Exactly right. The really sad thing is that the girls and their families read this forum. Bet they really appreciate these comments

We wondered about modding them Rightstr but at the end of the day at U20s you're not a kid any more and as a national representative you're going to get good and bad written about you.  That's life as an international footballer.

That's not to say that I disagree with you, although some of it was - in point of fact - funny.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

My apologies, but we still have the right to voice our opinion. The primary concern about Wood is that she didn't seem up to standard.....her weight was a side issue that people used to vent frustration. Not meant to harm anyone.

Only in relation to Park Life.

To be fair, 2ndBest, a kick in the nuts is funny when you put it next to Park Life.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Though for most of the game today she showed significant improvement from the last game. Have my questions about where her head was at towards the end. I may be wrong but it appeared in the last 15 mins she was more intent on slowing the play down too much, instead of keeping the team focused.

That being said all credit to the gals and to their coach. They definitely did us proud

The only thing I agree with in the posts from Smithy and BP is that she wasn't up to standard.

absolutely gutting result ... but still awesome progress made by the under-17s and under-20s - not sure many of us expected two wins and a draw from 6 world cup games just over a month ago!

Wasn't it another very late goal by Nigeria that stole the points off them in the 1st game?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Nah, it will be all good bro, we will get a England trade-mark late goal to go through

that was gutting, had an air or inevitability though. So disappointing for the girls.
a last minute goal conceded again - also if we hadnt conceded so many against chile we would have gone through.
Well done to the team - we would have settled for a draw & a win before teh tournament.
Future looks good for girls football in this country.

Yeah, but we all know that they'll uphold their proud English tradition by losing on penalties to somebody at the business end of the Comp.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Nope.

Nigeria got 7, England 5, Us 4, Chile 0.

GD didn't come in to it at all.

That did seem almost inevitable. Great effort, but like many other NZ teams we dont hold onto possesion when we need to - hence the endless wave of attacks in the last 20 (albeit we were down to 10). They were technically better than us. Great to see an NZ side able to score goals though and a good showing overall.

Thanks to Rightstr for bagging the comments re Wood. They were only funny if you revel in other people's humiliation, which is what she would have felt if she ever read them or heard similar remarks from anybody else. I think we should be moderating that stuff and am disappointed in mysefl for not doing so. I cringed each time I read one of them. I thought she played very poorly against Chile, but not bad today. Taking the p!ss out of an 17 year old amateur female footballer about her weight  is not the same as getting stuck into a professional footballer - and even then its marginal when your comments extend too far beyond performance.

As one of the guilty parties, I take those comments on board and apologise for any offence I may have caused.

However, can I ask if any similar comments made about NZ players, I can think of one goalkeeper in particular as an example, will be moderated? Or if similar comments made about members of this forum, for example, would be moderated?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Law of averages. You had to win one eventually!

I have to agree with Smithy, I hate to reach for the call of reverse sexism but I don't think many people would be up in arms or shocked if a 19 year old man representing his country was labelled fat as a method of venting anger at a poor performance.

Absolutely gutted.....great effort from the girls though. We were in trouble when the skipper got sent off. England were all over us in the last 20. We just needed to hold onto the ball.
Why is that NZ teams seem to always concede in the last minutes?

Yeah...stop picking on the goalie size. She has a big heart to match!!!!

Actually I could not believe she was not subbed with 10mins to go. She was hobbling badly. Why would you keep an injured goalie on when you are under the pump, hanging on to a small lead. I also would question why the coach did not sub off Percival when she was on one card and the game won against Chile? End result second card and NZ lost their best player for this match.

On the plus side NZ can really compete at this level. Perhaps there is more of a case for NZFA's limited resoures to go more towards the women game in NZ.We have the players....with the right support these girls will make a final one day.

Further to the point everyone bagged David Batty for being a porker. Not 19 but still...

Before someone points it out I too was/am a largish keeper. Fat kids represent!

Dave Batty is still far too good a player to take the piss out of.

I think it's a disgrace that this poor fellow, who obviously has an uncontrollable addiction to doughnuts, should be subjected to this sort of personal abuse. Just because poor Mr News has a problem with his feet, in that he can't keep them out of the fish and chip shop, doesn't excuse this sort of thing. The psychological effects could be devastating, Mr News could suffer appalliing and distressing symptoms such as weight loss and loss of appetite. I know Mr News likes to keep in shape, it's not his fault that it's the shape of a sack of potatoes. Smithy, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'm sorry for any offence caused by poking fun at the goalkeepers weight.
However, I would hope she reads it and it triggers a disciplined weight loss programme so she will be back in a few years leaner and meaner for the senior womens world cup.

Obesity is a choice, its not a disease.
Educate yourself on how to lose weight, be disclipined and cut out self-endulgance.
I did it.
