This guy is only 18 but looked really fired up against Paraguay.  I reckon he should have started against Paraguay.  Do you think he has the potential to be another Rufer?  Seems a very exciting prospect !!!

Him, Reid and Smith will play major parts in the All Whites future I believe.

As far as our attack goes, he will definately be #1 in a couple of years as Smeltzy and Killen age.  But tbh it won't even have anything to do with age because Wood would have had a lot more playing experience and working on his game between now and then.  Hope he can get some game time in the EPL.  Even playing in the WBA reserves will be a higher level playing EPL reserves compared to Championship reserves.

He might even get loaned?  Cant see WBA letting him go, and there wont another club whos willing to pay $$$$$ for him.

Potential to be like Bentdner etc?  Tall, skillful... he'll go good for sure.

He definitly has a bright future ahead of him in my opinion... if any1 hasn't seen his goal against doncaster yet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYdVNzUrxEI <--- pretty bad quality though. He is still very young but he knows how to use his body well and has good pace on him for a teen of his size. WBA decided not to put him out on loan by the last transfer deadline. (manager said he has alot of potential) But it looks likely that Chris will be put out on loan this season.. i believe there was some talk about going to Portsmouth or something but im not sure... Alot of it could do with what formation WBA plays next season in the EPL because alot of people seem to think that he is there 2nd best striker if they are playing one up front but if they have 2 or 3 they dont seem to think he is so effective. So we will see what happens, but whatever does i hope its good!!!

He has a big future I think, his turn of Cannavro was world class. Once he gets a few goals I think he will move to another level. He has all the confidence in the world as well as size, a bit of speed and some good skills.

It was telling when he was asked by a reporter who he thought the best striker in the All Whites was & he said he was. Thats what we need, the confidence of youth

Am I the only one who thinks hes not really all that good? He hasnt scored for us yet, but how many chances has he had? Plenty. But yeah, still young i guess

I think I read a stat that said the youngest player to score a goal at this World Cup was over 20 years old.

Wood's only 18, and whilst he's got a lot to learn, he's well and truly got time on his side. Apart from blowing a very good chance in that Slovenian warm-up game, he's fed off scraps really and almost turned nothing into something for us:
- In Manama it was him and McGlinchey that made Bahrain sweat even more with their cameos in the second-half.
- Wood also came on and did his role on that night in Wellington.
- He turned an aging Cannavaro and was a ball-width away from scoring a exquisite goal from a tough angle on the World Cup stage.

It was nice to see West Brom get back into the top flight in English football, and we hope to see some of Wood in the Premier League. That said, being loaned out and playing week-in, week-out for a Championship side wouldn't be the worst outcome for him IMO.

In short, give Wood time.

Just because he hasn't  score doesn't mean he's not good.

Strikers should be scoring more goals than anyone

He has huge potential and I think being at a club like WBA will allow him to progess. He's out of the limelight there, nothing expected of him so he can concentrate on developing into the quality he so far suggests. If that last gasp effort had of connected and gone in, he would have been front page everywhere.

I have no doubts he will be a talent for New Zealand in the future. Time will tell.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

A genius piece of footballing commentary

He knocks them in for fun at reserve level but does need to translate that to seniors - most WBA fans feel the samevaleo2010-06-28 00:11:43

I'm not that convinced. Yet.

As for that turn on the edge of the box - Even Woods says it was more luck than judgement. More than a favourable bobble there, I think.

Most WBA fans i've spoken too love him.

Three for me, and two for them.

He can beat a player, he has pace, he is as big as a brick sh*thouse, is ok in the air, can shoot from distance and can pass.

Wasn't as good in the air as Fallon against Paraguay.

Having said that, yet to snaffle his first international goal.

Fallon and Smeltz made this cup for us. Killen and Wood even though better players didn't snaffle any, and in the end that's kinda the sticking point for a striker.

Want to see him when he's got his shooting boots on for us. I'm sure it's coming.

It's a pity he didn't get a full half with Fallon and Smeltz against Paraguay. I thought Herbert was too cautious when our attack was crap, and that would have been the time to sub him in, perhaps even in the first half.
