I think you could assume that if Ufuk got the job NZF and the nix would be pushing for the a-league to break for the fifa windows.

Not sure why it takes so long to make a decision though, 13th January! thats 3 weeks after the interview.
No one is in the office to monitor the fax machine!

I'm not a fan of Ufuk for the NZ role.  His systems take a long time to bed in.  Time is not something you get at international level.

Perhaps they are waiting to announce the new coach, new Technical Director and 2 home AWs games for March all at the same time.

And importantly have the new coach & TD both present in NZ (they could currently be both overseas), for a shiny media press conference. With the Black Caps in Pakistan/India, and Super Rugby yet to start - should get some nice media coverage mid Jan.

If the announcements are made now just prior to Xmas, alot less fanfare.

And re Talay as AWs coach, I initially thought it could work okay with AWs basically having the presumably easy OFC qualification path for WC 2026. But with reflection, if we want the AWs to maximise the potential this young squad has, plus Pragnell is promising games nearly every window this cycle - yes you want a coach that is fully focused on the 1 job.

The AWs coach has so little on grass time with the players, so he and his staff have got to be super prepared (all the analysis done etc) before each camp, so they don't waste a minute when the team do get together. That was definitely an issue for Ricki in that 2010-2013 cycle, including Horror in Honiara, and getting smashed at the Azteca. Very ill prepared.

Pragnell has said that there is alot more work involved with the AWs role, than just turning up to coach the team. That's highly likely true, and a cue to NZF's thinking about the position you'd guess. Surely Buckingham's time now, if he has applied.
