This is quite impressive:

The live Sky Sports coverage attracted 476,100 viewers, AGB Nielsen figures show.

More than 300,000 Kiwis tuned in for the delayed One Sport coverage at 10.45pm.

Add in the 35K at the game plus people at pubs, big screen in Wellington etc and for live viewing it would be around 550,000. Plus the delayed coverage viewing numbers are just as impressive.

Well hopefully I'll be in SA so it won't matter ... But would prefer TVNZ, slightly preferred their commentary to Dewhurst.

I would imagine (HOPE!) that we will get one of the knowledgeable commentators from the international English feed.

I hope they can give internet coverage on their website to o'seas Kiwis, instead of the usual message blocking coverage due to broadcast rights on their site.....please. please..... that's right I have Astro Satellite TV so don't need to worry myself, but concerned about others out there  kiwiMalaysia422009-11-17 17:42:29

I'm sure John Key could stitch up a deal involving Sky, Tv3, Tv1, Prime, Tivo, Freeview, and The Rotorua Tourist Tv Channel

I was pretty disgusted with TVNZ's sports news item last Wed, which went along the lines of "Herbert better get the formation right or the All Whites will lose", with a negative tone suggesting they likely would.

Hopefully one of the results of this is that in future there will be at least one network that will consistently understand football a bit better and be more balanced.

get in there Mr.Key! lol

SC03, you were'nt alone i was rather disgusted with what they called a news item, it was completely negative. flicked over from a great tv3 item, flicked over to the most un-new zealand item. Why can't we just be NEW ZEALAND rather that n.z rugby vs n.z football.
Australia gets behind everything because they view it as  them vs us, not us vs us.

I actually preferred Dewherst over TV1 commentary.

After getting back to the hotel after the game (didn't go to Courtenay Place as I had to get up at 6am to get ferry back home) I watched TV1 coverage and it also seemed they didn't do the crowd justice by turning the volume way down.

What really pissed me off about the whole WC thing was that nobody at TV1gave a rats arse about the first leg qualifier and then suddenly the second leg was the greatest show on earth.

But the mega big, all time piss off was that the one week when football was in the limelight we had this barrage of media comment about "what does this mean for rugby" Article after article was focused on this crap....screw rugby. It had nothing to do with rugby. It was just about a group of young kiwis doing fabulously well on a world stage.

We can't even get a week where the media focus's on football. Now two weeks later its back to wall to wall rugby coverage with a few sniping negative comments about football(talking about TV1.....Tv3 has not been too bad).....lets face it there are some people in the sports department of TV1 who are anti football.

Now we hear that TV1 wants the WC TV rights....good grief!!!!   what, so they can ridicule the AW's performance.?
There is bugger all people at TV1 who  would be capable of any decent football perspective(mind you I thought Noah Hickey was great side line commenting at the match)

TV1 isnt all what it use to be now. I must admit sky arent even all that flash, there pre-match build up's and analyst after match leaves alot to be desired. But what can you do when this country only praises Rugby, Cricket and netball.

The best thing the AW's can do at the WC is be competitive, play there hearts out and hopefully win, upset a big playing nation and perhaps even progressing through to the 2nd stage.

Phoenix also have to perform well and hopefully make the finals this season. We have seen the warriors in rugby league build the sport and fan base here by making the finals afew years back. That's what Phoenix have to do. Football needs to earn a place at the table of Rugby, League, Cricket and Netball.

Thats my opinion anyway.

TVNZ ANNOUNCES COMPREHENSIVE MULTI-PLATFORM COVERAGE OF 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP

TVNZ will provide the most comprehensive multi-platform coverage of an event in its history when it rolls out its content and broadcast schedule for this years FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

22 LIVE games will be broadcast across TV ONE and TVNZ 7 during the tournament including all of the All Whites games, six of 8 second round matches, all of the quarter and semi finals, 3rd v 4th play-off and the FIFA World Cup Final.

NZ vs Slovakia, NZ vs Italy, NZ vs Paraguay will be broadcast LIVE and free-to-air on TV ONE with a streamed simulcast on tvnz.co.nz.  Each game will replay the same day in full on TVNZ 7.

The best action from every single game will be included in a comprehensive highlights package to air on both channels every day of play.  The highlights will screen on TV ONE in the lead-up to ONE News with a repeat at 11pm.  TVNZ 7 will broadcast them at 6:10pm.

We have chosen an initial schedule based on favourites and form but if theres an upset, an unexpected pairing or a crucial match as the knock-out stages unfold, we have the ability to alter our line-up accordingly that also allows for the possibility of the All Whites qualifying for the knock-out stage, says TVNZs General Manager of Sport Murray Needham.

NZ Radios 2010 Sports Presenter of the Year, Martin Devlin will anchor TVNZs coverage and will be joined in studio by experts throughout the tournament, Martin is one of the countrys most well known football fans and he has an extensive historical knowledge of the game including the World Cup.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the 10th to screen live on NZ television.  The final between host country West Germany & Holland (2-1) in 1974 was the first World Cup game to be transmitted live and in colour this years tournament will be the first on multiple platforms.

Its always such a phenomenally popular global event and with the All Whites there too we are determined to bring it to as many kiwis as possible in as many ways as possible on-air, online, Ondemand even on your phone.

The online offering across tvnz.co.nz includes a FIFA World Cup website, a dedicated All Whites microsite, a mobile site for results direct to internet capable phones and sport tipping plus a Twitter feed and an All Whites Facebook fan page.

An electronic calendar of TV ONE & TVNZ 7s broadcast schedule has been created and will be updated immediately if the schedule is amended.  Click on the links at the base of the page to see the schedule online at Google Calendars.
