So since the league started las Sunday - well the Charity Cup game was also a league game - and the first proper round is on thos weekend here's my picks for the season

1 Auckland City

2 Eastern Suburbs

3 Team Wellington

4 Canterbury United

5 Hawkes Bay United

6 Waitakere United

7 Southern United

8 Wanderers

9 Tasman United

10 Wellington Phoenix

I think places 5-9 will be close but will involve those teams

Final Auckland City v Canterbury United Auckland win

Just nit-picking......

With your finishing order in the league Auckland City will play Canterbury United  (1 plays 4) in the semifinal hence the final cannot be between those two teams.

thats true - for some reason I've gone 1v 3 2v 4 ? well to call it Auckland City v Team Wellington final again then (relying on Oleastsuburbs to have imploded by then)

We should know the answer to that by early in the new year. The number of minutes Harry Edge plays should be a good guide.

similar pickings to yours:

1 Auckland City

2 Canterbury United

3 Team Wellington

4 Eastern Suburbs

5 Hawkes Bay United

6 Southern United

7 Waitakere United

8 Wanderers

9 Tasman United

10 Wellington Phoenix

I can imagine Waitakere will implode mid season.

is there a highlights show this season for the ISPS?

I haven't seen one on Sky last week or this.

I think NZ Football have misconceived the coverage.

Having watched some of the Waitakere v Team Wellington game broadcast on the weekend, I think that the quailty of the league doesn't justify broadcasting complete games.

I recorded the match and ended up fast-forwarding most of it just to see the few highlights.

Wouldn't it be a better investment of resources to just have a highlights show covering all the games?

Could stretch it to one hour with interviews, discussion, football news and reports on Kiwis playing overseas.

Believe not that is why clubs are allowed to 'stream' their games this season, if it is not the 'live' game on Sky.

Needs to be a club based national league.

Yeah, Sky broadcast/record one game per week only now and put together a short highlights for it on YouTube.

Last year they recorded all games, broadcasting one live, and then had a highlights show.

Year before they recorded all games, broadcasted one, highlights show and YouTube highlights.

A 'Match of the day' each week on YouTube would be superb.

I posted this on another thread but damn NZF needs to get their shark sorted and hook up with Spark for a broadcasting deal.

Spark has just cut a deal to do local broadcasting of the NZ National Hockey League.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/opinion/108413923/spark-sports-streaming-plans-increases-rivalry-with-sky

The deal will neary entirely involve broadcasting hockey internationals involving the men's and women's Black Sticks and is not really about coverage of the NZ National Hockey League for which there is a very small audience (that's just mentioned as an afterthought - you might get the odd game or the final).

That opinion piece you link has it wrong.

Spark have secured rights to FIH (International Hockey Federation) games.

Including Spark being host broadcaster for the FIH Pro Series home games involving NZ sides. They will sell these matches to other countries for a profit:

http://hockeynz.co.nz/News/spark-sport-secures-rig...

So, it's the equivalent of broadcasting All Whites and Football Ferns games and the FIFA World Cup and other FIFA tournaments rather than the ISPS Handa Premiership.

Spark would probably not be interested in investing in equipment and staff to broadcast live ISPS Handa domestic club matches on their own.

Not without a deal similar to the hockey whereby they could broadcast internationals, FIFA tournaments, Club World Cup, OFC Nations Cup etc.

NZ Football might still have to pay them for the national league broadcasts as with Sky.

Which is why Sky has a monopoly on football coverage (apart from the EPL) - they find it attractive to have rights to multiple football tournaments and leagues with some drawing bigger audiences like the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League, while they can carry less-viewed events like the A-League too.

So, where do we get results? Nothing on the official site

These cods shouldn't be running our game, they're a fudgeing joke

This is literally the first story on nzfootball.co.nz right now, and the results are all in the results tab on the ISPS Handa Premiership page.

Thanks Andrew

However, nothing was there just prior to me posting my comment, just last week's results and last week's articles, plus the preview article for this week and this week's fixtures

If it was a site caching issue, I will partially retract my abuse, but even then...

Last weekends highlights from Suburbs vs City

2:40 for the goal / not goal.

Hard to tell - but I think no goal is the correct call here. Looks like Zubi gets to it before the whole ball crosses from the last angle (behind the goal).

Yeah i think that's probably correct - in the absence of any other information the call the referee made is correct.

Why wouldn't the highlights show Manickums dribbling effort that was cleared off the goal line?

Is the standard still getting better in peoples opinions??

Seems to be a couple more youngsters this year across the teams which is exciting to see.

That would require Sky to employ someone who had any knowledge of football.

Lots of decent moments missed.

So, yeah, 6.38pm, no results on the official site

I'd love to be more interested in this league, but those that run it aren't so why bother?

Dude, you must work in marketing

Apologies for wanting proper coverage of our national league. I'll be sure to dial my interest down from now on. Rest assured, if I fail to reduce my interest accordingly, I'll be sure to follow on twitter.

Great to see some teams finally doing a good job of streaming matches. Now just need the big guns like ACFC and Team Wellington to get off their arse and do it.

How does one easily find out who is streaming what and when

Permalink Permalink

Yeah make sure you follow their twitter and Facebook pages. The clubs don't do a good job of promoting the streams in advance but it wouldn't surprise me if that's because it's a bit of an on-the-day proposition (they're probably relying on one person to put it all together on the day of the game)

I was thinking quite a bit of WeeNix too, but that also could be they were the main two on TV

Yeah, apart from Zubikarai's howler I don't think any of those were actually ACFC stuff-ups. Unless you count the dog and the sprinklers.
