Is this competition going ahead for the six teams not in the O League?
If it is how about NZF get off their backsides and put something out about it, at least on the ASB prem & NZF web sites.
I can understand maybe wanting to wait till that other thing has finished so as to get more column cms but let the people who follow Football know what is coming up.

I take from the lack of reply that not much is known about this.
NZF had put some mention of it to clubs earlier on in the build up to the season.
Just another low key Football game [maybe].
No wonder kids give Football away after about 13 or 15 years of age if this is how the national body promotes anything, by then the kids can see the other code gives better value for money.
Why wouldn't kids go and play the other sport when you get a luxury coach and full kit put on at no cost to parent's to get them to a park for midweek sport.

I heard it was going ahead but only for the six non Auckland ASB Prem League side. To be played when Waitakere and Auckland away with O League games. AllWhites822011-10-21 15:26:06

Finally some answers:
The Community Cup was to be played in two conferences with Canterbury, Otago United and Team Wellington contesting the southern division and Youngheart Manawatu, Hawke's Bay United and Waikato FC the northern section.

The conferences were to played on a home-and-away basis with some games to be played in provincial venues such as Nelson, Timaru and Queenstown. The two winners were to meet in a national final.

NZF chief executive Grant McKavanagh said yesterday the board approved the Community Cup proposal on Thursday but there were "still some funding issues" to be resolved. He said it was not dead in the water and hoped it could still kick off later in the season.

"We want to get it up and running. This year we are trying a lot of different things but next year we will definitely have them in place."

Why would they announce it if it wasn't 100% confirmed? Do they actually enjoy the ridicule and grief that comes with such poor mismanagement?

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

They need to save money for the G & Ts at board meetings.

The whole ASB Premiership is a joke with gaps in the comp and only 14 rounds.
How can a sponsor get value for money from that & without TV coverage.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/6058505/Canterbury-Uniteds-Kamo-unlikely-for-first-round
Canterbury United forward Russell Kamo is almost certainly out of the first round of a new national football competition.

New Zealand Football has introduced a series for the six ASB premiership teams not involved in the Oceania Champions League (O-League).

The cup competition will be played in two sections with Canterbury, Team Wellington and Otago United forming the southern conference and Youngheart Manawatu, Hawke's Bay United and Waikato FC in the northern conference.

Each team will play two conference games with the winners of each section playing off in a national final.

Canterbury open their campaign on Sunday in Wellington against Team Wellington, who they beat 1-0 in a premiership match in Christchurch last Sunday. They will play Otago in Christchurch in January.

But Kamo, who has been Canterbury captain while Dan Terris has an injury-enforced absence, is an unlikely starter. He suffered concussion on Sunday after an accidental blow to his temple when colliding with an opponent's elbow.

"It's highly unlikely Russell will be on course for the weekend," Canterbury coach Keith Braithwaite said. "He wasn't feeling too flash after the game or the day after, but he's on the mend now."

Braithwaite said it was good to have the new cup competition confirmed after "it was on, then it was off". "It gives us an opportunity to try a few different things in the cup and give some of the squad players a run to keep their fitness levels up."

Terris, who has not played this season after hamstring and ankle injuries, may return on Sunday.

"This is the type of game where we could ideally look to give him and Nick Wortelboer half a game each," Braithwaite said.

Fullback Wortelboer Canterbury's player of the year last season has also missed the first four national league matches with a hamstring injury.

New Zealand Football national league manager Glyn Taylor said the cup competition was designed to play on O-League dates.

National league clubs have been keen on the subsidiary cup competition concept because of the stop-start nature of the premiership.

Mike Coggan, chief executive of Mainland Football which runs Canterbury United, said earlier this month that the six remaining clubs were at a disadvantage because New Zealand O-League representatives Auckland City and Waitakere United were playing football every week and were able to maintain momentum.

I see Waikato are leading Hawkes Bay 1 - nil just before half time, no live-up dates so unsure of scorer. AllWhites822011-12-03 14:46:11

This is a good idea. It must be hard for the non Auckland clubs having so many weekends off.
