Always possible. Hopefully they follow suit. Im getting sick and tired of all this inter-code segregation though, if the idea was put forward i dont see any reason why they wouldnt want to.

Because they're just looking to make some money out of it and pretend they care about our game.

It's cringeworthy.

However they are hosting the 82' AWs players as well and making it newsworthy.

There are plenty of intersport support around the coaches and various codes. The other day I was asked to attend a Rugby League coaching/training workshop, despite being an association football coach, to explore different coaching strategies/approaches.

Tim Brown was consoled by Stephen Fleming after his injury.

Ricki Herbert (with Roy Keane) attended the Graham Henry's training sessions as part of the UEFA Pro-Licence assessment.

All the top coaches and sportsmen from various codes do get together at certain annual awards, etc and sometimes work is part of the talk.

Being a small country, we get to know each other. There is only a few sports, that I don't know someone in and mostly they are individual type sports.

Everyone knows how important this is to football. Even Keven Mealamu swap tops with Ryan Nelsen the other day.

As much as we strongly prefer AWs over ABs or any other codes, you have to give them (i.e. The Warriors) that they are promoting the AWs brand to crowds of their own sport.

They might seem to be bandwagoning, but this cross fertilization between sports has been around for a long time since at least the early 90s. Nowadays with people attending various high sport academy courses at tertiary institutions, the sports meet and exam, for an example, new aspects of the physical conditions of an athletic.

Even the Germany World Cup Squad was taken through certain Rugby drills with Jonah Lomu as part of the mental preparation against the Australians.

It happens everywhere else and not just here. Australian has those academy institutions (one of which Smeltz himself was trained in) which has youths from various codes getting the same type of advice of development and preparation while able to be a student.

So I don't understand your cringeworthy feel.

I don't think it's cringeworthy at all. How do you know they don't care about our game? I know a lot of league fans who aren't that interested in football but watched the game the other night. It's a New Zealand team going to play on the highest stage possible. If people from other codes choose to celebrate that, for whaever reason, why not. If it brings attention to football, then it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

Was the Phoenix doing PR stuff with the Hurricanes cringeworthy?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

When have the Warriors ever shown an interest in promoting football in this country before we made the World Cup?

Yep...

Why should they? Why would they?

Of course they're doing it to make money, why not. They're a business. It shows the strides that football has made that the Warriors would even consider doing it. To be honest, I can't see it putting 10,000 on the gate because the 82 All Whites will be trundling round the park before the game.

Of course, other codes could just completely ignore it and we could all just carry on getting on our high horses about how the achievements haven't been recognised, and how it's our sport so we don't want anybody else to hijack it.

I go to see the Warriors at every home game, so should I clamber onto the moral high ground and boycott this game?

Because people need support most when they are down. It's easy to jump on the back of something or someone successful. It's not so easy to be there for someone during a low point of their life.

Is that their excuse for selling a ton of different jerseys? They're a business. It's not ripping less fortunate people off, it's all business.

That isn't what i was suggesting at all.

I think its fantastic. I'm not naive enough to think that the Warriors don't think they will draw a higher crowd from it, but so what? I think its great that another sporting organisation has jumped on the bandwagon to support the All Whites.

I think its well done to the Warriors, both for recognising the AWs and showing their support in their WC bid..
..AND for recognising the business opportunity that is surely there to attract supporters of both codes.

And good on ya Buffy for stirring it up on this thread. I might not agree with you but you certainly make us think about the proposition a little more.

Just curious, have you posted that opinion in any of the EPL threads.

Jag = Warriors season ticket holder. So I'll be there anyway. I'll do my best to try and struggle past all the "how dare you have anything to do with the All Whites" protesters on the way in.

So am i not allowed to respond when someone decides to try take the piss out of me on here anymore? Hardly a fair system.

I'll probably get called arrogant and all that jazz (immune to it anyway :), but you blokes should be happy about this, as if the other major football codes here would do that for the Socceroos. I've responded to aikenmike on 4-4-2 as well, but yeah, the contrast between the 2 countries is different in that respect is big - the AFL board (especially) and the NRL & ARU boards (more than likely) would not do this for an Australian-based match.

Can some of you now see that we have an internal battle to promote the game over here?

I think its great! Simon Mannering will look HOT in white....Sure, its jumpoing on the bandwagon, but at the same time its promoting football to a group who would perhaps otherwise not take any interest.  To be 100% honest, and risk being blasted, I never used to pay much attention to the football til the Phoenix came to town and probably would have only had a passing interest in the World Cup if the All Whites hadn't made it.  now I'm heading to South Africa to watch them play....I don't even know if I make sense but oh well

End of an era.  Vinnie - It's over.
