Major media angst here. Was in the car today going to a job and the news was on. Leading the news was Dan Carter being injured or something. There was nothing about Ryan Nelsen's tummy. What's the deal? Is he going to be alright? I've heard nothing and I can't find anything! Come on media!

Pretty sure last i heard was that Ryan would be 100% fit and ready for tomorrow mornings match.

Three for me, and two for them.

They might be Aussies, but the SMH has had some great stories about us during the World Cup. You've got to love the good foriegn press for the All Whites at the moment.

The report from McConie after the Italy game where he spoke with a few of the players parents in the crowd was great. None of the other channels did that. Been loving CGW's coverage.

Agree. Many people say CGW is a comedy show, which is true and thouroughly enjoyable, but they get a perspective most other stations miss out on.

Not sure, but Gourdie wasn't at the bbq's was he? The stitch up with food int he jacket was class, and obviously shows the good light hearted relationship..

Definitely agree. CGW is quality.

Campbell is pretty good in saying that "many of us thought you guys wd get thrashed but shows how little we all know". Also he seems genuinely upset talking to Ryan  Nelsen who is obviously devastated and totally feeling like he let NZ down. Nice to see Campbell echoing all of us in saying that Nelsen has done an amazing job with absolutely nothing to feel bad about

Tall Blacks - winners. They came 4th in a tournament beating teams placed well above them and were disappointed because they believed they could win the thing.

All Whites - winners. Unbeaten but knocked out. Captain says sorry to the country for their "failure" when they've achieved more than anyone dare even dream.

Black Caps - losers. They come 3rd in some tournament I don't even want to care about. Coach says "well we are placed 3rd in the world so I'm happy with where we finished".

Willie Losoe on Sportstalk earlier this evening described the All Whites achievement as "Mediocre."

Was tempted to jump on a plane to Auckland just so I could smack the ignorant c**t.

I can.

The day after the Bahrain win, you could almost hear the rage coming through Willie's voice, especially as the ITA-NZ rugby match had been such a disaster.  Then spent the rest of the week weirdly reflecting on what it meant to be a NZer (i.e., our love for rugby).

It's neither in his personal or professional interest for football to rise in this country...

Selective hearing. I heard it too on the way back from Waiuku for our prems game today. He didn't call the achievement mediocre at all. In fact to the ignorant meatheads who rang up saying it was mediocre too he actually corrected them and stated that wasn't what he said at all.

I don't like Lose much but he was spot on today. You talk about rugby types being insecure, well some of you are well on the track to being exactly the same.

Tend to agree. We get up in arms about nothing sometimes, taking journos comments way out of context. No wonder they show us no love sometimes.

I think it is crap that so few World Cup games are free to air. TV2 is showing Wimbledon and there is a ridiculous amount motorsport on, but not all the World Cup. The World Cup is only every four years and it is the world's biggest single sport event. It sucks that people on here have to look for internet broadcasts for games.

And how many channels are broadcasting the rugby world cup...

Fair point. I don't really mind because i have sky and the free to air coverage is usually crap anyway.

Yeah, so do I! But I stayed at my folks house last night so I dipped out. My fault for leaving the house, I suppose.

You say that yet TV1's match coverage of the All Whites games were 50 times better than sky. Devlin is the perfect host for football, Sumner is a walking, living legend and we got English Commentary

Over on Sky.....Dewhurst and Fred. Listening to Piney on radio without pictures is a better option than those two. Despite Sky making heaps from subscriptions to sport, they continue with a cheap option

Devlin annoys the f**k out of me. I'll give them Sumner. But sky have Harry, equally a legend. Elrick would be great if he actually knew anything about football. Still, don't find Noah much better. After all you find him more in the entertainment pages these days, sipping some top end drink at a swarthy night club of sorts.

And as News points out you can get English commentary on sky too, which during this World Cup has been patronising and laughable. So really Sky > 1.

I enjoyed the English commentary. Take into context that going into every game we were expected to lose by the wider world press, and I enjoyed hearing the commentators wonderment that we were competing against these teams.

I also thought we got a lot more mention than the other teams as we were playing them, and that the knowledge the commentators displayed about our team was impressive (probably from a fact sheet TBH, still was good stuff).

MHO opinion of course.

I don't mind Martin Devlin, but would have preferred Geoff Bryan.

The Woman's magazines are joining the AW popularity wagon.

Turn the front cover and there is a spread on our AW's plus celebrities and which team they support. Plus a pull out poster of the team.

It's the one with Princess Anne and Camilla Parker Bowles on it.

(I would have stuck a pic up but the icon has disappeared)

Willie Lose almost broke into a anti-football rant tonight.  The acting.  The petulance.  The hoolie factor.  The Argentine hugging.

The Guardian has a vote-based player rating system and has just published an analysis of ratings so far.   Their list of "The 10 best player performances at the World Cup" currently has Ryan Nelsen's performance against Italy at number 3; his performance against Paraguay at 5; Mark Paston's performance against Paraguay at 7; and Paston's performance against Italy at 9.

Interesting. Would of thought Paston was better against Italy. But still great to see our players receiving such high ratings.
