Not sure if this is the right place but no women's thread that I could see...
I'm concerned about the upcoming under 17s world cup. Don't get me wrong, I really hope it will be a success but really doubt it.
Is anyone going to go along and pay to watch under-17 girls play football?
I mean this in the nicest possible way but the question has to be asked. Women's football in general is quite poor to watch and I don't know anyone who would watch it over the men's game.
Thoughts?

It's being run in exactly the same way as the Open mens on a smaller scale. So it should run smoothly.

And I can see them getting decent enough crowds, particularly as the tickets are cheap and get you into multiple games.

I have to agree Elle10. I woud rather watch any mens game (even lower divisions) than any womans game. The woman just dont' have the same level of skill and the games are so slow!

That's a bit of a generalisation. I've seen some skillful , entertaining women's football in my time and I've seen some bl**dy terrible men's football.

people who say womens football is crap compared to mens football, have usually never watched a game of womens football.

Go and watch some of the WC, and I am sure you will be surprised by the skill levels

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Wgtn has sold 5,000 tickets thru schools to the first game (Engl V Brazil), thats 2+ months out

i'd say that equates to some interest

Women's football isn't THAT bad - I went to the Women's League final last year with two other Feverites and had a great time. It's enjoyable enough that I'd buy tickets if I wasn't getting into the games for free as a volunteer.

You are having a laugh.  Team Wellington would beat any international women's side.

Brazil, USA, Germany or Norway women's team would skin TW

It'd be an interesting match up to be fair

after watching the way some of the brazilan women play in particular I think it would be intersting watching them play a mens side. Marta could be in many mens teams, she is fast and can shoot and dribble better than most men!!

BLASPHEMY! I watch every weekend. Today at Centennial Park at 1pm Seatoun are playing Upper Hutt City. Come along!!!!!

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I agree with Dairyflat. I've been to a number of Central League women's games in the last two seasons and have seen some awesome footy. Have you vere seen Wendi Henderson in "full flight"? Sure, some of the lower games aren't that great BUT central league women are top notch. The young ones, and I mean the 15 and 16 year olds learn heeps from the seasoned players and that can only be good for the game.

Swallow your pride in 2009 and come and watch Seatoun v Upper Hutt. The skill abounds!!

Meantime, you can follow Melbourne Victory's fortunes in the W-League.

We've sent a couple of Football Ferns across to teach those pesky West Islanders how to play football, and Marlies Oostdam and Rebecca Tegg duly scored in the main game at the Telstra Dome today, a 2-0 home win over Central Coast Mariners.

Cheers,
