As a former OFC TV camera operator who did a bunch of ASB Premiership games and one or two OFC Champions League tournaments over the years, I have to say Sky's broadcast was a pretty disappointing (though not surprising).

Sky's cameras are certainly higher quality but Sunday's opening match was only a two-camera setup. For any live match for OFC TV, there would always be at least four manned cameras plus two go pros behind each goal. Sky also made several errors with their very basic graphics and as usual, had no post-match interviews which were standard for OFC, even for YouTube.

Quite a let down after that quality promo video with the paint. I hope NZF aren't paying much because that broadcast would have cost Sky nothing.

I thought it was very amateurish coverage. Don't these guys watch EPL (or even eggball) and learn anything about the power of closing in on the action?

Hello. Looking at the advisory specs for the Sky coverage of the Waibop-Wellington game at Gower Park on Sunday, there will be six cameras, main ones on scaffolding above the coaching dugouts.

Keeping a tight budget on the broadcast - Can see why as this is an "experiment" for Sky TV

So will there be room for me too Bruce?

If this is going to be a match thread- any chance of there being the time of the next game put on the thread?

If this isn't going to be a match thread is there any chance of a match thread with the time of the next game, or a round thread with the time of the next game in the title?

that would be awesome for the lazy and busy....

Why was the opening game held on such an atrocious field?

On a positive note, Auckland's second half was actually entertaining to watch

Trouble is tonights game against Hawkes Bay is on the same pitch! Hopefully the groundsmen have had chance to work some miracles......

this whole thing was always going to have teething problems.  the temptation is to expect instant perfection.  they are trying to build something here and IMHO this is a very good start

the footy is very watchable. they are familiarizing us with the players.  like chopah said, having stafford is a very nice touch.  the presentation is very good.  acfc play nice footy.  refereeing was good and so many other positives and a few things to work on

Im happy with the coverage so far just wish the commentator would do a little more homework and actually name the right players during his commentary! He keeps getting players mixed up. Suppose over time he will get it right but I find it very frustrating when he says a players name and its the wrong one!

Just a little gripe and its not his fault the pitch is terrible!

i reckon larmer will get better.  i was a little surprised he knew as much as he did

i'm already past the point of no return with dewhurst, so i NEED larmer to be a success!

I quite enjoy Larmer. His measuring stick is Dewhurst so he going to be enjoyable.

I agree with all this.

I would add, if you support a team, as I do Canterbury United, it's also great to be able to see some of their away games or record a  game off the TV if you're away on holiday over the summer.

Apparently the viewing figures have been abysmal so far - but you expect that in NZ:

Niall Anderson‏     @NiallGunner

Out of 67 Sky Sport shows yesterday, ASB Prem rated 50th, despite being 2 hours long. Less people viewed ASBP than MUTV, kinda the problem

Don't get me wrong I think Larmer is head and shoulders more entertaining (and better) than Andrew 'Ill have a chat with Harry while the game goes on in the background' Dewhurst.

He actually commentates on the game! Just needs to work on his player names a little

I was thoroughly impressed with Larmer! Found that I was enjoying the game more because of his comments, which is what a commentator should be. Great stuff.

he does say some odd stuff at times. But doesn't talk just to fill empty air, and when he does it adds to the game. Which is what a commentator should be there for.

Totally this. I thought Larmer was so good I even bothered to send someone a Facebook message to say so.

I'm finding aspects of the New Zealand Football Weekly a bit incongruous however... like a highlights package that leaves out the very bits that the interviewed captain afterwards then feels obligated to mention as the turning points of the match...

And what's with the weird change of camera angles and focus halfway through everything that the Young Talking Haircut says in introducing or wrapping anything.

Or is it just me?

Great to have a weekly summary programme back for the first time in about a decade... now just waiting for the grown-up version.

Yeah, they've got the whole HIGHLIGHTS = GOALS problem. Which ain't true at all.

I suspect if they showed the bits that the WaiBOP captain referred to, it could be a messy time at NZF scrambling to justify that horror show performance from the ref.

Nah not just you. The camera angle changes are annoying. Bloke who hosts it seems a bit awkward too.

But yeah, it is great to have a show like that back.

Highlights? Highlights.

Thanks Balbi.  The commentator sounds a bit like a 12th Man parody but doesn't speak BS like a certain Sky commentator.  Queslity is better than I remember too.

For those talking about "goals" highlights, The Football League Show here inthe UK on Channel 5 is absolutely terrible for this.  drags on for 1.5 hours and shows about 20 seconds per match.  Over an hour of waffling nodding heads talk BS like Dewhurst.

So who to put my money on, I beat on Waitak last weekend and went with Team Welly over WaiBop but Waibop did well and only lost at the end and from all accounts (see Patrick tweeting), Waitak didn't sound like they put what should have been an easy game away.

Glen Larmer doing a good job of commentary. Wow WaiBop storming ahead! 3 - 0 after 20 min. Will the pitch look any better for the Nix game in a few weeks?

waitakere are simply awful and utterly incapable of playing the ball out from the back - everything was a hoof, even when they had time to play

butler is their only decent player, as usual he was tidy with a high work rate.  berry looks promising in patches and bowen looked good when he came on

if i was in charge of an asb franchise, i'd want peter smith coaching my team.  his side looked very well organised and played at a nice high tempo
