It was exclusive on TV3 news so NZF have followed with a press release


Possible theories:

Ricki was always going to resign but did not want to put the focus on him so did the old 'we'll see' line.

Ricki decided he wanted a send off

Something happened this afternoon whereby Ricki basically said "stuff you" and resigned or NZF said "stuff you, you are gone". After all, he has been relatively defiant about staying on.

Ricki was told a while back that he was not going to be kept on and its only just come out now.

The board have listened to him in the last few days in the press and decided "Enough"

As someone else mentioned, this was not his team that he would pick. Has he been told to pick this side and not happy about it?

Even Ricki has had enough of NZF and said "4 more years? No thanks"


Either way, the timing is way way strange.
