The Road To Brazil 2014 via Wellington feat. Mexico

People were going WTF with Mexico only selecting local professionals, i wonder they would be saying about our selections.

Look at NZ's depth, its so poor, they have to pick players who cant even find an amatuer team to play for!!

JC up for the task.

Spain were fully aware of the enormous talents of JC in the Confederations Cup 2009 and had three men marking him at all times.
While everyone thought Ryan Nelsen was the unacknowledged secret coach of the 2010 All Whites, in reality JC was pullling the strings.
He actually prefers not to take the field so he has more time to think about the game and instruct Herbert on what to do...
He will single-handedly destroy Mexico - In fact, he wouldn't even need to do it himself. The earth itself would understand the will of the man, and swallow his victim whole for its master.

Not many people know this, but JC has been scientifically proven to be God. Here are a few other facts...

Jesus walked on water.

JC can swim through land.

JC can slam a revolving door.

JC slept through 9/11.

He was on the 73rd floor.

JC can get Blackjack with just one card.

Lightning never strikes twice in one place because JC is looking for it.

JC doesnt go at the speed of light, he goes at the speed of JC.
Jeremy Christie is not only a noun, but a verb.
JC can watch an episode of 60 minutes in 22 seconds.

JC once counted to infinity. Twice.

Only Wonder Woman can withstand his loving.

JC invented black. In fact, he invented the entire spectrum of visible light. Except pink. Tom Cruise invented pink.

JC won the World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoloy card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game UNO.

That's why he's in the All Whites squad - in fact, he selected the squad which was revealed to him in a dream and Herbert merely put his name to it...

Have to start IMO

Agree 100%
Constrained by what we know Ricki will certainly stick with re: 3 - 5 - 2 or 3 - 4 - 3 and his usual predilections, this is the best line-up we can hope for I think. Includes six primarily defensive players:
                                                                           Moss
                                                      Reid          Durante        Smith
                            Roux           Henderson         McGlinchey      Vicelich        Lochhead
                                                                Wood            Brockie
Because they're just returning from injury, Rojas and Smeltz should be saved for the Wellington leg.
Of the players in the above line-up, I think Wood, Brockie, Roux, Henderson, McGlinchey, Moss, Reid and Smith have all been playing well for their clubs recently. Durante's been okay too, while Vicelich is just starting his season and Lochhead doesn't have a club of course but Ricki always picks him (and we are short of left sided players).

The yellow card factor is why Christie is in the squad.

He can be sent on around the 70 minute mark to nail some poor Mexican, pick up a couple of yellows, maybe a straight red, and no one will give a fuck when he gets suspended. There are a couple of other players in the squad who could be used in this way.

Can't put all the blame on Herbert for Christie's selection, Vince Lia is partly to blame too.

What we should do is park the bus until 5 minutes left and then let Christie, Lochead, Fallon and Sigmund loose on their key players.

Herbert admitted on the radio today that some players were selected "due to many years of service". Have to say I'm a little worried what "service" Jeremy Christy provided, particularly if Herbert is still repaying him for it in 2013. Maybe it's on-going, one thing is for sure, it's not and never has been on the football field!

Same can be said about Lochhead.

Three for me, and two for them.

Storm Roux interview on his inclusion just up on the NZF website:

http://www.nzfootball.co.nz/index.php?id=11&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=2616&tx_ttnews[backPid]=10&cHash=1375f01fad

Having now graduated from the Junior All Whites into the full senior ranks, you could forgive the youngster for being a bit star struck, just happy to be part of a squad heading towards one of the biggest matches in the history of the game in New Zealand.

But Roux; speaking with a firm tone underlining the confidence and inner strength which has launched him into the limelight, has a much different view of his involvement in the squad to meet Mexico.

“Being part of the squad is one thing but I think that if you’re in the squad you shouldn’t be there to make up the numbers. I want to be pushing hard for game time.”

I can understand Lochhead. Noone else really around with Hogg out suspended.

But Christie? I can probably  name 5 other midfielders I'd rather have there.

I guess the upside is at least we are talking about who was left out. Last time we barely had 18 half decent players. Shows our depth is growing.

I would rather anyone but Christie.

Why not give that spot to Hicks, Rufer or Ridenton? At least they are professional players and are all young and promising talents. What is the point in picking Christie? Is he going to be starting or play a role in these games? If so, that is a huge worry. If not, then why give him a spot in the squad? He is literally an amateur player in more ways than one and will probably retire in a year or two. A crazy decision imo.

I would also seriously seriously consider starting Roux over Lochhead. Roux has looked very good at CCM so far. I know he is young and it is a risk, but is Lochhead better than Roux? Roux looks to be a tidy defender and is quicker than Lochhead, plus he is playing professional football whereas Lochhead will probably never play professional football again. I would also consider having Tuiloma start over Bertos.

Someone has to carry the drinks and drive the golf cart. Also, maybe  Herbert thought "I know, I'll put Christie in there because it will tie AW's supporters up for hours in fruitless discussions and complaints and thus deflect any attention from bigger problems."

Or else he reads these forums and just decided to piss us off....

Agree with all the comments above about him wasting space that could have gone to a more talented (Keat, Butler) or a young player for his development (Howieson, Rufer, Ridenton, Thomas).

I still don't see him getting near the pitch so I don;t get all of the angst. Yeah he should not be there but what is he, number 22 in the heap ahead of the 3rd keeper?

And then there is Payne and Killen. Bright (*cough* rubbish *cough*) has been used recently too so there is a pool there of players. I think Keat could feel agrieved considering he plays the same spot. I think Henderson has pinched Howiesons spot (looking at like for like positionally)

I see it's official now that all the All Whites players  + Smeltz will be available to play v Perth in Christchurch:

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/Phoenix-All-Whites-Cleared-to-Play-in-Christchurch/77835?utm_source=www.australianfootballprss.com.au&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=www.australianfootballprss.com.au

Smeltz especially needs a run out to gain match fitness and sharpness, me thinks...

5 pm kick-off now though
