What about Guardiola from Auckland (via Colombia but now a NZ citizen)...looks a bundle of energy in the midfield.
Who do we want to see in a white shirt?
I'm surprised he's picked up multiple National League gigs myself, has never looked particularly good at doing much more than winning soft free kicks to me.

yeah nah, got a long way to go before even being considered - was actually surprised that Auckland City picked him up. I remember seeing him play for the Nelson Falcons in the Youth league and he looked great, but he hasn't really changed much since then
At this stage I'd be happy to see almost anyone in a white shirt - I just want a game and a team to support!

Probably better on the ball and nowhere near as quick, but I get what you're getting at.

so nothing like him then.
less than 2 months until our first game - apart from obvious ones like McCowatt, who do we see getting called up? Mata? Just? Bell?
i'd like to see Dan Morgan, McGarry and Tavano (sounding like a broken record at this point, the way i'm pushing him) get their debuts
Are we selecting a C side? We'd be better off taking last season's U-20 side than calling up the likes of Morgan and Tavano.
To answer the question, XI warm bodies
Here's an opening 22 assuming all players fit and available:
Marinovic, Woud, Crocombe
Reid, Smith, Boxall, TAHW, Fenton, Libby, Wynne, Doyle
Rufer, Payne, Thomas, Bell, Lewis
Wood, Barbarouses, Singh, Rojas, de Jong, McCowatt
Standby: McGarry, Elliot, Brockie, Collier, Mata, Just, Inghams
With the the USL/MLS seasons over by November (leagues that don't stop for FIFA windows) this should be very close to a full strength AWs squad, ie unless injured all available
Don't expect any Handy Prem level players to be picked.
LBs/LWBs will likely be Cacace & McGarry. Wynne has been injured for a few months now. Morgan is probably a chance (albeit small) now that he is playing pro football. Kyle Adams can play there also.
Probably depends whether Hay wants to experiment with a few guys, he may know little about (Adams, Musa, Collier, N Boxall, Kirwan etc - even Themi) - esp in the 2nd game verus Lithuania. He has all the A League/Handy Prem seasons to watch those based downunder, and see up close.
Possible 1st XI verus Eire.
Marinovic
Fenton, M Boxall, Smith, Cacace
Tuiloma, Thomas, Joe Bell
Rojas, Singh, Wood
Bench/squad - Woud, Tzanev, Brotherton, Mcgarry, Roux, Rufer, Musa, Lewis, Just, McCowatt, Barba, Collier
Assumed injured/not ready - Reid, Wynne
Dylan Fox once he's been here long enough to qualify!
He has been poor in almost every goal the Mariners have conceded this year. Not a chance.
I'm going to rock the boat and say Ridenton doesn't deserve an AW callup. He's playing in a wooden spoon team and has hardly excelled. I really fail to understand the hype behind him.
He's a 21 year old kiwi midfielder footing it at a professional level. We don't have many, especially many young guys, doing that.
I think Stensness is doing far better at the Mariners - Talay must be regretting losing him. It's difficult to see the reason for Ridenton's call at all.
I think this might be the strongest All Whites XI with everybody fit and available. Right back still a weak spot for me but once back from injury Ingham might be the best bet over Roux/Fenton/Payne. If not you could put Boxall at RB with Smith or Tuiloma starting at CB and move Pijnaker or Brotherton to second choice CB. I'd have Waine over Mata/De Jong/Collier as well, just offers more and has a higher ceiling I think. Definitely think that Lewis, Stensness and Musa deserve a go in the squad, they've all got to be improvements on Rufer, Ridenton and WeeMac. Overall not a bad team and could look fairly strong once some of the key younger players have developed some more.
pretty much this but two glaring players need to be changed
Ingham and McCowatt
Rojas has it all over the later
In terms of the former he shouldn't be near the side
Place Boxall at right back and bring smith into the centre of the defence
Then that's not a bad team

I’d drop Woud from the squad and bring in either Sail or Crocombe.
Can someone who has actually paid for the NZH tell me who the ranked and where for the top 10 NZ teenage football talents.
Not looking for a copy paste, just the list.

10. Ebbinge
9. Sutton
8. Garbett
7. Paulsen
6. Stanger
5. Stamenic
4. Mata
3. Waine
2. Just
1. Cacace
Personally, I'd go...
1. Cacace
2. Just
3. Stamenic
4. Waine
5. Mata
6. Garbett
7. Sutton
8. Strong
9. Paulsen
10. Conroy
Stensness/Woud too old for the list?
I agree with 4 of the top 5, but only because I don't know Stamenic.

You will soon enough.
List is limited to 2000-born players (those who have turned 19 this year) and younger.
Stensness/Woud are 1999-born, like Bell, McCowatt, Pijnaker, Singh – those six get a mention at the bottom of the piece. As you can probably see for free, the context for the list is 'who is the next Sarpreet Singh?'
Split up by birth year – the 10 names mentioned by them (unfortunately it doesn't say which NZME scribe's list it is) and the two others by me.
2000: Cacace, Just, Mata, Stanger
2001: Conroy, Ebbinge, Sutton, Waine
2002: Garbett, Paulsen, Stamenic, Strong
Honestly wouldn't mind another round of domestic callups from the national team - Hay seems like they type to give shots to the Slotemakers and Messengers of this world.

