I am not sure, but i am guessing the u17's wont be shown on our tv back home, however, it should be online at myp2p.
They showed the majority of the u20 games, so assuming someone is covering it, it should be on there for everyone.
I think the boys will do us quite proud, arguebly it is our strongest age group team yet with a few players already training and playing overseas and someother quality youngsters already attachd to and playing for NZFC teams.

Four best 3rd place teams, but i get your drift.
As for media coverage, i'm sure i saw something on the Herald website before (may of been Stuff). Also quite a bit on their warm up matches on NZ Football website.
Haven't heard anything but i imagine games will be showing. Well NZ games anyway.

Sky talked up the U20's from a way out but I've seen nothing on the U17's at all from them. I suspect it's bad news.

African sides tend to be quite good at these tournaments (mainly because they can field 25-year olds and no-one would know).

All jokes aside, though, if they don't know the D.O.B. of a player then surely, surely they can't play at an age group tournament, even if they look 12. So you'd think anyway.
And I can't see us getting much of a result against Turkey but Costa Rica and Burkino Faso maybe.

Good news, folks - 6.45am on Labour Day, NZ v. Costa Rica live on Sky Sports 1.
The other NZ matches will be on as well, and all matches from the quarter-finals on will be shown live on Sky too.
I wouldn't even contemplate watching the action on Ego TV (aka TV1) - unless you like your football punctuated by ad breaks, of course ... or was that your ad breaks punctuated by football?

Of course the national FAs have to provide birth certificates to show the age of the selected players, but the problem is that if you live in some God forsaken African village, births don't necessarily get registered until the kids are 3/4/5 years old. So the dates on birth certificates can be wildly inaacurate, and this has been a perennial problem for African age-group sides for a while.
There's some bone age tests that can be done to determine the actual physical age, but don't know if FIFA will make these compulsory.

Great to see that both tv 1 and sky ar showing the games. The more coverage our youth teams get the better for the game.
Kids and parents will see the great potential opportunities that the game offers.
I reckon we have a chance to progress this year. Football is getting alot more unpredictable, Argetina is average, an African team on the u20's, France didn't get direct qualification etc etc.

Yeah - at youth tournaments a lot of the senior power houses can be quite weak.

Very unlikely that Wood would have been released for this tournament by W Brom. Have a look at the England U20 team for the WC, genuine no names (some from non-league clubs)! These tournaments aren't rated, they prefer the European tournaments that are played in the off season

Maybe not so much "not rated" JD. It's just that these tournament are seen as launch pads for professional careers. If you're already a professional, why would you bother?
The ones that do bother are the ones who aren't getting a lot of game time at club level, so do it to get some matches in at a good level.
If you're an established pro getting time at your club then you'd probably give it a miss, and understandably so.

There can not be too many 17 year olds getting decent game time though for professional clubs.
Maybe one of the reasons some lower league players have made it into the squads (e.g. England) is becasue they are actually playing competively in a mens league, albeit at a lower level and can be scouted a little easier for selection?
Looking forward to the games, a nice precursor to the All Whites home leg.

Think JD and I were more talking about the U20s (I know this is the U17s thread).
U17 WC is a bit of a wacko tournament in many ways. Major countries often don't take it very seriously (England) and minor countries think it's a career launcher when it isn't really. U20s much more so.
Big deal for Kiwi kids though. Could lead to something, certainly gives them something good to put on their CV, provides match footage of them playing at a FIFA tournament that they can then use to promote themselves.

Yeah, the comment about the u17 WC not being taken serious is not that accurate. The u20 struggle more, especially as it is scheduled during the Eurpean season and clubs don't have to release players so no Wellbeck, Wilkshire etc. for England and at that age a few are representing national teams trying to qualify for the WC proper. At u17 age most players aren't affected by these issues and should be there.
