Well congratulations to WaiBop then.
If your wanting to " showcase " NZ football don't ever have a game that involves Southern. Football down south must be in a very bad state!

League is pants, gets worse every year, they've had a few injuries, players leaving & players unavailable (work) tbf but yeah, need to bring back the south island league to lift the standard.
$1.75 odds on Waibop was good fun though

I wouldn't say it's in a bad state. I just think it's the reality of their existence. They represent an area with the smallest playing and population base which only goes down over the summer as many players return home for the summer. By virtue of that, as well as having the smallest budget, it means that they can often produce a competitive starting XI, but when the side get's decimated by injuries/work commitments, it affects Southern more than others.
There's no easy fix for that, but they certainly weren't awful tonight, they're just a wee bit behind.
The gulf was not insurmountable.
But as a spectacle, I found it the least captivating since the televised matches have been broadcast.
Next week's game against Waitakere will probably be a better barometer of whether Waibop have enough in the tank to make the playoffs before they disappear off the map.
some more interesting transfers:
Gwyther heads back to Team Wellington and Tavano is back for ACFC.
Southern United | International Transfers | Ruka, Rhys | Approved |
Waitakere United | Northern Football Federation (NFF) | Cain, Ryan | Approved |

Waitakere United | Team Wellington | Gwyther, Michael | Approved |
Southern United | Team Wellington | Joy, Matt | Approved |
International Transfers | WaiBOP United | Morris, Sean | Pending |
Capital Football Federation | Team Wellington | O'Keeffe, Michael | Approved |
International Transfers | Auckland City | Rivas Rego, Diego | Pending |
International Transfers | Auckland City | Tavano, Fabrizio | Pending |
Team Wellington | Wellington Phoenix | Lane, Nicholas | Pending |
Northern Football Federation (NFF) | Wellington Phoenix | Sinclair, Jack-Henry | Approved |
We'd you get that list from Chopah
Apparently some of those transfers are for O-league purposes. Teams have to name a 32 playing squad today, so looks like TeeDubs (and maybe ACFC?) are casting the net wide in case those players want to play later on.
I attended last nights game and found it rather boring. WaiBop controlled the ball well but didn't really do much with it, although Southern played with 11 behind the ball and tried to survive. I think a number of Waibops players weren't at their best which didn't help. Yep, scored three goals but are going to have to get a lot sharper to reach the play offs. Will be interested to see how they fare against Waitakere next week.
What about the three club rule does it still apply these days, if it does will it stop Gwyther playing winter league
I think you'll find the three club rule applies per league i.e. Northen League is separate from Summer League.
I have been really impressing with Mark Jones.
I could never stand him as a footballer until about 18 months ago. He is still a bit of a sharkhead on the field from what I can see and he still does need to get in control of his emotions (ala Chad Coombes) but he has potential to go further if he can realise his weakness and sort it.
He has pace, ball control, and a hell of an engine. All the kind of things Ernie likes (devils advocate)
ifill to hawkes bay united ?

He's already there, he came of the bench for the last 15 minutes last week against Team Wellington
Watching this game only makes me wish harder than Piney could do the Phoenix games for Sky!
Next game is Auckland City v Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.
Appears Nix getting a lot of the TV games or is it just me?

So I was bored and thought I would check this out, appears that the worst off are HBU and SU with 4 and 5 respectively. (HBU also have had all their 4 already aired.)
Think Team Wellington might be low because they can't have Sky TV set up at their home games, Waitakere United are probably so high as noone would have guess they are as shark as they have been.
Auckland City | 11 |
Canterbury United | 7 |
Hawke's Bay United | 4 |
Southern United | 5 |
Team Wellington | 5 |
WaiBop United | 10 |
Waitakere United | 10 |
Wellington Phoenix | 6 |
All taken from this, so there may have been TV game changes that I missed.
Great round so far, hope the WeeNix get something against ACFC
Win against Auckland on Thursday would be big for TeeDubs but they will have to play better than they did today against Canterbury. Would make the race for top four really tight too.
So Chang said it hit his shoulder. I watched the replay last night and if by shoulder he meant elbow, then sure, it hit his shoulder. It was quite an obvious handball so he really should not bleat in the press when there is coverage of it.
As JV says...elbow
Thursday sees the catch-up game between Auckland City and Team Wellington. City are currently on an unbeaten run of 21 matches while Team Wellington need a win or a draw to move into fourth place.
bloody sky, enabling match fixing by showing the ASB Premiership etc etc.
in before someone else :-)
predicting most of the results would be a lottery ;>)..we can well do without scrutiny of results of games. What a scourge this sports gambling is.

5 - 5. Bet someone cleaned up there.

How many ASBP prem games are there? 59 including finals? If you spread the amount of betting over all games and all the online gambling sites, it's like $4,237 per game, per bookie. Obviously it's not spread evenly, that's what they need to be vigilant about - instances of abnormally high bets.
There were 72 games last, which I think is the period that are talking about. Around $3000 per game per agency.

So, one of the few times TVNZ decide to report on local football (incl. HAL), is it THAT much of story?
Edit: Wouldn't it be nice if they also focussed on the local comps and not so much on speculative scandal.
Might put a tenner on an ACFC TeeDubs cardfest.
Do you know the result Jerzy?
Still a bit of patches at Albany but not as horrendous as last time the Nix played
Yeah pitch started looking a lot better
For a supposedly amateur competition the quality of play is pretty damn amazing from both sides. The refs were pretty good too though lots of cards. I hope the teams in this comp keep improving, who knows maybe one day we can have a professional league in Oceania.

My boat came in!

Match fixing
looked like a foul in the lead up to the goal. Ref will say shoulder to shoulder but think he pushed him in the back
