Just heard it's been called off because we can't field a team. Mulligan withdrew and that was the last straw. The players have to take the bulk of the responsibity for this. They want games, they get games, they withdraw. Selfish bastards.

Thinking further on this, I feel that NZF had no option but to withdraw, and have made a brave move. They'll take some flak over it, which is unfair, and I hope they turn it back on the players. I'm reading about the "long, hard season" they just had - too bloody bad, it's their job and they are being paid a lot (in most cases) to do it. For a lot of them their AW credientials at least in part have got them pro contracts and they should remember this.

Oh dear, not good news at all, but to be honest it would have been another thrashing, I'm just waiting for the OFC qualifiers when we will see all our players hopefully! and we will get some wins!

Good point. A number of players overseas would have only got their work permit because of their All Whites appearances. Even the ones who didn't need a work permit certainly had their CV (and  DVD) enhanced by their All Whites appearances, without which many agents and clubs wouldn't take much notice.

A few crying off is maybe understandable but over half of a first team squad is ridiculous.

I just wonder how much the lack of commitment to their country actually reflects a lack of commitment to the coach or the management? Even then it is f**king unprofessional and something you just wouldn't expect to see from other countries.

i'd say the big positive is the money saved. 10 days inbetween fixtures for 25 people? that wouldnt have been cheap.

still sad to see it go..........

Sometimes in the professional arena, three months notice is not enough.  The European nations seem to have their games scheduled 3 years ahead.  Still very disappointing.   We desperately need an All Whites "season".

Unless the players and NZ federation commit themselves totally they will never get on the world stage.

Just heard Billy Harris talking about this on the radio and he didn`t even know if we played a South Amercian or Asian team to qualify for the world cup.  Assuming we win the Oceania section.

Hasn't officially been decided has it? I know all the talk is about us going the last round of Asian qualifying but don't if that's been finalised.
