ok,

SOmebody suggested we set up a separate thread for this. GOod idea. We are going to have to apply via ballot for these and going in groups is going is far preferrable to getting a single ticket and going alone. THe most you can apply for is four.

So perhaps if we indicate the games we are interested in then we can patch together some groups of 3 or four and enter ballot collectively.

These are the ones that Im interested in (although maybe not all):

South Africa v Uruguay (Pretoria, 16 June) - great to see hosts play and not far to travel but may be very tough to get tickets

Argentina v S Korea (Jo Burg, 17 June)

France v Mexico (Polokwane, 17 June) - but might be a bit too far without the bus (hence Arg v SK preferred)

Ghana v Australia (Rustenburg, 19 June) - definitely

Spain v Honduras (Jo Burg, 21 June) - definitely

Australia v Serbia (Nelspruit, 23 June) - would be good game and possibly decider but would mean traveling to and from nelspruit two days in a row (AWs play their on 24th) unless can get accom in nelspruit for the night.

Me are my brother are gonna apply for these.

Spain Vs. Honduras - Johannesburg (JEP) 21 June
Greece Vs. Argentina - Polokwane 22 June
Ghana Vs. Germany - Johannesburg (JSC) 23 June
Portugal Vs. Brazil - Durban 25 June - bit tricky this one as it is a fair distance from us.  But there are flights that will get us down, and back after the game.

I also thought (bc not doing the kruger tour) of applying for england v algeria in cape town on 18 June but flights seem ridiculously expensive - NZ$1400 return on SA Airways. what airline options are there?

Check out Kulula or Mango - I've booked return flights for two Jo'burg-Durban, one leg on each airline, and it was $450 pp (return).  That's what 1200ZAR comes to via credit card.

I'm keen for Germany v Ghana, and as I said in the other thread I'm applying for the round of 16 match in Durban on the 28th (1E - 2F) and the two Quarter Finals in Jo'burg, games 58 and 60.  These ones are after the YF tour though, but if you fancy sticking around or spending some time in Durban let me know.

Feverish - it's just under 'ticketing' in the FIFA World Cup section.

hmmm we arrive on the 14th June at 6:55am at Johannesburg Airport.  Later that day at 1:30pm, also in Jo'burg,  Netherlands play Denmark.  Who reckons that is do-able?  Could either do a dash to our accommodation and come back again, or hang around for a few hours and chuck our baggage on the bus.

it would be pretty embarrassing, falling asleep during a World Cup match , even if you've been travelling for a day or two

How hard would it be to get from the accommodation in pretoria to Jo'burg, I wonder.  I gather the transport is a bit of an issue, could try to arrange a shuttle though if enough people have tickets to go to the game. (I think you'd need to hit the lodge first to drop off your bags and check in)

I'd say impossible to get to accom and back, but possible to chuck bags on bus, go to game, and then head out to accom - may even be able to arrange to be picked up.

Add this to our meeting agenda Whale.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

With 60 people. On a bus. While the World Cup is on.

by the time the flight is late, customs takes forever, traffic etc, prob not worth the risk. not all will have match tickets either so the bus is going to have to go to accom, it wont be able to sit and wait outside the game.

Only just started reading this thread.

I really am not fussed, would love to see England play, but first game is out as we'll still be in air when the USA game is taking place.
The closer the better so any games in Pretoria or Rustenburg I'm keen, I'll just go with majority, again, just happy to see more than 3 NZ games, as wanna feel the different culture and atmosphere, etc...

so we should have a voting system on this thread to see what we're most doing and then go from there

Hi all, I was going to apply for some tickets and in theory need to name the 'guests' for them.  I'm wondering if it's worth putting some names together for the games listed on the YF tour - I figure I'll go for a couple and find someone keen to go closer to the time, but happy to put someone's name down now.  You can PM me if you're keen - this is for Germany - Ghana.

Addicks, I'm definitely keen for Germany Ghana, Ballack v Essien in midfield, what a matchup! their chelsea friendship will be quickly forgotten!

also keen for

Argentina v S Korea (to see world's best player at the moment in messi would be awesome)

France v Mexico (well no need for introduction), France, dirty cheats, but a team full of stars

Spain v Honduras (might be quite one sided, but would be awesome to see Torres, Xavi, Alonso, Fabregas, David Villa and co.)

not too keen to see Aussies as have seen them before, but if majority rules, don't fussed either just happy to be with the group to see more games as possible.

