We've got a few Fever Zoners among players and staff with this lot, as well as lot's of local players. Thought folks might like a re-post of some of Smithy's updates.
The Ole Academy U19s opened their tour up with a win against top flights local club side United FC 6-3.
United FC's U17 team are a Premier outfit here in SoCal and have a bunch of players who will be looking to place in D1 Colleges next August.
It was hot. We were quality. The game was very tight in the first half, with the scores tied 1-1 at half time. In the second half we found our pace though and overran them. They were a year or two younger than our boys on average, but on the flip side they were used to playing in the 25 degree heat. Sounds balmy, actually stifling. A good hit out to kick off with.
Goals to: Blackburn (13',50'), Chettleburgh (52'), Tozer (70'), McLay (86') and Own Goal.
This afternoon we head inland to play the regional champions from that part of the country.
Not the real Barca, the Californian one.
But still a really good team, including a number of players on the American ODP (Olympic Development Program). We won 2-0, goals to Tozer (who was superb all day!) and Eager (pen).
That win has got us noticed. The coach of that team is the Men's coach at an NAIA university called Vanguard that we visited today and he has been really impressed.
We also impressed the assistant coach at University of California, Irvine, who watched us play yesterday. We visited there today also.
Everyone well, no super-serious injuries, everyone playing well and enjoying themselves.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
We played Chivas U18s yesterday and played out a nil all draw. The Chivas team has three lads in the American U17s squad (apparently - I have names here but haven't checked).
It was a great game played in 30 degree head on the artificial surface you can see above. Both teams had chances (they hit the cross bar off a free kick, their keeper made a stunning 1 v 1 save against Richie McLay).
Also worth mentioning is that the refereeing was fantastic. We should hire these guys for big games in NZ!
Oh and Nick "The Robsled" Robson got a straight red for a shocker.
Great game though and a number of our players are covering themselves in glory. Plenty of coaches watching too - UNC, USF, Florida...
More updates to come. Today we play Vanguard (a top NAIA university) and then tomorrow we play the equivalent U18 LA Galaxy team to the Chivas team we played yesterday.
And no, Frankie, I'm not playing. The other coaching staff have had a bit of a run though. Jamie Mason's brain almost exploded when we subbed on World Cup 2002 superstar Tony Sanneh beside him. That was balaned out a bit when we subbed on Nick van Hattum at right back though.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

In hot conditions on an uneven surface the goals came to Nick "The Robsled" Robson (2), Mike Eagar (pen) and Tony Wall.
This afternoon the boys play the local favourites Del Mar Sharks. A few knocks from this morning (McLay got clattered to win the pen, Blackburn stood in a hole and rolled his ankle) might limit minutes for some players but overall the squad is in good health.
Coach Winkel will be on Andrew Dewhurst's Total Football Show tonight with a bit of an update.
Most excitingly there has been a lot of interest in the players from Colleges across the US. Some of the boys are already actively discussing offers with schools, which is fantastic.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Is this a NZ Soccer initiative or a privately organised tour?
If private, then its so cool to see someone trying to seek opportunities for our youngsters...(where the real future of our game lies).....its gotta be better than whats coming out of Albany HQ these days!
Some of those lads on the playing list are quite handy!
Charemois: actually a Mike Wilson initiative - supported by Ole/DW to keep the cost down for the boys. Players paid only $575 inc gst for their 2 weeks (almost) here.
It's a great initiative and the Ole are planning to do it annually to open the door to the Colleges for these kids a bit wider. Fingers crossed we get a bunch placed on the back of their success here. There's no doubt that many are good enough.
We play FC Fusion (GREAT name) tomorrow in the semis.
Some photos going up as I get time: www.photobucket.com/olesoccer
Caught up with Andy Hemmerich here last night - anyone remember him from Wests a few years back?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Boys were a bit gutted but it was a really good game and we achieved what we came here to achieve - lots of players getting seen by lots of coaches.
Looking forward to getting home!
BTW would this have been New Zealand's first international win against Brazil ;-) ???

Stoked that our up and comers are getting the chance to showcase their talent and hopefully get the placements. Recently caught up with a highschool mate who's playing at Marshall and she's loving it!!!P.S. Bob, classic avatar, was a vacuum required?