Outside World Cup qualifiers, Hay will actually have very few windows now, before the March 2022 Intercontinental playoffs - to tinker, and bed in his top side. He will also have to do without the valuable Confeds Cup as prep.
I doubt many if any domestic players will get a look in over the next few years. Hudson and even Schmid did plenty enough experimenting.
Sounds like from some of AV's comments, that most of the first choice players, will be expected to make themselves available for friendlies in these windows up to March 2022. With likely case by case exceptions of the 'elite' like Wood, Reid and Thomas - who will have more flexibility esp if their clubs are trying to make Europe (PSV) or avoid possible relegation (Hammers, Burnley).
Any international coach gets very limited time with his players, esp the AWs boss. Therefore don't see Hay deviating much now from the guys picked last November. Some future INS will likely be Wynne, Billingsley (RB), Lewis, Musa etc.
Anyone new who picks up a pro contract overseas, could jump onto that list - anyone who stays in the Handy Prem at long odds.
Of course the upcoming Nations Cup is yes one time, when someone like Brock Messenger could get a look in. But I'm not sure if shining against the Island nations in Auckland in June, will tell Hay much about a player.
Ahmad Othman
Thank's for posting Ahmad's mum.
Did I see something saying Hay is actually looking at Tavano? Surely that would be justification for sacking him, bloke is playing in latin america but at a level below Northern Premier League. It would be Dyeresque.
Ahmad Othman
surely a shout for the Olympic squad if eligible. only came to NZ in his mid teens
and I love how people are forgetting how brilliant Tavano was at ACFC. Nobody complained about Pijnaker getting relegated to the Swedish fifth tier when he was called up
Not actually true but at least he's 19 making his way, Tavano is 26 so should be at his peak but is playing in backwater leagues at a lower standard than winter amateur football in Auckland. Fine if he wants to see the world and experience it, but to call him up from those levels?
You may as well call up players from Kiwi FC in London.
Also, never thought he was any sort of world beater for Auckland, was a passenger in many games I watched.
Fair enough on your judgement of Tavano's ability, don't think he's good enough for the All Whites but worth a shot. Though, he's playing in a CONCACAF Champions League team in a nation with a similar strength to the AWs for a team that's won 11 of the last 15 titles

You sure on that? There's no Nicaraguan teams in the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League.
As for the strength of the Nicaragua national football team, here are their last 3 results from November 2019:
Nicaragua 0 Cuba 1
St Vincent and Grenadines 2 Nicaragua 1
Nicaragua 1 Suriname 2
In the last 12 months they've also lost to Bermuda, and got humped 6-0 by Suriname. But they did beat Barbados 1-0 in an absolute nailbiter, and managed to get past Dominica both home and away, so there is a bright spot or two I guess.

sort of The CONCACAF Champions League is the last 16, before that there is the CONCACAF Cup which teams from lesser nations in the rankings enter and the best ones get into the Champions League. Nicaragua had a team in that - they came bottom!
Nicaragua are ranked 92nd in the world, NZ are currently 122, but I suppose thats what you get when you've played at least 8 games in the last 12 months.......
All I'll say is that you could put out a Central League XI and they wouldn't have lost three games to that opposition.
I'm probably the only person here who has seen a Nicaraguan National League game in the flesh. It was very poor. Below the Handy Prem. Juventus Managua til I die.

When it comes to CONCACAF, UWI ftw. Their heroic 1-0 defeat to Tivoli Gardens in October 2018 will long live in memory.

With FIFA's new rules we just might get Boyed coming back to the All Whites among others too.

Not sure there is any NZ eligible player playing for other countries that meet that criteria to swap to NZ tbh.
Neither Pizzuto or Harris are eligible for a NZ passport, right?

Within the new rulings is the new Article 9(5):
5. A player that was: a) granted a change of association; and b) was not fielded in a match in any (official or unofficial) competition in any kind of football by the new association, may request a change of association back to his former association provided he continues to hold the nationality of such association.

So if she doesn't play for Germany she may choose to switch back to NZ
Liam Jordan
Also not in that article but in the new rulings is a change to article 7(d):
No longer is there a requirement to have lived on the territory for 5 years after the age of 18:
d) He has lived on the territory of the relevant association.: i) for players that began living on the territory before the age of 10: at least three years; ii) for players that began living on the territory between the age of 10 and 18: at least five years; iii) for players that began living on the territory from the age of 18: at least five years.
Liam moved to NZ in 2004 when he was just 6 which means that when he first played for SA in 2015 he was also eligible for NZ (assuming he has NZ citizenship?) so now he can switch if he wants.
