That depends a bit on the tour.  I know many, such as the Emirates tours, are based in Jo'burg and you fly/bus out on the day of the match each time.  I'd be pretty happy to stay in the area though, between these games.  One's the 20th, the next is the 24th.

From the pool to the bar to the tv room back to the bar then off to the pub followed by a trip to the bar then back to the TV room. Maybe get to the shops if I have time.

Its no longer a problem.

Been to that part of the world....its as boring as bat shiite.
The towns are like Taihape or Danevirke...except treeless and dusty. That time of year it gets  freezing after dark....day time is dusty and dry.
Lots of game parks near by...which are cool. Plus you could get a plane up to the Victoria falls in Zimbabwe.
But the towns of Rustenburg and Nelspruit and the other one are ferkin dull. Take Playstation and lots of books. Its also Sth Africa's bible belt....people are very conservative.
Shame we are not at the coast. Capetown and port Elizabeth and Durban are great. Excellent beaches, great food, cool scenery and great night life.

Would love to go to the Kruger national park, go to Mozambique and anything else I can think of.  I hope chap above me is joking about taking a playstation.  That would be awful.

That's pretty much it. In between matches in Germany this was pretty much the routine.

Safa friends of mine have responded to questions about this trip with:

"It's horrible"
"Why would you go there"
"Wait for the next World Cup" and
"It's a wasteland"

Encouraging stuff.  I reckon a safari is a must, and I like the idea of flying to Vic Falls.  Sounds like getting out of there is going to be key.  I reckon some of us will be keen to hit Cape Town for a couple of days and catch a game there and a night out.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Is there a shooting range near by?

Its no longer a problem.

Main street of Jo'burg?

Good point: add "fire an AK47" to the definite list of must dos.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Went to Zimbabwe about few years ago. We went to a wedding in Harare, did the safari thing (Walking behind the man with the big gun! Great fun.) and then spent a few days at Vic Falls. Absolutely superb holiday, one of the best I've ever had.

Dunno if I'd want to go back now tho'!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'm planning a tour from Jo'burg to Nairobi after the world cup, it goes via several game parks and the victoria falls.  Looks pretty damn good.

In the Polokwane and Nelspruit areas I would check out these places of interest:

Kruger National Park. I recommend camps between Skukuza and Shingwedzi. It is also dry in those months so water holes and rivers/river beds see lots of action.

Bylde River Canyon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blyde_River_Canyon

Sterkfontein Caves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sterkfontein

Gold panning at Pilgrims Rest, Sudwala Caves

Nice Bullion.  Very nice.  Thanks.

In case Greenie hasn't already posted it, we're staying just outside Pretoria.  Central to all three of our match venues.

You should be about a 2 hour drive from Sun City then. In Pretoria you can check our Parliament, National History Museum and the Science Museum. Sandton, which is just north of Jo'burg and south of Pretoria they have recently built a casino and entertainment complex on the site of driving range

The thought of seeing the Fever hitting up the Museums just made me laugh out loud. Sorry.
