this forum - get posting on the All Whites Facebook page - even if just to balance up the majority of posters there who are either Mexican, American or  Central American (greatly outnumbering us Kiwis):

There were a whole lot of not very subtile references to us needing to "prepare your anus's"    Must be a Mexican thing, obviously they have issues with that part of the anatomy. Actually shouldn't it be prepare your anai......that being the plural of anus?

Actually it could be a "lost in translation" moment. We have references to "kick your arse" , "tan your butt"  etc

'Prepare Your Anus's" - I think that's quite inspired, what a great rally cry. It should be the All Whites new Moto. "Parate Anums" or "Parate Cūlus's" maybe? Anyone  know Latin? Thay stopped teaching it at my school and I've regretted not learning it all my life.

The mexican are trying to mean that they will "shag"(fuck from behind) the all whites or the NZ national team, it is a sexual remark, (remember some countries they see woman as a possession and sex as a denigration to woman the act of a powerful man) , even in Spain, Portugal and Italy with many cases of domestic violence.  The cursing, the nasty insults that you may receive is just FOLK, guys, they are very much against the wall, a lot of pressure from the powerful, rich people.  Remember the hooligans as well, Ireland vs England or England vs Scotland are very nasty as well.

best regards,  and lets talk about football.  Shall we?

As a warning to any All Whites supporter who is going to Mexico City for the first playoff game - I recall a game between Mexico and South Korea I attended in Los Angeles. It was a mass of boisterous Mexican supporters, a small knot of Koreans and neutrals like me. When South Korea scored drinks and debris rained down on the Korean supporters from the sea of Mexicans surrounding them. Then to my astonishment one Korean (probably an ex-marine as they all seem to be) got out of his seat, climbed over several startled Mexican supporters and thumped the Mexican who had thrown something at him. Then he climbed back over the row of Mexicans and sat down. I wouldn't recommend it but it was the most reckless and bravest thing I've ever seen.

If you're going to the game, take your hard-hat.

Mexico games in Los Angeles are always chaos. Always. As a Mexico fan even I hate going. Its like the wild west, and Hobbes state of nature all roled into one. But as someone who has seen the national team play in Mexico City, it is no where near as chaotic or insane. I was there at that game you mentioned and it freaking sucked. I was there at the rose bowl against NZ and it freaking sucked too. Azteca, was awesome!

No offence, but that's an absolute load of bollocks. Did they demand their kit and kaboodle back off Ridenton and Riera instantly too for being so treacherous as to make football a full time gig? So ACFC's new motto is 'you can play for us as long as you speak Spanish and never want to have ambition of being a professional footballer'

Am sure the All Whites in the Phoenix will have done that - would be pretty useful to them...

Similarly, former US 164 cap international Cobi Jones was on Fox Sports in the US a few days ago saying he thinks the All Whites have a good chance (he's a mate of Simon Elliott from their days at LA Galaxy).

Nice article in the Herald on the weekend remembering the All Whites 4-0 victory over Mexico in 1980 with quotes from those involved:

ALL WHITES WATERSHED 1980 GAME

By Michael Brown @Lionsden08

5:30 AM Saturday Oct 19, 2013

Captain Steve Sumner recalled this week that a bizarre pre-game display did little for Mexico's chances. "I remember lining up with those guys and when their names were announced each player would step out, do a little Mexican dance and go, 'woohoo'," Sumner said.

"They all did it, they were that confident. This was 1980. You didn't do that sort of thing. You might stand there and, if you were lucky, raise your arm and wave to the crowd. After looking at these guys we couldn't wait for the whistle to go so we could get into them."

...Among the 5000-strong crowd was Australia coach Rudi Gutendorf, although he tried to go unnoticed. Adshead recalls Gutendorf comically tried to disguise himself by wearing a cap pulled low and a big overcoat.

"I go home tomorrow not worried about Mexico, but I have to worry about New Zealand a little bit," Gutendorf said after the match. He was right to be worried, as the All Whites famously beat Australia and qualified for the World Cup.

Maybe this is the dance in questionhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2vPq17HJmI

Rudi Gutendorf in disguise...

Mexico will have a friendly vs Finland on the 30th. Here is the list of players that were called up. These players are all based out of the local league. No euros as it does not fall under a fifa friendly schedule. We call these games "paritidos moleros" which for me translates to piece of sh*t games not to be taken seriously. Out of this list I only expect a handful of players to be seriously considered for the playoff match.

CONVOCADOS

Jesús Corona

Moisés Muñoz

Rafael Márquez

Juan Carlos Valenzuela

Francisco Rodríguez

Paul Aguilar

Miguel Layún

Edwin Hernández

Adrián Aldrete

Miguel Herrera

Hiram Mier

Rodrigo Salinas

Juan Carlos Medina

Lucas Lobos

Carlos Peña

Luis Mendoza

Luis Montes

Jesús Molina

Alonso Escoboza

Oribe Peralta

Raúl Jiménez

Aldo de Nigris

Players in yellow are all from club america. Goes to show how the new coach is showing favoritism. Players in bold are most likely in for the match against NZ.

