Congrats to Canterbury United Pride who beat Capital 2-0 in the final today, Holly Pascoe getting both goals

Was a great live stream from Canterbury United, its a shame that NZF don't value the women's game enough to get the final on TV.

Congrats to Capital who exceeded all expectations this season

Its been a great season but way to short and it doesn't seem like that will change, apparently next seasons league will have the top 4 clubs from the Northern League with Central, Capital, Mainland & Southern for one round only

Still it means NZF will get their $50k from FIFA for running a National Women's League, that will help with their admin costs!

Next season will be the same format as this season. The proposal out at the moment is for the 18-19 summer onwards.

ah OK, although as I understand it there is only one proposal - and it is still only for one round which is just stupid

Quick back-of-the-envelope calculation, and 50k is around what the league in its current format costs to run. 23 games gives just over 2 grand per game, and NZF pay for flights for 18 people (plus a ref normally), which is about $115 per person for flights. (This is assuming everyone flies everywhere, which is wrong, but it gives an idea.)

Great news, did a fantastic job last season (along with co-coach Sam Morrisey)

Good that Cap Football have done this now and properly planning for the next season

Who saw the Auckland highlights against Capital? Left back was certainly an issue area for us (cap). I am not sure who that player was, but she does not quite have the pace for that position in this league... Also we certainly struggled in the centre-mid to regain the ball and/or fee our strikers. Looking at the highlights Michaela Robertson looked like one of only a few who wanted to win the game.

lol at the open goal miss from six yards

Left back- was it Libby boobyer in first half? Looked ok for pace if not pushing forward- just maybe not a position well known to her (not sure)?

Hand for Akld looked handy (no pun intended)

Yes it was Libby Boobyer, has played for Central and Northern before coming to Wellington. Played for Petone last season, not sure why she didn't go to a W-League club.

Tessa McPherson would usually be in that position but she is out injured for the season.

Boobyer did put in  a great shift today, provided the cross for Maggie Jenkins to score a a cracker of a goal with her first touch after coming on, and also made a vital goal line clearance to help ensure the 1-0 win over Central

The Southern v Northern game will be streamed on Sunday via youtube.

Link:

It is a bit of a test run so don't expect anything too flash!

Keep an eye out on the Southern United social media for updates about this if there are any changes.

Great late winner for Canty Pride to win 1-0. Excellent that it's on the youtube machine too.

Yes great result with the Pride now moving into 2nd place on the table behind Southern United - via the head to head result clause.

Southern united women's team are guaranteed a finals spot and could even get a home final if they beat Capital on Sunday, not bad for a team that had only one 1 game in 10 years before this season!

here is an interview I did with 2 ex Capital players now at Southern, Mikela Hunt & Emily Morison

Can someone please explain what sort of randomness occurred today in order for Canty to go top and Southern to get 4th but in the semi...

Southern are third, head to head is the tiebreaker. Three teams began on 10 points, Canty got to 13, Auckland (on 9) got to 12, Southern and Northern both lost so stayed on 10.

Yes Pride directly in to the Grand Final on 10 December with Southern travelling north to take on Auckland in the play-off final next week-end.

2nd year in a row Northern have missed out on the finals to a last minute goal

Southern beat the right teams - the ones at the top (Canterbury, Auckland & Northern) while they lost to Central (Bottom), Capital (5th) and drew with WaiBOP (6th)

Great to see Southern actually being competitive, (they had won 1 game in the last 10 years before this season!) hope they can go all the way but have a feeling Canterbury will do it again

This league really really needs to be 2 rounds!

For the first time the National Women's League Final will be live on TV.

Grand Final: Canterbury United Pride vs Auckland / Southern:
Sunday 10 December, 1.35pm
English Park, Christchurch:
Live on SKY Sport 3

http://www.nzfootball.co.nz/live-coverage-confirmed-for-womens-final/

Should be a good crowd in for this one.

Four current Football Ferns in the Canterbury lineup were in the squad for the Thailand tour this week (Longo, Moore, Phillips, Esson)

Longo and Moore played the full 90 vs. Thailand mid-week

Longo had an assist and a goal.

Goalkeeper Victoria Esson made her Ferns debut when she came on as a sub in the second half.

Canterbury striker Aimee Phillips was on the bench.

Big Pete 65, Christchurch

Mainland Football have been doing a bloody good job of streaming their games this season, their first game they broadcast was excellent.

It's a shame they can't for the final as well, instead it'll be tucked away on pay tv.

Sky should be broadcasting a game a week like the Men's competition. (although my preference would be all games live streamed)