Hi all, looking at the FIFA site (I've applied for my lot of tickets) you need name, DOB, Passport number, IRD number and cup size (may have made up the last two) and some other details to register a 'guest' when buying tickets for other people.  That's going  be a bit too much work trying to sort all that out.

I know the buyer has to have their credit card and passport when they pick up tickets.  We can only hope that they don't check the name of every one going in - highly unlikely that they will!  Have emailed the ticketing centre about it, just to get the official line

This is what I'm probably going to apply for:
Match 32 - Spain v Honduras - 21 June 20:30 Ellis Park
Match 24 - Ghana v Australia - 19 June 16:00 Royal Bafokeng
Match 20 - Argentina v Korea Republic - 17 June 13:30 Soccer Match 39 - Ghana v Germany - 23 June 20:30 Soccer City Match 45 - Portugal v Brazil - 25 June 16:00 Moses Mabhida
Although I've got Ghana twice, would be cool to see aussie and also germany. Soccer City is a must.
Portugal Brazil may be a mish but defo worth watching

Thoughts?

I can only apply for a second Team-Specific Ticket for NZ, not individual matches.
It's still Jan 22nd, but it looks like I'm frozen out :-(

Bevan - are you using the NZ PMC site, or the general public site?  I just edited my application and was able to.

Not anything with NZ or PMC in it.

I was tempted to apply for the spain honduras and aussie ghana too, now that I'm worried about missing out.

I'm using the main FIFA site:
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/organisation/ticketing/applyfor/index.html

I can't amend my existing NZ TST-4 application as this has already been granted.
And can only add a new application for NZ.

Maybe you can only do one or the other...  or you've alrady had your application, and you only get one.

Seems like good news for us....
Two million tickets sold for 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa
(FIFA.com) Wednesday 27 January 2010

After three of five ticketing sales phases for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, two-thirds of the available tickets have been sold.

The third ticketing sales phase, which will conclude with a random draw for oversubscribed matches on 1 February, saw a total of 1,206,865 applications received from 192 countries. Six matches are currently oversubscribed (in all categories), among them the semi-finals and the final. In total, 55 matches are oversubscribed in at least one category.

There was huge interest from South African residents, who accounted for 79 per cent of the total applications received (958,381) in this phase. This represents an increase of 24.9 per cent in applications from South African residents in the third sales phase when compared to the earlier ticketing stages.

Apart from the host country, the USA led the ticketing standings for the third phase with 50,217 applications, followed by the UK (41,529), Australia (15,523), Mexico (14,804), Germany (14,647) and Brazil (10,767). Increased interest was also noted in the neighbouring countries of South Africa Botswana leading with 2,519 ticket applications, followed by Mozambique (1,795) and Namibia (1,191).

The next ticketing sales phase will start on 9 February 2010 and end on 7 April 2010. During these 58 days, more than 400,000 tickets will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis via www.fifa.com/2010 or in FNB branches (in South Africa only).

From 15 April 2010 onwards, ticketing centres will be open in each host city (with two in Johannesburg) where fans will be able to buy tickets over the counter and also collect their confirmed tickets.

To further enhance the service, ticketing call centres will be open during the fourth sales phase both internationally and in the host country. The call centres will assist fans with enquiries and applications. The hotline number for international customers is 0041445832010, and for domestic customers 0831232010.

For residents of the host country, the allocation of category 4 tickets (the most affordable, for South African residents only starting from USD 20/ZAR 140) will, as planned, increase significantly.

my friend who has been to the WC 2002, and applied tickets the same way said I should be fine

but I just don't wanna celebrate too prematurely, otherwise it'd just feel like scoring a goal and then celebrated and then found out that you're offside or something

thanks jd

I just checked fifa.com and it states my applications have been paid for the NZ tickets and the 3 other games I applied for (Argie vs Korea, and Ghana vs Germany and Aussie).

All good stuff

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
