good game to watch, a deserved win. God knows what was said to get that red card, It was not a controversial goal at all. Well done Team Wellington.

Again, I thought O'Leary refereed an excellent and fair game to both teams. Other referees (Notably Australian ones) please take note.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I think now that Auckland has been beaten once beating them again won't be anywhere near as hard.

Was it really the first time we have beaten them ever? or just first time in Auckland?

Listened from Oz on Radio Sport, was a lot of fun. I'm curious about this Sam Blackburn, couldn't find anything on Google. Anyone?
What was the Red for?
Have to say at 2-1 I thought it was all over for TW!
Can anyone tell me where the Trusts Stadium for the final is?

A very entertaining game IMO, good to see given NZFC's limited exposure that a game played live was good to watch. Also the Extra time goals and a decent bit of info on Prime News, so well done to them for noticing :)

Sam B - young, right winger, excellent ball skills, ginger headed, been coming off the bench last few matches - others will know more about him

red -for opening his gob to whine about the pen - i think

agreed we went a bit flatt after conceding those 2 in 3 mins and with our record it was hard to stay optimistic, to (mis)quote the Scotsman with the red nose "football eh, bloody hell"

That is one hell of a result. Great to see. $5.75 for the win too, even better with a lazy hungee on it. Well done all connected with TW, you've worked damn hard for the chance to be on top.

Dont think the win pays out does it?  90 minute draw?  Anyway, congrats to TW, listened from late in the 1st half once i got home from football, actioned, packed, wish I had sky to enjoy it!

$5.75 to progress was the bet. Good odds as it covered more eventualities. Who cares anyway, we won, brilliant result

Just saw the replay and could hear someone repeatedly yelling out "You're just a homo!"

Where is that guy Happy Ted when you need him? Isn't that the biggest misnomer of all time. I mean, his posts are the most negative of any on this whole forum, and that's really saying something. Happy? Gordon Bennett, imagine how happy he's feeling at the moment.

Yeeeeeeeeeees! Quality result. Looks like I'll be abandoning the wife and kids and heading for the Wild West to watch them win the Final.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Never taken much notice of this O League before, but if Auckland and Waitakere have played in it in the past at the same time, has this result given us an in?

"Never taken much notice of this O League before, but if Auckland and Waitakere have played in it in the past at the same time, has this result given us an in?"

In order to qualify for the 2008-9 OFC Champions League, Team Wellington has to win the Grand Final. Should Waitakere United win that match, the second qualifying spot will be awarded to the team which finished second in the premiership phase of the NZFC, i.e. Auckland City.

It presents an intriguing mental image, this one - the sight of ACFC fans cheering on Waitakere next Sunday afternoon, albeit grudgingly.

And another one quickly follows it - should Team Wellington prevail, the ACFC conspiracy theorists will be out in force, proclaiming that Waitakere deliberately lost the final to prevent their arch-rivals from qualifying for the O-League ...

Suffice to say, there's plenty riding on next Sunday's clash.

Meantime, here's the most comprehensive match report on yesterday's semi you'll find anywhere:

This will also appear on www.sportswebsoccer.com later today, along with NZFC and Northern League (men's and women's) round-ups, and the latest profile in the weekly series focusing on the Young Ferns.

Cheers,

What a dilemma for Auckland City fans next weekend. Having to support Waitakere for their O-League spot.

I would honestly be surprised if you saw Ted posting in this NZFC forum again. He's just finished eating his warm plate of crow and it presents the ultimate irony that he will have to support Waitakere next week. For once, I bet he is hoping they are not the chokers he insists they are.  They've had 3 championships and played well in the past, but you can't win forever. Ask Liverpool supporters that from the 80s. Because his team is now no longer the dominate force it was, there is no reason to post in this forum other than to bash everyone else, trash Waitakere (chokers was it?) and trash the Nix.

Just started watching the game and 10 mins in, I would say that one of the reasons that Auckland lost (without having watched the game) is the line-up. Hardly an awe inspiring team to be scared of...

If Team Wellington wins the grand final. It would be interesting what happens during the end of season transfers. Those Korean players may chose to between Waitakere or Wellington. Although Waitakere has the local advantage. But either way both Waitakere and Wellington are going to get stronger and Auckland may have to look closer at the players from the Auckland Manaukau regions.

Thats true. The travelling Welly fans didnt really sing, apart from the one guy doing monkey chants (and I hope they weren't directed at any non-white players)

Maybe the Monkey sounds were to make the TW boys feel like they were playing at home, considering Newtown Park is next to the zoo and you can hear and see the monkeys clearly on match day? Just a thought.
I seriously doubt there would be any racist connotation to it.
