I actually spoke to Hooky from New Order (well, he left a message on my answer machine) about "getting the band back together" to do this. Large barrier is the fact that they don't really seem to get on anymore, so the chance of reforming to produce an All White WC song wasn't going to get off the ground. He did say that it was the sort of mad thing they would have done back in the day.
Spoke to Simon Elliott about it as well - he thought it was a great idea to do the song with all procedes going to Small Whites.
All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

NZF should be all over this kind of thing. Perhaps they are, we just don't know about it yet. I reckon they missed the boat post-qualification too, they should have been selling those guys like there's no tomorrow: Weetbix adverts, Paston Kiwi Bank 'Supersaver' ads etc- we need to get the All Whites to become household names and in the wake of November 14 and in the run up to the Cup this is the time to do it. No World Cup song = Epic Fail by NZF.

As far as I am concerned Miles' song was for the qualification campaign. The World Cup song must always include the players , and consist of a studio chorus and an optional player 'rap'. However I get the feeling that NZF will miss the boat on this one. Neither Glading or Frankie Van H fill me with confidence when it comes exploiting the game's marketing potential.
I hate to do it, but I'm gonna have to call Winton (Wolf) Rufer, he solves problems...

Miles song was written for qualification. it doesnt really work for the cup itself - One SHot for Glory - and all his rattling on about how the Aussies are there and how we are gonna get there too.
Need song. Greenie, YF needs to put some money up for somebody to come up with our wc anthem.
