World Cup Schedule - Shared Google Calendar (NZT)

Hi everyone,

I have just finished plugging in all 64 games of the FIFA World Cup 2010 into a shared Google calendar which I hope will be helpful for everyone.

I couldn't find anything like it in a quick hunt. Basically you can now import all the game schedule into whatever calendar you use as long as it conforms to iCal standards. This means that all the cup games will be added to whatever calendar you use such as Outlook, iCal, etc., and it then can be uploaded to your smartphone/PDA organiser.

Here are the links:

HTML: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=lk33eh4uv7ur4tt55h7n0rndc4%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=Pacific/Auckland

iCal: http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/lk33eh4uv7ur4tt55h7n0rndc4%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

XML: http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/lk33eh4uv7ur4tt55h7n0rndc4%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic

All times are converted into NZ local time (thank goodness SA only has a single time zone!).

Hope you guys find it as useful as I will find it. I thought that since I was going to do the work anyway I should share it with others to save you the trouble.

Please let me know if there are any errors to correct.

And now courtesy of bronynz here are:

Nice, my iCal never looked so busy.

I've never made such a shared calendar before - I take it from your post that it worked?

Hope it does. And yes, very busy indeed. Not sure how I'm going to fit any life around it.

Good work though.

Can that be added in NZ Time Zones though? I didn't see that but I was looking specifically with our Time Zones.

I have already added Round of 16 onwards (ie. all game fixtures) unlike the one you link (which he says he will add later).

Obviously the knockout phase are simply placeholders for now but still useful for those of us that work.

"feedback shows that as long as your Google Calendar settings are set to your Timezone then the fixtures will be correct for you."

This is what I thought?

Well there is one advantage to what I've done anyway - people who are just viewing the links above and not pulling it into their calendars will have it displayed in NZT.

I don't have google calander set up. I'm old skool and still kill a tree by having an actual antiquated paper diary that I can stick things in... flyers and what not. I jst wanted something to print out and stick on my office wall so that is now done and my only job left is to blackmail people into staying up that late and going to the pub to watch the kiwi games

You're welcome. I figured that since I wanted it I might as well take one for the team.

Entering those games in manually initially seemed like a real chore but man did it whet my appetite!

For those of you who may be interested (press release from SKY TV):

Further to SKY Sports coverage of all 64 matches LIVE in HD the following channels will also air specials in the build up to the cup

NZ Premiere

BUILD UP TO THE CUP

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC - Tuesday 1 & 8 June, 8.30pm

South Africa is the powerhouse of the African continent and right now, it is also the biggest building site in the world. As the country prepares to welcome millions of soccer fans for the 2010 World Cup, the host cities have been catapulted into megastructure mayhem.

1/6 STADIUMS: South Africa is the powerhouse of the African continent and, right now, it is also the biggest building site in the world. As the country prepares to welcome millions of soccer fans for the 2010 World Cup, the host cities are catapulted into mayhem. Architects and engineers work against the clock to complete three magnificent stadiums. Soccer City in Johannesburg will be host the opening World Cup ceremonies and the final game. Design teams are briefed to create a unique space that represents South Africas cultural melting pot. The result is an arena in the unusual shape of a giant African calabash (bottle gourd), but will one of the worst rainy seasons interfere with their plans? In Kwazulu Natal, the record breaking Moses Mabhida stadium will have the planets longest arch; a massive steel structure with a cable car attached to it. A similar design gave the builders of Wembley stadium endless headaches and resulted in a ten-month delay. Will the Moses Madhiba crew get it right? The Green Point stadium in Cape Town is set against the backdrop of the infamous Table Mountain. It may be visually breathtaking but for the designers and builders this is a location from hell. The Cape of Storms lives up to its reputation as building crews battle the elements to complete this unique sports arena complete with a 4500-ton glass roof.

8/6 TRAIN: As South Africa prepares for the World Cup, the Johannesburg skyline is changing. A visionary project rises from the ground. Cranes tower over construction sites and gigantic viaducts are built to carry Africas first high speed railway. At a cost of over US$3.5 billion and employing 90 thousand people, The Gautrain, or "golden train", is the biggest transport project ever undertaken in Africa. The team of international transport specialists is working on 65 sites simultaneously. They are blasting, drilling and tunnelling their way into the history books. Phase one of the project is planned for completion in time to transport thousands of World Cup visitors between the business district of Sandton and the countrys busy OR Thambo Airport. In Kwazulu Natal, an arid construction site is undergoing a remarkable makeover. It will soon become the King Shaka airport; one of only five "Greenfield" airports to be built in the world in the last decade. Things are changing at a scary speed and not everyone or everything is adapting easily. A young herpetologist has his job cut out for him as he rescues venomous snakes that have been forced out of their habitats and into human homes. It will take designers, engineers, monster machines and mega-millions to upgrade the transport systems and have them 2010 ready.

Mate, I appreciate the copy and paste effort you've gone into but it's completely thrown the thread and to be honest the information you have provided is better placed in a thread about TV coverage.

Also, the calendar already shows what time all the games are on so your SS match schedule isn't of much use except to say which channel it is on - however everyone would know that it's going to be on one of the 3 SS channels.

Would be good if you could trim back the wall of texts that you just posted because the thread now appears messed up. To be honest a link to the press release would have probably been better.

bronynz, a suggestion - do you have the Excel spreadsheet itself?

Would probably be better to have it "shared" somewhere that people can click to or download it because the forum formatting doesn't really allow that information to be presented in the best fashion.

It's useful information for sure but the forum presents it poorly.

Yea i have the spreadsheet...if you can send me a PM with your email addy, I can forward the spreadsheet to you and you could maybe put it somewhere 'shared'? I would if i could, but I'm not sure how/where and sure its probably quicker for you to just do than try to explain to me??

LOL, i dont care man, just put it up. I find it rather ironic that the amount of discussion we've publically had about it is probably more of a nuisance for people to scroll through than my initial post

WOW this project ended up being even more awesome than I first thought!

If you have an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch then simply use your Safari browser to click the second link in the original post (referring to iCal) and you will be asked if you want to subscribe to the calendar.

I tried that and 2 clicks later all the games were instantly on this iPad calendar!!

Very sweet and I am sure it will work with other compatible devices.

Gah, it's a lie. The iPhone didn't like it for whatever reason. So requires a slightly more complicated procedure (needs to go to Outlook first, and then sync to iPhone). Was so nice and easy with the iPad.

Getting increasingly excited and decided that it might not be impossible to watch these games overnight and still do a day job. For an old man like me will require sleeping early and then getting up. I don't deal well with sleep deprivation!

Those damned 6:30am matches aren't work compatible though.
