Went to the Akl Utd v Waitak match last night. Both sides looked pretty average. The standard was far from when they played each other back in January in last season's comp. Waitak won 2-1 but Akl looked the better side, but were let down by some awful decision making from the midfield.

I watched the Waibop-Auckland City youth game at Cambridge (St Peter's) on Sunday.

Waibop twice came from behind to win.

Auckland dominated for the first 20 minutes, and I must admit I thought they looked way better during that time. Troy Phoa put them 1-0 up with a tap-in after Maro Bonsu flummoxed the defence on the left flank and hit the byline (I'll leave the Waibop fullback's name out of it because I think he's a good kid who doesn't need ropey publicity).

Dylan Bull levelled for Waibop after about 30 minutes, when he monstered a defender, and ran through to apply a super finish from the edge of the area. A top bit of forward play, though the bloke beside me said the lad was going back to Sacred Heart to be a 9th former or something next year... pity, be good to see how he went out in the real world.

Bonsu, whose parents are of Kosovon origins (he came here when he was two) got the second himself after another Auckland foray down the left. Bonsu is a Wynrs product, I am told, plays for Central. Was dangerous.

But Waibop levelled through Scott Hilliar, who scored a rare header from a corner. But for the fact he is a Melville lad I would have said it hit the back of his head.

And then Reid Drake scored a pen after somebody - possibly sub Matt Nixon, son of Paul - was brought down in the box.

Nice to see Michael Mayne - former Waikato lad who at one stage was NZ U20 captain - coaching Auckland City youth.

Waibop have now won their first two games, and face Waitakere on Saturday (away), so can feel well pleased. Waibop have a few good kids, particularly at the junior end. Admittedly there is also one lad who started who has to be a clerical error for me - but as long as they are winning, well, that's the whole point, isn't it?

Well done to coach Paul Drake, who was the chap who took over at Ngaruawahia when Rodi Rojas was sacked.

For those who followed Melville northern league over the winter, Hilliar and Liam Hayes (son of Dave) started. Dan Goodwin not selected, Luke Searle coming back from shin splints injury, Paul Clout (winner of Melville young player of the year) was at a trial at West Ham United, Bradley Rea - making huge progress - was away somewhere. GK Ryan Watson recovering from injury

Notable for Auckland was Ross McPhie, while I'd also put a tick next to Oscar Ramsay for some reason.

Super day at St Peter's School, with the women's Waibop v Central match played as a curtainriaser.

Well done to Waibop with a programme with the squads for both teams and sundry detail. (The Auckland numbers were all up the creek, but that's supplied info that the home crew can't do anything about.)

Maro Bonsu is most definitely NOT from Kosovo!!!!

He played for Cook Islands at last OFC U17 qualifiers

And im sure your happy to see Mayne coaching not sure ACFC will share your enthusiasm he's taking a team that hadnt lost in nearly 3 seasons to the shambles they have been in the 1st 2 games of season

Must try harder

Yes, apologies, my mistake.

Looking at my programme again it was indeed Ermal Fusha who made both goals crossing from the right.

(The numbers were all up the duff and I confused them. poor form)

It was a member of his family who confirmed the Kosovo link.

I watched Auckland City V Southern United

I was surprised how good Southerns Defence was!

Auckland City cracked under the pressure from the two front men of the south islanders...

To be fair Auckland did look dangerous on the flanks with Konusi cutting in but southern two centre backs covered well.

Players that stood out to me:

Auckland City:

Oscar Ramsey

Tom Konusi

Stewart McKay(C)

Southern United:

Lewis Jackson

Matt Kelly

Tyrrell Barringer-Tahiri (C)

Anyone know much about these Southern Players???

Might be opening up a box of snakes here - but I don't know exactly what it is that either I or Ellerslie have done to make you so bitter - I hope it's not an ACFC vs Nix thing as I have attended more live ACFC games than Nix games, and while I have some views on ACFC I also support them as well.  Would be interested if there is an actual reason or if you just don't like short people (don't worry lot's of people don't).
