New format

Stage 1: Preliminary Competition for the national league champions of American Samoa, Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga which will open the competition calendar in 2017. For the first time two teams from this competition will progress to Stage 2, the Group Stage of the OFC Champions League, both the preliminary winner and the runner-up.

Stage 2: contested by 16 teams – two each from Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu - which will be drawn into four groups, each one hosted in a different venue. A round-robin league system will be adopted to determine the top team in each group, the four teams will progress to Stage 3, or the semi-finals.

Stage 3:A draw will be held involving the four qualified teams to determine their respective opponents for the home-and-away semi-final with the winners progressing to the fourth and final stage.

Stage 4: The two match home-and-away final will determine the winner of the 2017 OFC Champions League and the OFC representative at the FIFA Club World Cup 2017.

home and away final is strange, but good for us.

I don't like the home and away final. Makes it too easy for Auckland City.

Home and away final has been around before - Waitakere once lost one...

home and away finals were used for 7 OCL's from 2007 - 2012 & then 2014, Waitakere won 2, Hekari United (PNG) won 1 (against Waitakere United) & Auckland City won 4

I don't think its the format of the finals that helps Auckland City win!

Well it just makes it easier for an already dominant team to win it again. Island teams are unlikely to cause an upset, especially over two legs. Team Wellington will inevitably choke. So yep, just makes it easy for Auckland City. Whereas a one match final brings more unpredictability to the table and makes it more exciting overall if you ask me.

But does the single final mean the better team always qualifies for the CWC?

Using that logic we should have a best of seven series for every final like the NBA. The best team doesn't always win, much like Euro 2016, Euro 2004, OFC Champions League 2010 arguably etc., but the team that wins almost always deserves it.

During the poll 2 draw someone wrongly put two Papuan teams in the same group, but didn't realize until the poll 4, then drew from poll 2 once again.

Not as bad as the UEFA Champions League draw to be honest. Ian Rush couldn't even open those balls, it was tough to watch.

I'd suggest opposite side. On & behind the wooden seating.

I believe their will be a roped off area in the main stand. Wgtn will just take over this space. #DislodgeTheLocals

Bucketman doesn't stay behind the fence now, he has a stepladder he sets up on the main stand side ??
