^ That's the truth.

As an aside, I really don't rate Brockie.  He's quite slow, somewhat lazy and a player like that doesn't have a place in our team.  He'll have to really work hard to get a chance.

Yep, that's them. Cheers, EG.

Any news on whether or not they're interested?

My understading is that both are still harbouring hopes of playing for Denmark and England respectively. But the carrot of appearing in the World Cup right now is surely tempting, so guess we'll have to watch this space.

I think Ricki jumped the gun a bit by promising so many spots in his team so far before the WC. If he does drop any of them now it just makes him look like a plonker

Surely the question is "Would they be good enough"?

Compared to who? The Nix's back line lol. Winston beats Brown and lockhead hands down. But would he meld/mold into the team?. Smith seems ok too, But cant back him as i havent seen him play at all.

Lol Reid would easily walk into our defence.

Can either of them play right back? Both seem to be CB's which we don't really need

I think, Smith is CB and Reid can play RB. Not too sure though.

I think you can assume smith and reid good enough for the squad, hard to know whether they'd start. just based on being a defender in the championship you'd think smith would go close (although i see he was back on the bench last week).

Does Reid have realistic chance of playing for Denmark? big difference bw age group and full international. he is 90 min every week man for his danish club but they are not one of the biggest clubs and Denmark has a lot of good players around Europe - so how close is he really?

also, this is pretty random - MLS top 100 players of all time according this blog - Elliott 87th.

We have a few boys playing in Japan at the moment don't we?  How old are they and have they made any first team appearances at all.

There was some Fitzgerald guy and I could've sworn there was another.

who does a top 100 and stops and will continue later??? t**ser.

was interested to see where Nelsen would be..

as for Smith and Reid, Smith would be good cover but Reid would stroll into that RB role. He told me he will make his decision soon , but hopes to make the right choice. (cmon Winston you're a Maori ffs). He does owe alot to the Danes though so understandable why it is so difficult.

Surely he'd acknowledge this and switch for us.

You can't beat experience.  He's still pretty solid.  Looking at the stats, hes a pro who just feeds the ball nicely to the likes of our Killens, Smeltz's and Fallons.

Re Reid, isn't it time Ryan 'accidently on purpose' called on Winston for a beer.
A world cup in the hand is worth more than two maybes in eight year's time.

Yeh it was a top performance from Nellie last night. Excellent defence, plyus his couple of runs up the field shows how he leads by example. Diouf wasted such a good chance that Nellie set up.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

In Reid's case, are there more than one downside for choosing to play for NZ. obviously it means he can never play for denmark.

But will it cause other problems with him playing his professional club career out in Denmark? i.e. do they have restrictions on how many foreign players in their squad etc?

will he be out of favour with some dane club  coaches after turning his back on Denmark? burning bridges and all that.

his future pro career and income could be on the line with this decision.

He's a regular starting club player, has plenty of game experience, club over country for a number of coaches and not all coaches are Danes. He has a dual passport so I doubt he would be counted as a foreign import if there is any rules on it.

Plenty of willing volunteers I'm sure... I'd be worried I'd break my fave GN100 scoop

And yes - I can use cross-code sporting references if I so wish!

Soccafan, get your mate, Tom, to send Ricki a Christmas card. Help keep his name top of mind.

And maybe send one to Ricki, yourself, telling him what you've written here in case Ricki doesn't read this stuff.

He hasn't proved himself.  He's done adequately playing as a second striker and no more.

You'd hope that wouldn't be enough for a world cup squad, but if Mulligan makes it (with three games in two years for the Nix) then who knows.

I assume that's because Australia has no chance of making the semi's.  Not through any failure of our own.

Well he won't be picked if he isn't eligible for NZ so tell him to hurry up and sort it.

According to the Herald Rikki sent Tommy Smith an email saying he can have a place right now.   Ipswich's website said he hasn't thought about it, was more focused on staying in the first team!!