.

That is not what Mexico coach Herrera is quoted as saying in the media though. Says he won't use ANY European-based players in the play-offs. So, I think the players you name are the players he'll use. From today's NZ papers:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/9308251/Mexico-squad-named-for-All-Whites

MEXICO SQUAD NAMED FOR ALL WHITES

Mexico City (Reuters)

"The 22 players in the squad the stocky Herrera, nicknamed Piojo (louse) picked for a friendly warmup against Finland on October 30 are all with Mexican clubs.

''There are lots of America people because there's little time to work, because they know perfectly well what we want on the pitch and this way we can reach the level we need a lot quicker,'' Herrera said.

He added that it was unlikely he would call any of Mexico's foreign-based players like Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez and Villarreal's Giovani dos Santos because they were not in good form."

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

More info (including news conference videos in English translation - they play automatically in sequence):

Seems the players named today are the basis for the play-off games - but he will name his final selection after three friendlies (v Finland Thursday next week NZT and two friendlies v club sides):

http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1589373/mexico-squad-10-miguel-herrera-club-america?cc=3436

MEXICO SELECT DOMESTIC-BASED SQUAD

Newly minted Mexico coach Miguel "El Piojo" Herrera named 22 players, 10 of them from his Liga MX club, America, for El Tri's intercontinental playoff tuneup series that starts with a friendly Oct. 30 against Finland in San Diego.

Mexico will play three friendlies before its crucial World Cup qualifying playoff against New Zealand on Nov. 13 at Estadio Azteca, and Herrera said Sunday he will announce a new roster before the qualifiers.

Herrera said he picked players he already knows "so we can form a team as quickly as possible."

Sunday's roster includes America players Moises Munoz, Juan Carlos Valenzuela, Maza Rodriguez, Adrian Aldrete, Paul Aguilar, Miguel Layun, Juan Carlos Medina, Luis Mendoza, Jesus Molina and Raul Jimenez.

In addition to the 10 America players, Herrera's recall also includes Jesús Corona, Rafael Márquez, Carlos Peña, Lucas Lobos, Aldo de Nigris and Oribe Peralta, all of whom were part of El Tri under deposed coach Victor Manuel Vucetich.

Vucetich coached El Tri for the final two CONCACAF qualifying matches before the federation replaced him with Herrera, who will be Mexico's fourth coach in five matches.

There are no European-based players on the roster.

"We will only be calling up players who are committed to El Tri, there is no time to make substitutions. At this time we are thinking about two games," Herrera said Sunday, referring to Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela. "The players who don't want to be on El Tri won't be there. There isn't time to sit down and look for anyone."

El Tri will begin practices Oct. 22 and play a tuneup Oct. 26 against Mexican league team Altamira before its Oct. 30 friendly against Finland in San Diego.

On Nov. 3, the players will return to Mexico to train for a final tuneup Nov. 9 vs. Lobos BUAP.

Storm Roux, Central Coast Mariners confirms he's called-up to All Whites squad:

Great news after he had a second very good game on the weekend v Central Coast -  sound defensively and good going forward, getting some great crosses in: "   Nick Fitzgerald could have put the Mariners level in the 59th minute, however his shot from Storm Roux’s centre whizzed over Redmayne’s bar....The final ten minutes of the encounter were edgy, with both Arnold’s outfit and Aloisi’s boys keen on securing a late winner. Mariners left back Joshua Rose struck a shot from another Roux cross over the bar..."

On Roux's AW's call-up from the Aussie papers with quotes from Storm (Wednes.16):

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/impressive-young-mariners-defender-storm-roux-earns-new-zealand-call-up-for-crunch-world-cup-qualifiers/story-fnii0fc3-1226741249107

HE'S played just 116 minutes of A-League football and now Storm Roux has been rushed into New Zealand's squad for their crunch World Cup qualifier against Mexico.

The 20-year-old defender made his debut for Central Coast Mariners against Western Sydney on Saturday and played the full 90 minutes.

Roux's only other A-League appearance was off the bench for Perth last season.

Mariners coach Graham Arnold was so impressed with the young right back that he thought his performance against the Wanderers was worthy of the Man of the Match award.

Roux was also pleased with his first game and is excited he caught the eye of the All Whites.

"I've just been called up into the next qualifying game for New Zealand, so hopefully if I do well in the training then I can make my debut for them," Roux said.

"It will be home and away (against Mexico) and it will be a massive crowd because it's such an important game. Playing against word class opposition is only good for you and the chance of maybe playing in that game is exciting."
