It will be less than half full - i'm picking 20,000 max

It's going to be horrid with the stadium so empty. They should have played it at the new rectangular stadium but of course the money grabbing idiots are too short sighted

20,000 seems light to me. I thought they got 80,000 for the send off four years ago? Albeit against Greece. The fact that they're selling tickets for the entire ground makes me think it has to be 40-50,000 at least. Generally they'll have one stand entirely closed if low numbers are expected imo.

His point is that their expectations are wrong.

My point is he is wrong.

It will be a biggie.

Haak, you're spot on with all of the above, but I wrote the exact same thing on here some months ago (and several other places as well) and got blasted for it. (check here for the thread I wrote pretty much what you wrote above: http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11930)

The FFA released Aus$15 tickets to this game a week ago, which indicates that ticket sales are slow for this game.

I'll save the rest of my spiel for post-match.

gee visionary. what you posted was in response to an excited buffy who had just got tix. and you rained on his parade by being condescending and telling us it was a nothing game.

Allegedly

I don't think many people argued with you that it would be a sell out (personally I would imagine around 40k), just your attitude that you should have had someone better, and we were way below your standard. Given that initially this game was basically rubbished by the FFA, my best guess would be we were the most attractive team you could get, and no decent team wanted to come down here and play you. Therefore not much point in bitching about it.

Also, the last the Socceroos need would be for the All Whites to actually shock the visionaries of Diego's like, come over there, get a result and have the Aussie media tearing strips out of them right as the build up starts.

DO YOU THINK THE AUSSIES WOULD BE OFFENDED BY THIS?

Went to a lunch at Black Tom's in West Perth on Thursday to hear Pim Verbeek speak. In his answer to one question, he bemoaned the fact that (so far) only 46000 tickets had been sold to the MCG send-off match. He thought that indicated a lack of passionate support for the Socceroos. He said that in Europe any WC-farewell match would be sold out.

No. It's comparable to having descendants on the Mayflower in the US.

They are literally trying to give away tickets to this game any way they can

I just wish it was at the new stadium is all - would've been a much better atmosphere, but oh well. I guess we can't complain considering we didn't even think we'd get this game.

The problem with a lot of Socceroos fans is that they seem to care about who they are playing more than the Socceroos themselves.

They sold out for Greece because half the stadium were Greek.

Anyone know if there is anywhere that will be showing the Crusaders V Bulls Semi Final?

In Melbourne now. Awesome city! Is anyone in town who wants to go for a beer? (I know it is 10am, but I've been up since 3.)
