I'm not so sure Wellington's inclement weather will make a huge difference to the game, but there's a fair bit of interest in it.  I often need to roughly predict the weather a week out, and you can start to get an idea, which gets more accurate as the time approaches.  I use metservice.co.nz & metvuw.co.nz; I'll update this druing the coming week for those interested.

No promises!

Prevailing conditions: Sou' Wester/Southerly
Chance of rain: 80%
Wind: Medium to Very Strong
Temperature: Low
Confidence of prediction: Medium to low

Situation: Southerly hitting South Island midday Friday with heavy rain up the west coast.  Medium to low confidence of heavy rain wanings for South Westland on Friday.  Front likely to hit Wellington on Saturday morning or afternoon, with stronger wind, low temperatures and rain.  Front may clear Wellington by 2000hrs, but gut feeling at this stage is that it'll be rubbish weather.

Good work. Is that favourable to us? I also need 6 winning Lotto numbers and the correct powerball no. for 14 Nov. Can you help me with this?

Metservice has a 7- and 3- day rain forecast

http://www.metservice.co.nz/public/maps/rain-forecast-7-day.html

Currently not at 8 pm Sat 14 Nov.

3-day forecast is obviously better.

I don't think the weather is that much of a factor.
Having said that, some wind would be favourable to NZ more so than Bahrain.

Well it determines if I bring a parka or a warm jacket.

well, if - as our middle-East correspondent suggests, the Bahrainians are spending training time squirting each other with hoses and playing in puddles, it might have already had an effect

If at this time next week we are talking about who will be the other 3 teams in our Group for 2010, then I don't care what the weather was like the night before!

Both extremes don't really matter. A sunny day (e.g. for the Beckham game) would be fitting as you can't beat Wellington on a good day. Conversely, sleet and rain would add a bit extra to the atmosphere. Imagine if we are singing in the rain while we are beating Bahrain!

The weather won't take away from the fact that this is a huge day for NZ Football

It's looking a whole lot better now. The front coming up the country looks like it won't get much past the Strait, and then later than Saturday night.

Still a sou'wester, but approaching Sunday morning.
Rain: Unlikely - 20%
Wind: Medium to strong
Temp: Low
Confidence: Medium

It's nice to play in an atmosphere more than great, as indicated by all expectations
Temperature not less than 13 degrees, clear sky, wind medium speed, this atmosphere is ideal for playing football
I hope to continue to be

You need to experience a good old Wellington Southerly, wind chill factor about -25. And dont bother with an umbrella, longevity length? About 15-25 seconds.

a good typhoon thursday would be nice. And a big fog could be alright. What was that? The Bahranis arrive that day? And the airport would be closed? Oh damn that wouldn't be ideal. And imagine the wakeup call when they have to circle Wellington Airport for hours with crazy winds and turbulence.

But in all seriousness, a chilly wind would really be great

I wish safety for all and not get anything wrong for any one.
Can I ask this question ...
Strong winds, for the benefit of New Zealand, or for the benefit of Bahrain?
Think calmly

When was the last time Bahrain played in cold, wet, and windy conditions? And did they win? :)

New Zealand's changing weather is nothing new to the All Whites team. I would suggest that Bahrain will not be used to such cold wet weather.

A real howling cold southerly the day they arrive and during their first training session would be absolutely ideal. See if our weather can put them in a bad head space coming into Saturday!

Expand to include Thurs/Fri as well as Sat?  I could pull some info together.  Better than going crazy with anticipation...

As has been repeated ad nauseum here, Bahrain have had to play in places like Iran, Uzbekistan, Japan, etc, in winter, where it gets very, very cold - colder than here. And they've had success in those type of conditions.

So can we please drop all this weather talk, these are professional footballers we're talking about, it's not that big of a deal.

i suppose the only weather conditions that would upset them would be a howling gale....but I would rather the day be cool and calm. If we have to rely on the weather then we are Ferked.
From a fans point of view the whole day would be even more amazing if it stays dry....the buildup down town, the long walk to the park..them match its self. If it pisses down then it makes it miserable...especially for a game that will finish at 10pm

Cannot believe they are training in Sydney. Did they even do research about the contrasting climates?

You make a good point, only place they could have maybe gone was Hobart. But then you have to fly via Melbourne to Wellington.

There is no guarantee that Hobart wouldn't have a few 32-39c days either..

Whats wrong with Auckland?  I think they have over estimated the hype, and  therefore not wanted to expose their players to a hostile environment too soon. They could easily have crusied into Auckland at the weekend, and yes there would be some interest, but really, it still would have been a better build up than sunny 26 degrees in Sydney. Still , their call, and  it might notbe a huge factor for professionals, but I think their build up is not optimal.

Hi
The reason is simple in going to Sydney, the team played in Sydney with Australia in the past two years, four times, and they have full knowledge of the location of crew training and that helps in Australia, such as transportation, housing and meals.
Coach and the players indifferent to temperature and rain, they was played earlier in a similar atmosphere, the main goal, to cope with the time difference, and increase the supply of fitness, and stay away from mass media pressure from the media of New Zealand.

Greetings to you
