The Contender's on now so I assume it's abandoned.  I'll take a draw.

Can anyone with knowledge of previous world cups with only 24 teams tell me if 3 draws tended to be enough to qualify as one of the best 4 finishing 3rd placed teams?

In the last U17s WC, three teams finished with 3 points and were in 3rd place in their groups. Only one team made it through to the next round though, because they had a better goal record with -1.

So in theory it is possible to go through with 3 points if we come 3rd in our group and a goal diff of zero. It would have been enough in the last WC.

However could come 4th in our group with 3 points? its possible too.

Didn't realize Darren Bazeley was helping out with the U17s.

It is a very good result, after all this team has talked up their chances of winning the tournament having finished third at their last attempt.

Also they pushed Turkey all the way and they are a very solid team which has beaten some quality european competition to make the finals like England.

Although not happy with the our apparent waste of possession, i do hope this was a poor performance more than anything and also i think we will find it a little easier against Turkey who will be a little more organised but arguebly not as direct and fast paced with the ball, which by all accounts we struggled with.

Our back four must be impressing, only two goals conceeded despite us clearly being dominated. Also our keeper certainly should be getting looked at.

I guess you would have to hope for heavy rain in the first 20 minutes against Turkey for that to happen and the game to be called off.
Turkey will finish with 9 points, Burkino Fasa with 4 points, New Zealand with 2 and Costa Rica with 1.

Is the game still on?  There is nothing on the Fifa website saying that it was been washed out or anything.

Don't know what the final story is. Can't see it anywhere on the web.

We would get the one point for the nil all draw if it was abandoned. For us to get a draw out of it and to go through.

Looked like we had eight at the back, not four as our midfield has been very mobile.

According to the regulations for this tournament one of the functions of The FIFA organising committee is: 'deciding cases of abandoned matches'.
Not very helpful.
Is the match abandoned or delayed.

Lets hope Turkey win heavily against Costa Rica now and that Costa Rica and BF play out a draw.

Yes. Hard to see CR drawing with BF though.
Adam Thomas saved a certain goal and deflected it which hit the post and Coey tipped a ball over the crossbar on another. We also had a couple of half chances but no shots on goal.
The weather certainly improved our game and they managed to clear the water off the pitch.

From an attacking corner Gordon Murie had the chance to score but mis hit the ball as it scrambled around in the penalty area. That would have won the game for us. BF were clearly rattled in the last 25. Tim Pilkington came on at the commencement of play, Luis Esteves came on with about 15 to go and the last sub McVeigh came on in the last ten

Now that's dedication Ahmad!
For future reference (ie. game 3), is the FIFA live feed reliable? I didn't even know it existed!

In any case I prefer watching on a TV.

i have to say it didn't look like Murie made any contact with that freekick, but his run and attempted flick  on def helped put off the defence and keeper. great goal and result in the end for the  team

Must be a wet day in Nigeria as both the Cosat Rica v Turkey and Colombia v Iran games have been suspended due to torrential downpour.

How long did you have to wait before they resumed the NZ-BF game?  And was the rest of it televised?

About one hour afterwards and it was televised.

The captain of this team is useless. Any players who you think could get a youth contract with the nix? Coey Turipa looks like an awesome goal keeping prospect.

Clue: Take a look at the NZ football website pictures and you will see who will be there in 2011

Looks like Turkey and Costa Rica will have to replay their match.

On the current standing, I'm quietly hopeful that NZ will scrape through the stage with a bit of help from the Young Turks.
