This is from the NZFC site, and it's probably on the ACFC site too.

I have just one question. Why on earth? What the frig is this going to achieve? Of all the hair-brained schemes...

Auckland City and the Vodafone Warriors will join forces for a night next week.

The Warriors - New Zealands only NRL Club - and defending NZFC champions Auckland City will be holding a joint training session at Mt Smart Stadium on Tuesday 25 March 2008.

The session will commence at 6:30pm.

All media are welcome to attend.

Probably a joint fitness session and a lesson on how to run effectively or sometime like that and then a maybe little game of Aussie rules. They could some drill without balls and some drills patterns that can be done with both types of balls.

Just a publicity stunt.

I wonder if Happyted will show up protesting that the Warriors are technically an Australian team and that everyone should be supporting their local Bartercard Cup team  robbwatson2008-03-22 20:05:51

Only problem is Graham Lowe in his wisdom, not content in nearly stuffing the Warriors, goes one better and stuffs the game in the regions with his decision to can the Bartercard Cup.
If you think the NZFA is badly run, they look like geniuses compared to the retards and brain-damaged morons who have run NZ rugby league over the past 100 years.

As for training with the Warriors, it is what is known as a media photo opportunity. There will be people there with cameras, TV and press, and the hope is that they may get a little more coverage.

It is a vain hope, but at least they are trying something.

And to think that one of these folk took on, as his next job, CEO of NZ Soccer.

Cue an unhealthy infatuation with fiscal prudence at the expense / near-strangulation of our international programme, a situation which has thankfully been rectified under the current stewardship.

I'm straying off-topic a tad, but when one compares the respective tenures of Bill MacGowan and Graham Seatter, I'm reminded of a certain question once asked of King Kenny Dalglish, the answer to which reads:

"The people who come to watch us play, who love the team and regard it as part of their lives, would never appreciate Liverpool having a huge balance in the bank. They want every asset we possess to be wearing a red shirt".

I'm sure that philosophy (with the changing of a couple of key words in strategic places) applies where the followers of New Zealand football and/or Wellington Phoenix are concerned.

Cheers,

JR

Ah, that'll be the Warriors fault. Aussie team getting all the publicity while the local game dies on it's arse, etc, etc, etc............

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

As you barely manage wit or fact that is highly amusing.

I do notice however you don't mention your position on the Warriors or the hypocrisy inherent in Auckland City training with and by association condoning an 'Australian' side... could it be that you support the Warriors and refuse to own up to that samne hypocrisy ?

*cough* Don't forget baskeball. The Australian Breakers are an absolute menace to the game and destroy the fabric of the Dominion Finance NBL and Tall Blacks programme...... *cough*

Cool down fellas....it's just a joint training session between two of Auckland's higher profile sports teams. Nothing too much to read into it other than something a little lighthearted for both teams and a chance for players and management alike to meet, bounce a few ideas off each other and support one another. I believe it came about due an to an association developed between the two club a few years ago. In the first year of the NZFC, ACFC organised that charity fundraiser for victims of the South East Asia Tsunami, raised approx $30k for Red Cross from memory. The '82 All Whites played a team of celebs at Kiwitea St that included Ivan Cleary, when he was still a player at the club. He was apparently impressed with the setup and organisation at the club and has followed their progress ever since. He was a very competent footballer as a youngster before swapping to league and apparently has Croatian heritage. Seems quite an innovative initiative to me...

It's not a bad idea Uli, good promotion for both codes... well done to your lot.

The problem seems to be mostly related to Phil's position on issues relating to the Phoenix.

Its good to know that Auckland City is a "high profile" sports team. Must be all that TV coverage they get.
