since i am not nz , and  i want u in a  world  cup,  after  28  years,

and you know the background of  your domestic  amd  international  players..since the manager of the team is the manager  of  the national team too

which  players  will call  up herbert  to  win this  away/home   playoffs

i do not think that  the manager   will change  a lot about  the panel that was  selected for the conf cup .
that  is  not sensible football,  anyway the main problema that nz had  in conf cup was  the  midfield

tim brown  is a good player  but  only as a holding midfielder, the problem is that he is not fast  enough  he needs  some  help in the centre  and    simon elliot  is more of  a creative player  ,  even at  35 years old

as  i said before this games u need to win them  with patience,  and  stretegy.,   against a fast  team that can break u at the back  u  need  cohesion  between defence an midfield  i mean a team building  that  was  the problem  in  those  3  games

is not a game for young players, because they can get a red card,  in this games, but for experienced  players

i would like to know from u  which goalies will be call  up, since  moss is suspended for the games., ??

my team without the  golkeeper  , and based  on the players that i saw  from u will be

sigmund/boyens    vicellich    nelsen     lochhead/old

       mullligan/oughton      brown

                        simon elliot
james/mc glinchey                        bertos

                       killen/smeltz/fallon

plus

woods/scott/bright/ and any  midfielder  since  brockie is injured

a  4-5-1  that can convert into a  4-3-3     small players like  mulligan/mc glinchey/elliot / oughton james/bertos    are  VERY MUCH NEEDED  FOR  THIS 2  GAMES ,   to match up the physique  of  an  ARABIAN GUY.

if herbert is smart enogh he will notice that  big  slow players  will be more important  vs an african team or european team like germany style or  holland / serbia

This would be my squad:

Goalkeepers:
Paston*
Imray/Bannatyne??

Defenders:
Sigmund*
Boyens

Vicelich*
Lochhead*
Old
Scott

Midfielders:

Brown*
James
McGlichey*
Bertos*
Mulligan
Christie
Barron

Strikers:

I don't think I have left any important players out. Starting 11 players have stars next to them.

i think on the above list i would drop jarrod smith for kris bright,  as come the qualifiers hopefully kris has had a bit of playing time with shrewsbury town and he has been in recent all white squads. Dont think smith has or will get much game time in the Mls?

Not sure about Barron, but can't think of anyone to replace him with.

its a good squad of players though, probably best we have ever had to choose from with in inclusion of fallon and mcglichey to bolster our depth.

If we build it, they will come...

Smith was released from his MLS squad I don't know enough about Bright so I didn't include him.

I believe that it is 23 players in a WC final squad. I think that it is the same for a WC qualifying squad.

The 2009 WCQ squad is looking to be stronger than the 1981 WCQ squad on paper. Firstly they are basically all professionals footballers with more time on the ball, secondly some has experience playing at a very decent level. It would be so disappointing if they don't get though to the WC finals.

Everythings going to be All White for McGlinchey
Wednesday, 19 August 2009
by Glen Lauder
Michael McGlinchey
Central Coast Mariners / John Dewberry Central Coast Mariners

Less than a month ago, Michael McGlinchey was without a club after being let go by Scottish Premier League giant Celtic at the end of last season. Today, the diminutive midfielders life couldnt be more different to what it was when he left Parkhead, after winning a call up to the New Zealand National team.

McGlinchey signed a two year deal with the Central Coast Mariners just before the start of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season on the back of impressive trials against Gold coast united and Wellington Phoenix, and has been a standout performer in the Mariners opening two fixtures of the season.

That form has been justly rewarded today, with All Whites coach Ricki Herbert naming the Wellington-born 22-year-old in his 18-man squad for a friendly against Jordan in Amman on Wednesday, 9 September, subject to FIFA approval.

"Its a great honour," McGlinchey said.

"Obviously I grew up in Scotland and represented at Under 20s level, but I was born in New Zealand and I just hope I can get on the park and do a good job for Ricki.

"I cant thank (Mariners Football Manager) Lawrie (McKinna) enough. Hes been great and gave me a chance to come over here and prove what I could do. I know Im good enough, and Im just looking forward to repaying the faith hes shown in me by representing the Mariners well when I play for New Zealand," McGlinchey said.

McGlinchey, who was born in the New Zealand capital while his father Norman was playing for Lower Hutt, moved back to Scotland when he was a baby, before progressing through the ranks at Celtic, making his first team debut against Livingstone as an 18 year old in 2005.

Now enjoying life on the other side of the world, McGlinchey now finds himself just two matches away from representing his homeland on the worlds biggest stage.

"If I can get on and do well in Jordan hopefully Ricki will look at me for the (World Cup) playoffs (against either Bahrain or Saudi Arabia), and who knows after that. As a wee lad you grow up watching the World Cup and its what every footballer wants to be a part of.

"If New Zealand can qualify over the two legs and I could get on the plane to South Africa then it would be a dream come true. But I cant get ahead of myself, hopefully get on and do well in Jordan, and continue doing well for the Mariners," McGlinchey said.

Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna has paid tribute to his new signings progress.

"Hes been fantastic from the very first day he joined us, he fits in to the squad well on and off the park, and its a good reward for him.

From our fans forum a thread about McGlinchey .. he has made a huge impression

Bad news about Chris James- I've just found a news report on the Tampere United website in Finland which says he had knee surgery last week and won't be back in training at Tampere for 4-5 weeks at best. Guess that rules him out of any further All Whites matches this year, barring a miraculous recovery. You have to feel for the guy. Ricki would have known about this when naming his squad.
Apparently, he's been troubled by an injured knee for a while (no full movement, stiff and in pain) and he went under the knife last week. He'll be on crutches for a while and sounds like it'll be a while before he's match-fit again.
