I hate the All Blacks and would like nothing more than to see them crash and burn spectacularly. You can call me small minded or petty but i don't give a f**k, rugby is a horrid sport and i couldn't give two sh*ts about next years World Cup or any of the bollocks that comes with it.

Three for me, and two for them.

FFS. Another person banging on about some sort of supposed collaboration between rugby and the media to "supress" football. Get a grip.

On the topic of the All Blacks etc, it's a totally personal choice to love/like/dislike/loathe/feel ambivalence towards any sport or sports team.  I personally hope the All Blacks win the World Cup next year but I have no opinion about anyone who does or doesn't feel the same.

You have not been around long enough. In the 70's there was a live local game every week on TV One. Suburbs v Mt Wellington has 15000 at Newmarket Park. All of a sudden TV wanted(I can't remember the figure) xxxx dollars to show football. No can do. Hello, soon they are PAYING NZFU for showing live rugby on TV.You make your own mind up.

on the matter of wanting the all blacks to win, if I believed it would help football to grow in NZ I would want them to win - i don't believe it would help

Wow,that sort of thing is usually swept under the rug in the media. Then one bottle gets thrown on the pitch at a nix game and all over the news was "hooligan football supporters"

Good stuff Mr Vaughan.

Bloody media.

Seriously.

Willie Lose (with a capital L) talking now about how WONDERFUL it is that this All Black team is reaching out and touching their communities. How wonderful that they are signing autographs for the kids.

Sorry??

Half the reason I lost a lot of interest in rugby and the All Blacks in the past few years was the fact that they completely lost touch with their communities. Every contact with the team was controlled and contrived. We complained. We were ignored. Then the ABs lost the World Cup and the coaches wanted to keep their jobs after asking us to trust in their policies of being dicks and judging them on the World Cup result.

All of a sudden they started to "listen" to all the complaints we'd been making for years. Rugby was brought back to the "grass roots" and players were no longer kept in a closed media circle.

Sorry but I'm over it.

Football (and other sports in New Zealand) don't reach out to their communities just to make us feel better about years of neglecting their fans. They appear to do it because they actually care about their fans, and always have done. Love you guys.

I'm not anti-ABs/rugby like some here may be but I'm a bit sick of these guys that are held on a pedestal they don't deserve.

I think the A'B's are playing a better brand of rugby. I also belive that there learning lessons from other codes such as All Whites, when migling with fans, media etc..

The Ball is certainly in footballs court and hope momentum continues with the Phoenix season about to kick off.

And great news about Winston Reid - First Maori to play in the English Premier League.

Top some icing on the cake with friendly international match against Paraguay in October.

Lets hope football can rise further here.

Nice link

I still back the ABs and I do hope they win the world cup, but I hate the hype. I hate hearing about how the ABs caning the Aussies and Boks mean the RWC is in the bag next year. Been there every four years and it always ends in tears. There is no modesty, just this arrogance that world domination is a god given right. I'm over it. Meanwhile other sports struggle for any exposure, because some nothing rugby story is dominating the sports bulletin. Like 3 News having what's-his-name broadcasting the sports news all week from wherever the ABs are play that weekend. I'm sick of the satuation.

And the f'n All Black ads on the tele... don't get me started. It seems rather than fan-based support for the team, everything has to be commercially driven. It's so fake. I'm over it.

"MasterCard brings the All Blacks back to grassroots rugby".

Hate that one. Where were the ABs in the years of complaints from fans that they were separated from the grass roots and were elitist? Media having to fight through red tape to get just a moment with an AB who read off a song sheet?

Meeting Siggy and the boys at training session with low-key security and giving me their time for a chat and photographs and autographs - priceless.

Interesting range of opinions here.

I wonder if football was ever in the position that eggball is here - if it would also be following the same approach.

Maybe part of the accessibility is that it is a small sport and NZF and the players have not had the environment to develop into a flashy corporate and big egos.

A couple of years ago I was saying something about being patriotic when 2011 came along. I'm not even sure if I will now. Not following the tri-nations, barely registered with the S14 and the ITM thing is just something that is there before the Nix start.

It. really. doesn't. interest. me.

(but still, good luck and all that)

Yep I've pondered and raised that question before - what happens in 20 years when football is the dominant sport? Will they become like our ABs? Cos it would be really off-putting LOL.

If you're prediction is right we'll be paying $500+ for a season membership (for one), a new strip every season, we'll have full houses for the derby matches against racists united.

And we'll be owned by some USA douche bags who load the cub up with debt...

I was in the stand at AMI on saturday night, you could hear a pin drop in the second half.

The only time the crowd got slightly excited was when the mexican wave tried to start.

Tbf that's happened to me in many football games. And the last three tests have been quality. Why do we always have to knock rugby? Enjoy both or enjoy one or the other but leave the other one alone.

To be completely honest the sporting bigotry sometimes displayed here is about the only thing that spoils an otherwise awesome experience of enjoying football as my number one preferred sport to watch.

My interest in rugby is at an all time low but that won't stop me watching the occasional All Black game (I'll turn it off it I get bored). Neither would I pass judgement on those that want to watch rugby or both rugby and football.

It was sung at the last competitive Phoenix home game vs Jets. I was there.

edit to say according to posts on here it was also sung in Hamilton for the Nix v Roar pre season game.

Agree with Buffy, it's a tired chant and should be retired. Personally, I feel there's no reason to sing it unless we're playing against an Auckland team or playing in Auckland, in which case it's fair game. Other than that I don't feel it adds too much these days. We've proved that we're not Auckland any more through our achievements, both on and off the field, so let's focus on our successes rather than their failures.

Unless we're playing against them, in which case yeah, rub it in

Hamilton was a bit of an exception because a large amount of the Zone were from Auckland, but I personally don't feel that chant adds too much at the Ring of Fire.
