Ok

Our likely starting midfielders (if no injuries and issues) to give ball service and support to them are:

McGlinchey, Elliot, Brown and Bertos.

But which forwards should we start?

Smeltz - has been getting plenty of goal chances and is the leading Goal scorer in the A-league. Simply a excellent finisher that any team would be proud to have. Age:28, height 6"1".

Just turned 28 today on 29th September. Happy birthday.

Killen - has been getting some game time with Celtic 1st this season and has scored goals in the preseason. With injuries to fellow strikers, he is given more time to start to which he has started to scored some terrific goals. He is under the watchful eyes of his former Hibs manager, Tony Mowbray, where he has shown his striking skills as the top scorer for Hibs in that season before his move to Celtic. A targetman player who is promising to deliver under Tony Mowbray with more game time unlike the climate under Gordon Strachan who had resigned after the 08-09 season. His three year contact finishes after this coming season 09-10. Age:28, height: 6"0".

Fallon - has been getting more regular starts over the past year. Has recently re-signed a new contact after his 30 month contact expired in June 09. More in the framework of a targetman type player. Age:27, height: 6"2".

Wood- has been getting game time with WBA and scored an amazing goal recently, his first goal after 9 appearances. Has been used as a wing-striker rather than a central striker. Has signed a two year contact with an two year option with the club afterwards. Age:17, height 6"3"

NB: I haven't included Kris Bright or Jarrod Smith but given the likelihood of having 16-18 members in the play-off squad and the nature of the in-form strikers in the current professional environment. They would be considered unlucky and are fringe players to this squad. The actual World Cup Final Squad would be another story with a larger sized squad.

Smletz and Killen - no arguments - - then maybe bring on Fallon/Woods on the 60-70th min depending on how we go.
Smeltz has been in excellent form and Killen has the experience that just might help us . . .

I think Woods would be a better player to bring on as he is more of an impact player then Fallon.

I'm liking the sound of having

                 Paston
       Siggy Nelsen Vicelich
Scott                          Lochy

      Bertos Mc/Br/El El/Mc

                 Smeltz
          Fallon      Killen

IMO it is a balanced lineup, especially against a team not great in the air. It would be alot harder for the Bahrainis to get in behind those 3 in central defense.  With that attack it wouldn't take many crosses for one of them to get hold of 1.

Yep... although I suspect FIFA will bring up those pesky rules about only having 11 players on the pitch at one time.

One thing I notice is that any of the strikers we have are quite tall. Killen is actually the shortest one there. He is stand at 6"0". Then Smeltz stands at 6"1". Fallon comes at 6"2" and Wood stands at 6"3".

Fallon and Killen are very similiar player type. Solid in the air and physically cut to be the targetman. Fallon slightly stronger than Killen in the air. He outjumped the Jordan's GK hand for that goal by a large margin. Killen has know to occasionally outjump tall defender.

But who has the better footwork? Fallon is more adventurous in his playmaking but Killen does more tight physical work.

Wood is a different player upfront. More wing striker than central striker, he does take the options in being on the right or left channel, depending on the teams plans.
Last season he was exploring down the right channel and this early season has been on the left channel. The way he playing at the moment shows he has the talent and the x factor. He most likely be used in the home leg off the bench as a wild card. But surely is not a player to ignore.

I had no idea Wood was that tall. Fallon looked towering against Jordan, and Wood looks fairly small when playing for WBA from what I've seen (admittedly little though). I'd be very surprised if it wasn't Killen/Smeltz, but Fallon has to be odds on for a sub around 65'.

Wood is 17 and will be 18 by the years end and probably still can grow more. He looks small because of his frame and age but he when he is fully grown and muscle up a bit, he is going to be a monster of a player to try and defend against. Already his skill factor is better than most in the AW set up.

Wood is a monster. The suprising thing, it seems, is that he seems to be more of a creative-type than a target man.

And surprisingly mobile, having watch some of his games before he went to the uk and since he's being there, he's quick off the mark and can get on the end of quick one two's.

Impressive for such a big kid. Another couple of years worth of growing and bulking, and he will be the buff Crouch
