And to add to the contradiction - an Australian player is not an import for the Phoenix, but a NZ player is for an Australian A League team. Go figure? I think it's called double standards.

You know why this is, it has nothing to do with Aussie and everything to do with Asia.  Nuff said...

More Importantly:

I always thought ACFC had a very good side in the first season of the NZFC.  Would the ACFC that just cleaned up beat the ACFC of the inaugural season.  I don't think so.

Thoughts?

Two different styles. The earlier team was more direct while Ramon's current emphasis is on careful possession. Jordan was the premier striker who could conjure a shot out of nothing but Tade is now running him a close second. Think it would be an interesting match-up and in my opinion fairly evenly matched. Judging by results, was the 2009 team the best considering their heroics at the Club World Cup? Probably James Pritchett is the man to ask, he has played for ACFC from the outset.

You are letting nostalgia cloud your judgement. The current team would win comfortably.

I agree that the current team would and also all this chat about whether a phoenix reserve team could play in OFC is a waste of time because they wouldn't win the ASB Premiership. ACFC would be far to strong for them. I don't even think they would finish in top three!

They would once Sam Burfoot has joined the Nix.

I told Sammy to stay at ACFC, then he'll win some silverware and play in a major Fifa international tournament.

By the way when I mentioned winning silverware I don't count wooden spoons (puts on tin hat). I think the lad will see sense.

Bloody glad that ACFC got through to the next round of this year's CWC - with all games being in Fiji it could be might difficult for either ACFC or TW to qualify next time.
