Just out of curiosity though...

How many ASBP places are filled by import players currently ?

Another key question. Fix this and more spots are open for NZ players, potentially youth ones.

Just looking quickly at the local game from Saturday I'd say not heaps. In the TeeDubs I think the left back Colligan is foreign, and Bechar, and Luis Corrales if you're being really picky (but he's been in the country for years).

I don't know the WaiBop players though.

A few good imports is important I think.

I should probably clarify that as NZ resident/citizen/eligible.

Does not seem to be the TW youth team

Question was not about the youth team.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Why ask it in the youth team thread and not The ASB one.   ( OOPS I should keep quite)

Well, the original question was about how many overseas players are taking up positions that YOUTH players could take in ASBP squads instead.

So it was pretty relevant to the topic.

ultimate soccer has to be the most out-of-date looking website I've ever seen in my life. Also struggled to find the table or results on there.

Falcons just lost 2-1 to Manawatu. Title looks to be Waitakere's.

Perhaps but Jeremy's site (check the scoreboard page Luis) is the peerless canon for timely and accurate results across the broad spectrum of nz football. What's happened to falcons of late? Missing Davor?

Don't think the coach has anything to do with it.

Manawatu scored two goals in two minutes during a relatively even first half. Then the second half was all Nelson, chance after chance, but they just couldn't score until injury time.

Going to be a very exciting final two rounds with Waitakere and Nelson tied on 21 points, and both still have to play defending champions Auckland City. Also, TW youth have snuck under the radar and are still an outside chance on 18 points.

Not a case of how the information looks but all about the information, the information and finally the information.

Yep Falcons won 5-1 and win the competition as Auckland City hold Waitakere to a 2 all draw.

Time for a Nelson senior team?

I hope this works out, for the sake of the Nelson football community.

If NZF are happy to grant FC Nelson the licence, are NZF foreshadowing individual clubs competing in other national leagues?

What does Mainland Football think of this? They were against Falcons set up if i recall correctly. Now a single Mainland Federation club could be running a team in the national youth competition. Will other Mainland clubs be similarly interested?

I know we have exceptions already - Weenix (underwritten by a professional club); and SC Wanderers (underwritten by NZF themselves).

Thoughts?

How different would this be from existing close ties between single clubs and most of the ASBP franchises?

You know we belong together...

I think you meant "some" of the ASBP franchises - I don't see that tie-up with Wai-Bop, HBU, Canterbury or Southern.   The Wanderers link is tenuous at best.

Don't piss off old people - the older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent

Close tie-ups (delivery of coaching, training ground, organisation/admin) is one thing. Actually holding the licence is quite another.

So they are not trying to enter the ASB Premiership this year? Thought they would be a great replacement for Wanderers along with Auckland United

Doesn't look likely. Funding a senior team could prove to be an enormous challenge if they can't fund a youth team (although I'm sure it's more attractive for sponsors to support a senior team that has wider exposure).

It's ridiculous. Starts in under a month and I don't think the Wellington teams are anywhere near picked yet.

You wonder what the point is really.

Maybe waiting to confirm the starters. It is true the some teams from last season struggling to come up the the $$$$?

I find it strange they starting so early. Especially with most club's under 19s starting to ramp up their prep for the Napier Tournament, also your club's best players wont be able to play weekend warm ups due to being involved in youth league. Not to mention they'll probably train 3-4 times a week outside of the club's sessions.

Odd timing!

In my opinion the youth league needs to be two full rounds and not just one round. I have personally played in this league and would have loved to have home and away games  to see how as a team we had improved on our first round results. I am guessing it is only a one round competition due to the fact that clubs do not have the money to fork out for flights and other expenses on away trips.

New Zealand Football pay for teams to fly anyway, so there is no cost to teams in flights and accommodation.

Although each team pays an entry fee which covers flights.

saw the first 25 of weenix. Gave up as was usual Wakefield windyness and average game. HB looked to have a few donkeys and didn't do their homework of nix short corners. If the mix captain who i think is Stroud ever makes pro Id be very surprised. Hard to know who he was playing for
